Adelaide's decline

Of course... but won't happen under Nicks as he is not a very smart person.

We won't be successful til we have a coach who has a semblance of smarts.
Well I am glad you agreed on accepting on winning a flag in 2027-8 vs a non Vic side.

You know I posted this. I know it's 5 games in and crows have got 3 wins and 2 losses.

I predicted and wrote on your crows board. I wrote the crows will get 14 wins and 9 losses.

I see away games like Richmond at MCG, eagles at Perth and Kangaroos at Docklands as all winnable away games.

So 10 wins at home and 4 away wins.

Some crows fans predicted top 4 before this cats game. The crows loss to cats proved crows are not top 4 yet

I don't know if this proved we are not top 4. We're coming off a 5-day break and you could tell the Crows were gassed in the end of the 3rd and into the 4th quarter. Just my opinion.

Yes it's harder to beat Vic sides in a GF, but it's possible. West Coast did it in 2018.
Brisbane did it twice early 2000s.

Ultimately your side just needs to be that good.
Is Adelaide capable? We shall see.

Adelaide's 97 and 98 flags were from a different era, and that team whilst full of stars was not a dominant side - just one with amazing spirit, and a genius coach.
Ahem..Brisbane did it 3 times

We sure have gone backwards!

Have no idea why we have given up on last year's game plan of moving the ball quickly for the slow movement approach.

In preseason they got the balls out earlier, but you wouldn't know as skill level has been atrocious. The opposition have marked more of our balls in out forward line than we have with terrible delivery.

The major concern for me was the way the coaches didn't properly match up Stewart in round 2. Then the last game we play an injured Walker who made your captain look like an AA. The long plane flight would have been perfect for a dodgy back.

Midfield mix with both Crouch & Laird is wrong. Laird needs to go back to defence with Milera out for the year. This time last year Rachele was getting Midfield time... & after a decent preseason he is now getting hardly any. VB is clueless!

Our season appears over before it started.
I know I am bumping an old thread.

What's your opinion on the crows midfield in the regular season?

What's your opinion on the crows midfield in the finals?

We didn't manage players during the season as more intent on winning the next game.

Dawson had an ankle injury.
Soligo has looked to be carrying something in the past month.
Rankine missing.

Meanwhile we never gave Edwards a chance nor Draper much of a go.

Probably because they didn't have the depth to manage players.
In terms of being relatively healthy this year, the crows were pretty blessed in that space.
Going to be hard to back that up next year. They really are only a couple gun midfielders away from taking another step though.

I don't believe it's a bad as made out or some innate lack of big game skill. I just think it's a combination of them being a little weaker than ideal at the contest, and a not so healthy list. With the top 6 this season being really even that was gap too big for them to bridge this year.

I expect them to be solid next year.

They had the healthiest list in the finals and without checking would have been close to the healthiest list for the year.

I posted on a crows thread about freos 2015 season about dockers having a good 1st half of the season, struggling in the 2nd half and eventually not making the grand final.

This can also apply to Geelong in 2019 and demons in 2022.

It's damned if you do and damned if you don't.

You shouldn't change a winning side. At the same time you do stay loyal to certain players that got you that far as well.

I mean, Fremantle didn’t and went 0-10 for 2016.
It can change like that.

No idea why Ross changed second half of 2015, when really the football they were playing in the first half was dominance.

It helps to buy or draft to improve the team. Adelaide aren’t that far off

There is a difference between available and healthy. I think they spent a few too many petrol tickets and haven't fired in the finals.

For sure some of it was they were weak in the contest and that was exposed in the first 5 minutes against Hawthorn especially but also throughout the game. I don't know if they win that game even with everyone in but having Dawson off his best and no Rankin really hit them in an area they couldn't afford to be down.

It's possible that Nicks is scared of finals, and it filtered down to the playing group.

(speaking from experience)
He reverted back into his shell & his default of being defensive... when you need to take the best sides on to win finals.

They might be, but they're not going to get 4 games against West Coast and North next year. Or Richmond or Essendon. They'll double up against Port and that'll be it from the 2024 bottom 6.

We should end up effectively getting a similar draw as we played the top teams more than expected with Gold Coast also making finals.

Rachele has been a big out for the last 9 weeks and MM was out for 6 weeks and looked very underdone in the first Final and then there's Rankine.......3 very important "out" in the lead up to Finals especially when Dawson and Soligo didn't look 100% covering the ground.

The draw will be similar, we played 3 double up games against the top 6 this year so should get 2 against the bottom 6-10 and Port Power. Anyway, our rebuild has been more advance than more thought. We should have played Finals last year if Temu Hinkley didn't change the game plan and stuffed our season and probably finish around top 5-6 with a home EF instead of finishing top so definitely overachieved with the development of the current list.

Not saying you didn't have any injuries but that was no different to other teams.

Eg for us: Will Day is out, Lewis is just back after basically a year out, Weddle is in his second game back for us after 6 weeks out, Dear is out, Morrison is out and they are all best 23 players.

they did the full game equivalent of some of those earlier season games where they had a lead, and then just gave up trying to do anything other than defend for the last 10 minutes. the first showdown where port had about 15 inside 50s in a row for example. just dumb as dogshit footy. keep attacking, it worked for 95 minutes, why stop?

I mean the crows were the odd ones out in the top 4.

Crows didn't play one final between 2018 to 2024.

Cats, magpies and lions all played more finals than crows did from 2018 to 2024.

Dockers got into bad form and Injuries. Then there was that famous Matt Taberner thread.....
