I heard this on 5aa today from Hamish Arthur. Apparently Bob Campbell said that there will be a board meeting next week and one of the agenda's will be whether or not to offer retiring AFL CEO Wayne Jackson a place on AFC Board. Personally I think he would be good for us if he accepts.

Thoughts??????

Why not??? He previously has been a leader in industry and then had the responsibility of running the AFL.

They don't come much better credentialled than that!!

I for one would love to see Jacko on the AFC board....he still has a passion for footy, and his knowledge of the inner workings of the AFL would be invaluable.

Cheers,

Kasey

He did say that he wanted to remain involved in footy. He will move back to SA once he is done in AFL. I think it would be great if we could get him on our board.

This guy is becoming an embarassment.

Good call. I don't like seeing Cambell singing the song after the game. Players, coaches, footy dept staff - the song is for them, they make the wins happen. The admin guys should step back and let them have their moment.

Jerome

Yes, Wayne Jackson for me! Campbell seems sort of ... wishywashy. I was disappointed when he chose to blame KG and Cornsey for discouraging people to go to the Wizard Cup games.

BTW, I agree with Jerome about admin. people staying out of the song - even though I think Lleyton's great, I thought it was inappropriate for him to be singing with the players after Sunday's game.

Didn't see that. I flicked straight over to Freo v North. And I agree, the song should be for players and coaches only, no gloryhunters please.

Another slap in the face for Crows Members

Democracy?? I think not.
Jars, back to the rumour - do you think Wayne Jackson would be a good addition to the Crows' Board? Also, as much as I would like a "normal supporter" on the board, is it a big deal considering we have one of the best run clubs?

Yes he would.

I have never said a "normal supporter" should be on the board

The members should be credited with the intelligence to elect their own board members.

Bill Sanders was appionted as the memers rep with only two members approving it.

I have no doubt he would have won any election, but the point is that there should have been an election.

If Saddam does a good job running Iraq, is it therefore OK that he is a dictator??

I will be very interested to see how they will find space for Jackson. Someone will have to resign I would have thought.

I agree that the process for the members' representative was suspect & there is an issue there. I guess all I am saying is that is it a big deal considering AFC is well run & his appointment was a good one?

Who says leading it up to people to make democratic appointments is any better - US voters put someone in power who is has been jailed 3 times, murders the English language, is incapable of reading his own briefing papers & can't put a sentence together. ie. I'm not too fussed on how people get into power (ie. via democratic vote or whatever), as long as they are compentent in their job.

I agree Kane. AFC is a very well run club and if anything, that could be weakened by the average punter meddling with the running of the club. The SANFL aren't going to allow their golden goose to be run any other way.

Competency is the key.

Wayne Jackson has greater credentials than average and would only enrich the leadership group.

Kane and Macca

you speak of competency. I agree completely that the board does a good job.

But what about if they begin not to do a good job?

What if they had agree for instance to move the Crows to the Parde?

AS we can't elect board members we are stuffed and without a voice.

On the larger scale you sell democracy very short in my opinion. Its an essential part of freedom.

You do have a point Jars in respect of the members.

However, a democratic vote doesn't necessarily guarantee the right man for the job when you look at the history of failures at that level in both the SANFL, VFL and AFL.

I think the balance to your concerns is the checks and measures that the SANFL has on the AFC.
