Wakelin and gehrig where holding each other but wakelin was looking backwards and gehrig was look to where the ball was coming from. tough call but technically probably the right decision. I

If you watch that replay....Gehrig is leaning to his left and holding Wakelin and Wakelin is leaning to his right and holding Gehrig. Gehrig tries to use Wakelin's momentum and push him across his body inturn turning Wakelin around....that's why he lost sight of the ball.

Was clearly play-on.

Hands in the back in the first quarter to Leon (side push), Didak (looked like side at game) and I can't remember who else....maybe Cloke, cost us three shots on goal.

Very dubious decisions.

If they are not sure, don't guess.

I am not arguing that we didnt get a bad run but it happens and our supporters I reckon are just about the worst when it comes to complaining about umpires. We always remember the ones that go against us but never the ones for us. Because it is such a difficult game to umpire I have an expectation that there will be a few games a year that will go against us. Umpires do not deliberately make poor decisions in the same way the travis cloke does not deliverately kick 17.25

I agree that most of those mentioned where not great decisions but very few of them if observed by an unbiased person would be 100% wrong. Thats why our game is so hard to umpire often there is no clear right or wrong and depending on which team you follow you will probably have a different opinion to someone else.

I did not think the Wakelin one was correct, thats not my argument but I can see why the umpire would have called it that way. Within in split second it would have been hard for the ump to see fraser turn him.

with the thomas OOB I doubt the umpire would have called it out unless he thought it was out. As far as I know this is what they are supposed to do. Theres no "only call it out if you are absolutely 100% sure its out" I am pretty sure it is "If you think its out call it out". There is a strong argument to say call it out only if you are 100% certain its out but by doing this we run the risk of having wayne harms type incidents week in week out.

Anyway I am rembling a bit now. I dont want to sound like the umpires advocate because some of them(like spanker) annoy the crap out of me but I really want to get the point accross that a/its alot harder than people think and b/its no use complaing because as long as I have been watching footy umpiring as been an issue with fans and it will never change. As a good coach always says-Once they have made there decision they will not change it(well in most cases)so shut up and get on with it......

Sorry one more thing re the above comment. I am pretty confident they dont guess. they would see it and think yep thats whats happened and blow the wistle. How many times do you watch a game of footy and go "oh thats a free" only to watch the replay and say "ok maybe not" it happens evey game several times when I am watching.

There called mistakes and on Saturday they made too many but everyone has a bad day.

Maybe. I for one rarely post about bad umpiring. But this game was one out of the box and I had to spill my guts. They had a shocker.

There were 3 umpires out there, all having a bad day? And before anyone else says it, yes Chamerlain was the main culprit but the others let him get away with it. Bad umpiring doesn't just mean the number of clearly wrong decisions made - when the umpires are the focus of the game, or significant parts of it, then that's bad umpiring. Even under the current rules, leaving your common sense in the locker is poor.

Chamberlain in particular looked as though he thought the game was all about him. It isn't. Set up an umpires bench and drag them when they go feral.

Absolute Gold!!!! :thumbsu:

How good would it be to have the umpires "runner" go and tap Chamberlain on the shoulder during the game. And the jeers as he sprinted to the bench.....would be classic. The noise would have been deafening.

Will never happen but damn it would be hilarious.
