The VFL media and commentary in full effect last night. Geelong were never losing that game, but that didn't stop them embarrassing themselves over the fear of potentially losing a 2nd VIC prelim final. Downright pathetic, especially Jon Ralph... a nobody who thinks he can say that shit during half time.

I can think of plenty of others that embarrassed themselves last night

disadvantaged in that we're far below the afl mean. 1 good father/son in 20 years is a massive disadvantage.

Regarding Mac Andrew, yes he does.. Mac Andrew plays and we win in 2022. With 2 number 1 picks and a Fletcher, it's an easy win in 2023. So yeah, everything stacks up and it shows you just how much f/s and nga dictates success. No surprise to see Collingwood and Geelong in the mix of the flag this year. They've just got to scrap the rules.

I dont think for memory Richmond had any (or very few) father-sons play during their dynasty period and that yielded 3 Premierships in 4 years including back-to-back (most recent team to win consecutive Premierships).

Teams can be successful without father-son rule.

I don’t think there’s a coach in the league who shifts his players around in season and in games more than Scott and he does it brilliantly.
He's brilliant. Used to cop a lot of flak but his record speaks for itself these days. Can't remember many coaches that have been so effective making major structural changes on the fly mid-gane.

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think Rayner did anything wrong.

I don’t think he took a dive at all on the first free. O’Connor bumps him, and as he goes to step forward their feet get tangled and he goes down. You’ll notice that O’Connor actually stumbles a little too. The contact was soft no doubt, and shouldn’t have been a free, but I can also understand how an umpire who is trying to simultaneously monitor 6 different matchups across 50m might get that wrong. IMO, that’s just a bit of luck and will happen sometimes, when you consider how many instances a tagger gets away with that SHOULD be a free in any given game, it’s probably a little bit of swings and roundabouts.

The second one should not have been paid, but that’s on the umpire. When Guthrie comes in, Rayner decided instead of being faux tough guy he’d exaggerate the contact and try and milk a free, which I don’t have an issue with. Guthrie did still hit him and I think should have known that Rayner was trying to suck him in to a free.

In the second half Rayner went heel and I thought that was hilarious.

Nah, Rayner went down first then O'Connor tangled legs, would be no tangle if Rayner stayed on his feet...

League concedes umpiring error in fiery Cats-Lions clash

Cats small forward Tyson Stengle was about to have a shot to put his side 33 points ahead on Friday night, before the ball was taken down the other end of the MCG after Geelong's Mark O'Connor was penalised for shoving Rayner in the back in the Lions' goal-square.

Guthrie then ran in to remonstrate with Rayner after the Brisbane premiership winner had reduced the margin to 21 points, leading the umpire to pay another free kick immediately.

Instead of being more than five goals ahead, Geelong led by just 15 points at the main break to give the Lions some belief.

On Saturday, the AFL said while O'Connor made contact with Rayner with his elbow/arm, it was below the level of force required to justify a free kick.

The vision on First Crack last night was damning.

Raynor approached the field umpire to highlight to him the treatment he was apparently receiving (I didn't think players were allowed to talk to umpires in that manner), and the nuffy umpire spent the next two minutes focussing his attention on the Raynor/O'Connor's match up. The first hint of contact, and Raynor goes down, knowing he had the attention of the umpire he had sucked in.

If the Weitering bank scam could ever be reenacted on a football field, this was it. I hope that umpire does not feel inclined to respond to any emails from Nigerian princes.

Saw that too, dare I say this was a premeditated flop.

Does anyone actually think brisbane played that bad?? It felt more a case of geelong playing some seriously elite footy and just running them off their feet using the width and open space of the MCG. We were very very good and applied probably the best pressure I have seen a team apply all year.

Brisbane will easily beat GCS and I wouldn’t be shocked if they knock over collingwood. They are a very good side.

Did you watch any other games over the weekend?
