Well saidBeen to the mcg plenty of times.
Yes it has history - but its been completely rebuilt in every respect from the mcg it was - and its not a particularly great design any more - its badly dated. When i was coming once a year for footy trips compared to subi it was light years ahead - but stadia design has come a long way.
Every single seat at optus is great to watch football.
You can sit at the very top of the nosebleeds and you have a great view of the game.
ive been to a gf (hawks v geelong) at the g and the seats were rubbish - couldnt see much - too far from the action.
modern stadium design involves more vertical stacking of seats so the furthest away seats are much much closer that the older style stadia.
Optus didn't win the prix d’ or for pretty lights.
It won it for most beautiful stadium in the world.
its a gloriously well designed stadium thats a pleasure to watch footy at. You can get a beer or a feed or a piss and miss none of the game as there are strategically placed tvs everywhere - outside of breaks it takes seconds to reach the bar, foodery or pissoir. About 15 seconds from my seat. It also takes seconds to be served and on your way.
Given the choice of watching footy at the mcg or optus - id watch it at optus any day of the week and twice on sundays. The commentators arent just raving in for shits and giggles - its a superb stadium.
at some stage they will knock down all the mcg stands one by one and remodel them to be the same modern design of optus or beyond. It will be grand - i cant wait to go there for a carlton collingwood game with close on 100k people. In a modern well designed stadium. The current mcg is really showing its age.
