Nice to see Belconnen being the innovation leaders again. Who else would think of having a pre-season training camp in ... Belconnen. With players staying in their own beds each night and having to front up early each morning. Who needs bonding on a pre-season camp. Truly out of the box thinking. Watch out ACTAFL 2008.

Haha losers. Surely they will do something else to bond the group. Or are they so arrogant they believe they don't need something like this?

Your full of yourself ABH. There have been some good topics discussed regarding AFL canberra's future and just because the discussion doesn't revolve around you, you have to be a w***er.
Don't worry, I'm sure your groupies will have another 'suck up' session soon!

Dear Mr Sensitive - my comment was only directed at Stevie Wonder for saying "if this" and "if that" about Tuggers. Not at those who have made suggestions to assist the league. No-one cares about "what ifs". They are for people who keep making excuses which seem to be a common theme for some of the sooks on this thread. If your not happy with my comments then dont respond to them!! Here is a tip - TOUGHEN UP!!

Well stop the press!! What fantastic innovation...doesnt every club do this during each and every training session throughout the year with the only difference being the time?? Hats off to you guys out North again for leading the way, Im sure the AFL people will be noting this one down for next pre season. Oh and by the way, Qbn Tigers had done this on several occassions during my time but we didnt need to bang the drum over it.

Piss off, Ainslie and the other big clubs have been pinching the best talent from Tuggeranong since the 80's.

It's little hard for a team to have/make money, when they can't achieve success on the field.

If they can't develop a loyal successful team, there is no hope.

Tuggeranong would have been dominating the comp now, if things had gone as predicted in the late 70's/eighties.

They had the best two junior teams in the ACT for many many years.

No Tuggeranong team and no ACTAFL!

And Hawthorn had a shit hot club in the 70's, 80's and early 90's. Look I can make useless comparisons too... So whats your point??
Good club management is the key to building a successful and sustainable club- quite obvious that Tuggeranong were crap on the admin side. Have a look at Queanbeyan, Belconnen, Eastlake and Ainslie- they didn't build strong clubs by just talking that there club is going to become big, they built a strong financial base plus good club administration. No reason Gungahlin couldn't do it over the next decade or so.

What Chaddles says is spot on SW. Belco when they lost the shed etc did what they had to do and got in bed with West Canberra and whoever else and started again.... good management. WC and Tuggers have both lost their clubs, in Tuggers case 20 years ago now and nothing has happened..meanwhile licenced clubs have popped up like mushrooms in the Valley. Not saying licenced clubs are the answer but having one may have stopped Tuggers losing the players you talk about and, where is the strategy for keeping all those juniors, they can't all be going to other clubs.
Its not always totally someone elses fault.

Licenced clubs (and more importantly, poker machines) are the life blood of AFL in Canberra.

The Ainslie $ brought the Roos to Canberra, and that money wasn't made over the bar.

Until the Jets can get its own permanent social club with 50 poker machines at Gungahlin (a tough market with the Lakes dominating, and Gold Creek and the Raiders now well established), they can never hope to compete with the big boys - see Wildcats and Tuggeranong for proof of that.

The Club also needs to be a separate entity to the Football side - you need a business manager running the club, and let the football guys look after the other side. For examples of other clubs going bust not having it split two ways, see ACT Leagues Club Braddon (now part of the Raiders conglomerate) and Royals Rugby in Weston (again, Raiders owned).

Good to see Aaron Bruce do well on Sunday for the Swines. Nearly all the Ressies stood up well which says a bit for the AFL Canberra comp.
They have a few injuries, the Swines.. about time! Might even things up.

I have just heard some shocking news that Mick Carroll has passed away. I would like to pass on my deepest sympathies to the family, friends and the Tuggers FC for their loss. MC was a terrific competitor on the field and a great bloke off the field. Lets hope the TFC can get things going to dedicate 2008 to their reliable former backman.

Well said ABH. Brings things into perspective.

I saw the notice in the paper and wasn't sure if it was the same bloke.
Bloody tough.

Good competitor and often was a lone hand when Tuggers were not strong.Didn't know him off field.

Hang in there Tuggers.

Can confirm the bad news. Everyone at the club is in deep shock, especially those boys who played alongside Micky C. Was a great competitor on the field and an even better person off it. As a young kid coming into the club when he was at his peak he always made an effort to get to know the young guys and I can say that it's been a pleasure knowing him.

Sympathies to his friends and family.

May I also offer my condolences to MC family and friends and all at TFC.
When someone that is held in high esteem leaves us, it is a chance for all and sundry to work harder. Although the circumstances can not be worse, this could be the catalyst the enable you to rise again.
RIP

Big news coming out of the South side. The Creek has advised its players they are combining with Tuggers for 2008. This is not a good sign for the League. Has anyone else heard this. It was mentioned at todays St Kilda / Geelong match.

Does anyone know about any movement in the ACTAFL? Been on the sportingpulse website but that isn't very handy. Any of the major clubs sign any key personel of the off season?

WCFC had a meeting on thursday night to decide the future of the club. Bartley pulled the pin on them last week so they had pretty much zero off field personnel. I don't know what the outcome of the meeting on Thursday was but it wouldn't surprise me if they combined with Tuggeranong. They probably will end up running one senior and two reserve grade sides (to keep numbers even in the twos).

You can't really blame them - 30 players doesn't give you much confidence going into the season. Going into recess is probably their best chance to survive as an entity in the long run.

This really is the worse possible news for the long term maintenance of the league.
6 teams is just not enough.
Thank christ we kept the Swans ressies in, the league would just be a joke if we hadn't.
Suppose this means all draws will have to be redone and re approved by all. Hope they make an announcement one way or the other so we can look professional in some shape.

Agree. Image if Eastlake, Ainslie and in some respects my club - the Magpies had got their way. The Swans would not be in the League. We would be down to five teams. Serious concerns abound about AFL Canberra's viability.

Dislike Qnbo, but they have always supported the Swans being in the League and the Creek surviving.

The merge could be for the best for the League. Instead of two broken clubs (and with all due respect to both Tuggers and Weston Creek, this year, neither side was looking good and long term prospects were terrible), a strong single entity may be able to prevail and be somewhat competitive.

The suggestion below of a Firsts, two reserve sides, 2 CD1's (Murrumbidgee and Tuggeranong) and a CD2's may work.

The question is how many of the older blokes from both clubs who have put their heart and soul into the Wildcats/Cowboys/Hawks etc will have had enough and leave footy altogether?

You would hope that with both clubs being starved of success for many years the "older blokes" would view this as an oportunity to end their careers with the possibility of a few more wins than normal and maybe a last gasp at a finals birth....That would be my take on it and I think I qualify as an "older bloke""

Wow, I briefly worked with Mick Carroll in the mid 90's at DIEA.

Sad to hear.

Was interested to hear on the weekend at a coaching course a run by the NSW/ACT mob that the prospect of a state league is a real possibility, and something that could come to fruition real soon.:thumbsu: I honestly hope that this is the case. This didn't come from a Canberra person but in fact a Sydney based person. Interesting:rolleyes:

Guys, Reminder that North Adelaide are in Super City this Saturday for a trial game against the Tigers commencing at 4.30pm. They are bringing their strongest possible squad of players which contains at least 6 former AFL players. Pity the Tigers wont be at full strength with possibly 10 players missing from last years Grand Final team, but nevertheless it should be an entertaining match.

Sounds like the Tigers are already making excuses for being shown the insides of theirs Rrses!!!:D My tip is the Roosters by over 100 points - and thats if the quarters are only 15 minutes long!!!
It's not all bad though Original... at least the Tigers had the balls to give it a go; Eastlake claimed that they didn't have long enough to prepare! How long do you need to play a half of football with 15 minute quarters??:thumbsd: Very ordinary Bombers!! :(
