The Brisbane Lions AFC today began a comprehensive search to find a new Chief Executive Officer through leading Queensland recruitment agency Davidson Recruitment.

Lions Chairman Angus Johnson said the appointment of a new CEO would complete an active off-field recruitment period for the Club.

"There have been a number of exciting changes to our Board, Administration and Football Department throughout the off-season, but the appointment of a high quality Chief Executive is most critical," Mr Johnson said.

I guess this means that head-hunting wasn't successful.

Also interesting to note that Serafini's departure also seems to have spelled a parting of ways with Slade.

Ben Buckley – might he be a possible target if after the non-2022 get?
Buckley left a GM role with the AFL to take up the CEO role with Football Federation Australia in Nov 2006 – IMO he’d be good get if the salary was on par with what Bowers was receiving.

I think he'd be out of reach even for the AFL now. He's had experience in the World Game. He's opportunities and value although reduced as a result of the unsuccessful bid is still significant elsewhere. He's had experience in an industry where he can go to any part of the world and earn far more than any sporting organisation can pay in Australia. Also he's had grounding under Lowe, so that alone would be a ticket to anything. Can you imagine he's value if Australia was successful?

Media officer Sam Lord is moving back home to Melbourne to work at the Lions Vic office.

Considering his job mainly revolves around dealing with the media, Sam had a hell of a lot of time for us everyday fans too. Great bloke. Will be missed up here.

Matthews rejects Lions Board position, CEO role to be finalised today...?

Matthews revealed last night he had been approached last December by new club president Angus Johnson to become a director of the restructured Lions board but had knocked back the offer, believing the move would have come too soon after ending his coaching era at the Gabba.

Acting CEO Steve Wright, one of at least two candidates who will be considered for the full-time job by the Lions' board today and a favourite for the position...

Brisbane's acting chief executive Steve Wright continued the club's pay-out negotiations with Brendan Fevola's management yesterday despite the fact he will not take over as the Lions' chief executive. It is understood that Wright had not officially applied for the position but had indicated he would consider stepping in should a suitable candidate not emerge.
Instead the Brisbane board yesterday endorsed the club's new chief executive with the decision to be ratified as early as today. Michael Bowers' replacement is believed to have come from outside the AFL industry.

Will withhold judgement but geez I liked tge idea of Wright staying on full time.

I just hope they haven't been at all put off of Wright by Hammo's sketchy article (yeah, I know...that doesn't narrow it down much...).

THE Brisbane Lions' vision to restore their status as an AFL powerhouse has narrowed in on former premier Peter Beattie, who has been identified as a potential high-profile recruit to the club's board.

Beattie would be a phenomenal asset on the board. Especially when we need to lobby government for funding for our new facility.

The guy is exceptionally well regarded and a lot of people owe him favours.
