The old chestnut is coming directly from within this time.
Don Cal is stepping his profile up this year.
Clearly has eyes on Jackets' role, so trying to undermine him is no surprise.

Long way to go yet though son
We are all still worshipping him for turning Crameri into Zach Merrett.

Monfries to Port - we took less in a trade so as to not impact Port's free agency compensation.

.

Lol

Essendon did that trade because if port took him as a free agent you wouldn't have gotten any pic for monfries as you brought someone in that year.

You've painted it like you did us a favour.

fairly sure it was the other way around.
Pearce to Freo netted you a second rounder.
If Monfries had been a free agent it would have slid.

We brought Goddard in, but lost no one to FA that year, so we wouldn't have stood to lose anything.....

we did you a favour.

Now I can't remember where this was from (BigFooty, reddit, news site) but does anyone remember there being some number crunching done on the number of trades each team had completed over a certain period? It showed Essendon as having made the least amount of trades of all clubs.

If anyone knows what I'm talking about and knows where it is, please share. Rather than the qualitative stuff already provided, quantitative data may add to this discussion and help limit the purely personal opinion based comments.

Keep in mind that it may have changed since the original data was sourced.

Pearce to Freo and Chaplin to Richmond netted you 2nd round picks. We let you have a good small forward for a pick in the 50's

It's overblown but we Essendon supporters bite enough to keep it in the papers. I don't think we've been in a good position to acquire talent for a long time, either by being in an unattractive on field or off field position. Also haven't had a lot of mid first round picks that hold a lot of value but are also expendable.

Stringer will be a good litmus test, to see how true the idea is.

Lol.

If you took him as a free agent you wouldn't have got your compo picks.

You've rewritten history. Moron.

Nothing to do with coaching, development, tactics, luck then?

All recruitment?

The man who provides the players.

If Essendon are happy with his record, i heartily encourage them to continue the stability.

What in the actual ****...

You didn't do us a favour

Think about it.

You brought in Goddard as a free agent

Hence you would have received no compo for monfries

.....

It was take a trade for him or get nothing. You got a 3rd rounder. Was it unders for monfries. Sure. Was it Essendon looking after port? No of course not.

Jesus. Some posters here question dodoro and you guys jump at me for simply pointing out a trade went both ways. Chill out.

I remember Freo trying to trade for Kepler Bradley in 2007, but Essendon were asking too much.

"It was reported the Bombers were seeking a late first-round selection for Bradley, an asking price beyond their wildest dreams.

They will deal Bradley in exchange for the Kangaroos' second-round selection, No. 32, or Fremantle's second-round selection, No. 24. A third-round selection is more likely."

"FREMANTLE: Has spoken to the Bombers about Bradley, but the Dockers remain adamant they want to keep their first and second-round picks (Nos. 7 and 24)."

The high asking price meant a trade was never done. A few days later Essendon delisted Bradley. Freo ended up picking him up in the national draft with pick 69.

Think about it.
How about you think about it.

You take Monfries as a free agent you get no compo picks. We accept a throw away, unders price for Monfries and you get to keep your compo picks.

Or hell keep rewriting history and going herp a derp. Whatever floats your boat, I'm done.
