I'm thinking no upgrade for Charlie unless someone else is on the chopping block. We likely won't need to with Otten on the sidelines all next year. Charlie takes his spot on the main list. Upgrade him next year.

Doesn't he have to be upgraded because of the extension he signed?

It's very simple ... Our recruiting team could guess 14 of the top 15 picks.. I assure you.. It's only once you get in the twenties it gets harder to predict ...
If we are tossing up between 3 blokes at pick 10 to fill needs knowing that at least two of them will be there at 14 it is a bloody no brainier .. That was a great move by the club..
We filled two needs today by dropping a few spots with our first and second and improving a few other picks.. It was a smart day in the office by Noble...
Unless we were willing to part with good players , good picks or big money star players do not just come to Adelaide... Very frustrating to feel the need to defend the great work Noble did to so called Crow supporters ..

If the Pies dont land Danger, they will spend the dollars on Cameron. Im not sure we can afford to secure Cameron and keep Danger, Tex and Slaone all of next year. Dont even get me started with Aish, would cost us easily around $500 - $600k.

I think a problem we will have is that both Cameron and Aish will have large years next year...not helping our cause.

Ok some brief thoughts;

First and foremost very happy with the acquisition of Luke Lowden. Forget the 1 game in 6 years. He is 23 and just about grown into a body that's a physical beast - 204cm and 102kg. That development does not happen overnight and happy it's been happening in Hawthorn's nursery. He's now coming into his peak age in terms of physicality.

He is more than just a ruck, he plays as a genuine forward to and is pretty consistent in his goal kicking. No surprise he kicked 3 in his only game and recently slotted 4 in the VFL semi final. He is a legitimate forward threat and spends as much time as KPF as he does in ruck.

He definitely improves our list - no question.

Not nearly as excited about Cheney. But we have him and so we get behind him (knives at the ready).

I don't think they play in the full team without Pods full stop. Walshy in his AFC presser today was fairly clear that Lowden has talent but will not be first 22 in Rd 1 2015. Of course, a lot can change until then, but I understood that to mean that Lowden has been informed he'll not be a certain starter and he'll have to work his arse off to get a gig.

Mind you that sort of tough love didn't work with Gus.

Very different players though. While we might not end up doing it, Lowden's athleticism allows for the possibility to exist that he could play in the same side as Jacobs. This was never going to be the case with Graham.

What will hurt the most, is that all day every day you would take Cameron over Aish if you had to pick.

The pressure put on JJ. Lowden can play forward as well. Competition for spots is healthy and one of the best ways to have improvement within a team. JJ had a good year, but we can all see that he could be better. With Lowden around he has to improve his consistency otherwise his spot will go to Lowden.

A 1 game player - who couldn't get a game over the past 3 years is going to put pressure on a 40+ goal forward? Not in 2015.

Hartigan is a KPD and it's him and Talia in the key posts. Thompson and Shaw are taller and closer to KPD without the bulk needed. Talia is an elite talent. Hartigan shows promise, just needs to be played and backed in. I see Cheney as pushing Henderson out (thank you!) and also allowing Smith to be released to the midfield. So where is the loss there? In fact putting Smith into the midfield is a gain wouldn't you think?

To Smith - nope, I dont want him in the midfield. He was huge for us off the half back flank and made the AA squad as a result. We have Matt Crouch who can't get a game in the midfield and you want to move Smith to midfield (keeping out Crouch or Lyons) in order to squeeze in Cheney?

We dont have the luxury of spending big dollars on at best B+ grade players, with the trio coming out of contract plus with Aish and Cameron looming as potentials next year.

A team is as good as a coach can get out of them and put the proper structure in place. You telling me that if Sando was coaching Hawthorn, Geelong or Sydney that they would have finished in the same places? Highly doubt that.

Its no coincidence that those players you mentioned all had good - very good seasons in 2013 yet we finished 10th. We didnt even contend for a finals spot - let alone a flag. So you think a depth player like Spangher would magically vault us into the top 4. F** no.

So obviously this 'elite' talent is not elite enough to even get us to the top 8.

Don't disagree with that at all, but there is also the fact that the two guys doing the trading are managing different lists with different needs. It's possible that the guy likely to go at 10 is of more importance to Geelong than he would have been to us. Wells track record speaks for itself though.

The suggestion that they're perhaps after a WA lad that either West Coast or Freo are into is an interesting one though, so I guess we'll see how it pans out come draft time.

The big thing is that Sheed is a perth boy. They knew they wanted him. They knew North had a father son. That Collingwood wouldnt take him at 6 nor 10. They took a small risk and got a big gain (#31). It was shrewd drafting. Very smart.

We are just losing 4 spots to regain what we 'lost' when acquiring players that arent best 22. Not shrewd. Stupid knee jerk reaction.

Cheney is better than LT who played vs North.

Well obviously it is, and obviously for a team like Geelong who don't have as many holes in their 22 or depth as we do. They can afford to give up that 2nd rounder to move up 4 spots, but that extra player could be very handy for us.

Cheney will NOT replace Hartigan. Hartigan is 194 cm, Cheney is 187cm. One is a third tall, the other is a KPD. Thompson and Shaw are 194 and 193 as well. Stop putting Cheney up against them. He is NOT a KPD in the sense that you are pushing. He is a 3rd tall defender who can play on the smaller mid-size forwards ala Henderson and Smith.

Smith would not be replacing Bob or Lyons or Grigg. He would replace Martin et al who play forward and wing. He could even push out Mackay which would please quite a number of supporters around here.

So you know what is going to happen in 2015, please tell us all. Did you know that Smith was going to end up AA? Did you know that Jaensch was going to have a consistent season? Did you know that JJ was going to kick 40+ goals? If anyone said those things at the start of this year most of us would have laughed, some might have thought it could be possible (JJ), the Jaensch one would have been ridiculed and Smith we would have said highly unlikely but it would be nice.

There are no guarantees for Giles, it's all about probability, and of the clubs that were interested in him, probability states that his chances of getting game time at Essendon, are higher than they are at Adelaide.
