I have been racking my brain trying to work out something similar for AFL 2007 on PS2.

Unfortunately all the player data files seems to be stored in .DAT files which somehow need to be extracted and I'm stuck there.
 
Just a couple of Questions:
1. Is there anyway to edit the controls?
2. How to you edit the teams? I can get to the spreadsheet, then what do i do next? Sorry if it's been answered in the thread, couldn't see one.

Considering the player editor I take it you want to edit opposition teams too? Just curious.

Me and my friends have regular 4 player sessions and the problem with the player editor is it doesn't let you save the changes you make for a single match.

You can save changes in career/season mode but that mode doesn't allow players to versus each other; you can only play against the CPU. Another problem with the player editor in AFL 2007 is you can't edit stats.

For example: Scott Pendlebury is useless in the game because his overall rating is something like "67". In order to fix this I have to edit a player like Brodie Holland who has better stats and make him Pendlebury in order to have a useful player.

Doing this every time we want to play a game is extremely time consuming so I have been looking at ways to edit the .DAT files. I have some theories of how to do it, I just need the spare time. Too busy with uni assignments and exams at the moment... sigh.
 
We've now done the most part of:

Collingwood
West Coast
Fremantle
Hawthorn

However, I'd really like to edit AI, if we can find a settings file that'd be great

Yeah always wanted to have a proper four player arrangement with mates, I can imagine how all this would piss you off no end. In some of the old AFL games they used to let you have as many teams as you wanted human controlled in a season, you could play for whoever you wanted each game in the fixture, 3 against 1, 4 against the PC, it was a free for all, and it was awesome. Why for a second they would even dream of not including this feature in 2007 is beyond me, it would require bugger all effort as it's just tweaking of existing functionality. Grrr. Good luck!

For a future AFL title they really, really need to include the ability to edit stats and teams independantly (or in addition to ) saved seasons and careers for the specific reason you mention. Why hasn't anyone done this!!!

Tried to, but I couldn't edit them. I could only open them.

They are 3d models and looks like all the textures are in those files, but when I opened them, there was an error opening the textures.
