So i haven't seen any threads regarding this. Maybe this could be the go to thread.

But anyway. Tomorrow i am attending a 1st birthday of a daughter of some close friends. I'm guessing bringing a present along is probably a good idea.

The problem being is that i'm 25 and single and not a clue in the world what to get. Anyone got any suggestions? Do you buy practical stuff or a toy or something?

Go to baby toys r us... and if you look at the toy section they actually say on the label... this item is for 0-3 months.... 6-12 months etc

it is quite straight forward...

clothes are tricky cause you need to know the sizes..... 000 00 0 etc

good luck

Can't go wrong with soft toys!

If it's the child of a close friend, I usually buy a classic children's book like The History of Little Goody Two Shoes or The Tales of Mother Goose. You can get really nice gilt hardback copies with original illustrations, and it's something that the child can keep their whole lives and read to their own children when they grow up.

For generic babies that I don't really know, I tend to get them clothes - I just ring the mother and check the size beforehand. Kids grow so quickly at that age that parents are constantly looking for stuff for them to wear. I tend to shy away from toys since all babies seem to have about 10,000.

A bottle of port to be put aside for their 21st birthday is also a traditional gift for babies, although more usually it's given at christenings.
