erm i dont think u get what i mean... i mean: ok i wil go tomy ps2 and test this out RIGHT NOW. Ok i am starting an eagles game with chad fletcher as the ruck-man. ok hes in the ruck and the other guys way bigger than him. i swap him with cox (so cox is now in ruck) and OMG dean coz is now chad fletcher size. his profile still reads 204cm but he looks and plays like he was 5'9. end test

Yeah, this happens in the PC version too!
There seem to be real issues in the game whenever you move players around - from either the bench or around on the ground. It's been mentioned earlier, but how damned frustrating is it when you swap a defender (or if a defender gets injured and you have to make a change) and the new player stands about 50 metres off the their opponent, watching them take mark after mark after mark!

Another glitch I've discovered recently: Small players don't only win out in the ruck against taller players.
E.g. Swans vs Hawks: B.Hall (CHF) vs C.Bateman (CHB). Bateman takes, like 15 contested marks!!! WTF:confused:

And (sorry to sound like a broken record) it drives me insane when you have a player with the ball, 15-20 metres in the clear and no matter how many times you mash the keyboard, he just does not respond what-so-ever and ends up getting run down and gives away a free kick!!! Or you have 3 or 4 players in space and the ball is kicked to them and they either let the ball go past them without responding or they punch it when you have firmly had your finger on the "Mark" button! F**king frustrating, to say the least!

Last whinge (for the moment):
There needs to be a "Snap" button and/or a "Shoot" button, ala AFL PE, '04, '03, etc. The amount of times a player is free in space in side the 50 metre arc and he 1) fails to make the distance, 2) kicks it out on the full or 3) kicks backwards/side-ways to a contest, is just a joke. Not to mention the fact that no player can kick the ball 50 metres+ (unless he's got a 20-30 kph wind at his back)!!!

No wonder I've seen so many copies of AFL 2005 in pawn shops!:p

Re: Fixing up the AFL games

Firstly, will there be more animations for the ruck etc and goalkicking and tackling etc, that bores me to death, same ruck contest and its so dumb you don't see who wins it untill the ball flys perfectly mind you to ytour player.

Also sound needs to be overhauled, and coliision detection, sometimes the ball boucnes then you hear a sound, also button responsiveness.

Lastly, what the hell is shanefos talking about? No players can kick 50+?

In the PC version it is basically impossible to kick a goal from outside the 50metre arc - unless it bounces 5 or 6 times first. Someone tells me they've done it (kicked a goal from outside the 50metre arc), send me screen shots and I might believe you, otherwise I'd say "What game have you been playing?!"
During general play it seems to be a random computer selection where and how far you kick the ball, no matter whether you try for a chip-kick, pass or kick to space.

Yes in every other sport game theres many different animations for everything that happens, the rucks are EXACTLY the same, celebrations.. what celebrations? they run back and wave their hands in the air a bit, no team mates congratulate the goal kicker! agree about the sound and button responsiveness, you need to be able to get away a quick kick and handball even if it doesnt go far.
if you hold the kick button as long as possible it still goes nowhere, torp does nothing, for our teams Power21... Dew and Roo should be able to goal it from 60+ let alone just 50!!

Yeah my bad, for some reason i was thinking he meant real life. I agree you can't kick 50+ in the game which is quite ridiculous really.

As i have said before, this game has a LONG way to go to even be a respectable, playable game. IR guru's or whoever makes this game are just proven slack, and completly incompetent game developers and will remain so untill they release a half decent game.

Re: Fixing up the AFL games

Hey Hawk!

Got a few things maybe you could find useful.

http://www.stratagemsports.com.au/

That is a coaching sim game for PC called Total Aussie Rules (or TAR for short). The trial is free to download ;). Its AFL. Now I recommend you download and paly the game because it has many things you may want to put in your game. The most important of which is the things it has after season. On TAR, you have the option of re-negotiating with players about their retirement. If you choose to negotiate with them, you are given several options. You must suggest a reason why they should not retire. Things like "We feel you are still needed at the club because young players look up to you" or "We feel you still have a strong presence on-field and you still play well" or even "We will double your salary". I'm not saying put contract negotiations into the game and money, salaries etc. like TAR does. That would make it too complicated. Also, there are awards like Rising Star and a Brownlow Count round-by-round with leaderboards just like AFL. I hope you can experience those aspects of TAR and implicate it into your next AFL game.

Cheers

matera_goal

P.S Download the trial ;) its free

P.P.S In AFL 2006, training and create-a-player would add to the game a hell of a lot and create-a-player would give it MASSIVE longevity - your list would never be outdated ;)

EDIT: There are also many good features that I think would improve your game - but not making it a franchise/coach thing.

EDIT #2: If you do decide to take a leaf out of TAR's book, PLEASE don't put money, salaries and contracts into the game. Also, ing TAR where you hire your staff - it's a money thing so PLEASE don't put those things in. Thanx man

EDIT #3 (too many lol): One of the thing I think you should put in is the tactics they have. In TAR there's tactics like "Direct-Wide " or "Switch Play-Direct (from full back)" or "Hold-Quick (ball movement)" Flood defence and designated full-back kickers. Also, newspaper reports (like in TAR) would be great - Friday Papers with things like tipster's tips and the matches listed. Monday pepers with reslts and headlines (like "Port smash Blues") Tanx again (and i hope you read this far lol)

EDIT #4 (christ almighty): There is reserves competition (that was a glaring omission from afl 2005). also, there was player Form (you know good or bad form) and after each match it would rate the players out of 10 on their performance. it would show the reserves results and the player rating so you could see who is pushing for a spot in your lineup and who needs a week in the reserves. THANKS FOR READING THIS FAR MAN

Re: Fixing up the AFL games

im sorry but i lost interest when i saw that you werent going to put a create player option in.

this decision is baffling at best.

Yeah, form and a reserves comp would be great additions to the game. Basically, you've got no reason not to pick that players that have the best stats all the time, which gets very boring. If there was form involved, then you'd actually have to think about who to play. It's not rare to see a great AFL player are dropped from a side for a fringe player who has been getting 40 touches each week in the VFL. This adds a huge amount of interest to the real match, so why not add it into the video game as well?

scrap the AFL Live set up and just make a Football Manager 2006 AFL version.

problem solved, and i assume it would cost less as you dont have to pay for commentary, player models etc. :thumbsu:

Bingo......I'll second that. :thumbsu:

FM2006 would be a great model to base an AFL game on.

Re: Fixing up the AFL games

FORM and RESERVES COMPETITON from TAR would really help. after every match on TAR it has ratings out of 10 for every player. there is a list of ratings for the seniors and rating for reserves so you know whos pushing for a spot. it shouldnt be "best stats get in" coz that menas some players NEVER EVER get a game and they dont improve coz theres no reserves

Re: Fixing up the AFL games

Gameplay should be the main concern.

Create a player, reserves teams, drafts etc. all mean nothing if the game is not fun to play.

making a footy equivalent of FM is not as easy as you think

Exactly.

The FM/CM games were 10 years old before it even started to get as in depth as it is now, and that's with bigger companies pushing hard for it to be great.

Any FM type AFL would be a major dissapointment.

Re: Fixing up the AFL games

i think that when you take a shot at goal, how your player kicks off the spot sucks its unrealistic. also when u take a shot ur max kick distance is about 30 metres. WTF. you should be able to kick at least 45 metres on set shot and u make a power bar for it ;) when uve aimed and set ur power bar, there should be a cutscene showing the player taking a runup for goals and kicking and if its a point they look disappointed if its goal the run around high fives

Re: Fixing up the AFL games

yeah this has been said before but hopefully it does happen
when you do get a goal, the player just jogs back to his spot and puts his hand in the air, no celebrations or anything! all other sport games cut to a special celebration screen
