Apparently we're after another versatile tall to replace Bock

What like Davis, Talia, McKernan, or even Hendo and Otten drafted in recent years? Plus throw in Tippet, Sellar, Stevens, Rutten etc.

Does this guy have any idea how we've drafted recently and that we're really after a quick mid or possibly a ruckman if a good one is available?

Don't be so surprised. Most people that pay attention to footy would have no idea what our list is like. They would just see "OUT: Nathan Bock", and go, "Whoops! Now they don't have ANYONE capable of playing a defensive role EVER! Not even that guy who won the rookie nomination!". The moral of the story is; I don't like the media.

Didn't think much of that article either.

In order, I'd suggest that our needs are:
1. Inside midfielder
2. Outside midfielder.
3. Small/crumbing forward
4. Ruck (only if Griffin and Moran both depart)

A KPP defender is nowhere to be seen on the list, as we already have an abundance of them from previous drafts. They just haven't had much AFL exposure yet.

Inside Mid before Outside Mid Vader?

I'd go the other way.

Thommo/Sloane/Danger all very good in this area with last two getting better.

Reilly/Doughty/Van Bero/Douglas can all provide decent support.

We need guys who you want on the end of the cain of handballs and delivering forward.

At the moment just Vince/Mackay really fit this category with neither thrilling us this year.....

Agree 100% with that list in that order

Don't discount Henderson as a midfielder ......his basketball background as a point guard, with his lateral vision, ideally suits the in tight confines of midfield play BUT he also has that damaging outside speed

Also can see Mackay with the same vision attributes playing more in the midfield .......maybe having Otten as a tall wingman?

I'd be going

1. outside mid
2. small forward/crumber
3. inside mid
4. Ruckman
I would have thought it would be just as easy to pick up a crumber in the latter stages of the draft as it would be with our second round pick.

With that said:
1st- outside mid
2nd-inside/outside mid
3rd-crumber
4th-ruck or mature age

1. Outside/inside mid with a good kick
2. Inside/outside mid with a good kick
3. Outside/inside mid with a good kick
4. Outside/inside mid with a good kick

Rookie list a ruckman

We draft those guys like we drafted key position players during the naughties.

ie, we wouldn't know what one looked like if he was two inches tall and was named "schnitzel".

Yes, inside before outside.

Right now, we're heavily dependent upon Thompson and Reilly to win our centre clearances. They're supported by Sloane. Dangermouse will join them once he builds his tank. VB & Pizza Boy could possibly be added to this group as well. Vince should be classed as an inside midfielder as well, but this year he was better classified as a spectator.

I don't see Doughty as a midfielder any more, his position is on the HBF.

We've just lost Goodwin & Edwards who were both excellent extractors. If something happens to Thompson we're completely screwed - as we saw in the North Melbourne debacle this year.

In comparison, we're much better served for Outside Midfielders. We have Mackay, Henderson, Armstrong, Jaensch, Martin.

Lets face it, we need midfielders, midfielders and more midfielders. I think that inside mids are a priority, but there's not a lot in it. If we get a slightly built whippet hound with our first selection I certainly won't be complaining.

haha, the article states We'll go after the versatile Smedts and Jacobs (two different types anyway), then proceeds to name half of the first round prosects.

This guy's guessing and should outsouce both to people who know about Adelaide, and people who know about the draft pool.

I'd go as far as putting a Ruckman above another inside mid if Griffin does go. I really like the look of Moran but we can't rely on the guy just yet. I don't want Tippet leaving the forward 50/60 unless we're desperate.

As has been previously said we need someone with Top Class disposal by foot. Even if they need work in other areas their foot skills must be good.

The only way I'd be happy getting someone with less than average foot skills would be if it were Palmer who's a ball magnet capable of gettin 30+ a game. Would mean we could manouvre other players, such as Porps, Danger and maybe even Thommo into others areas of the field.

Having Thommo spend a tad more time in the forward 50 wouldnt be a bad thing. The guy is a pretty reliable set shot.

ADELAIDE has begun ambitious recruiting mission - Target 20.

Armed with half-a-million dollars in salary cap space, Jonathon Griffin and possibly Chris Knights as trade bait, the aggressive Crows have drawn up a hit-list of 20 players they are interested in luring to West Lakes for next year.

These include homegrown stars Matthew Pavlich of Fremantle and Ryan Griffen of the Western Bulldogs, while fellow Croweaters Shannon Hurn (West Coast), Byron Schammer (Fremantle), Will Minson (Western Bulldogs), Lindsay Thomas (North Melbourne) and Sam Jacobs (Carlton) also are understood to be on their recruiting radar.

Looks as though you guys are going to figure heavily in trade week, which is unusal for you. You will get something good for Knights. Would love him at the Blues!

Dangermouse and Pizza Boy? These nicknames aren't catching on Vader. I'll give you credit for persisting though. ;)

I agree though, midfielders and yes, inside midfielders but with a solid outside game too. Of the South Australians, Jared Polec fits the bill. Plus he is a left footer, we don't have enough of these on our list and with Goody going we need a replacement.

It has been well documented that Polec can win the contested footy, clear the stoppage and kick long, a 60-70 metre player. Was BOG for Eagles last week and also wins his fair share of loose football. I think he would compliment our midfield nicely.

If Polec is gone, then his Eagles running mate Brodie Smith will do nicely. His game is reminicent of Ryan Griffen (albeit a slightly inferior version at a comparable age). Good burst of speed, a kicking style similar to that of Griffen. If we get either one of these two I will be quite happy.

Watching AFL Insider last night they were very positive about our future. Noticed our run home against Top 4 sides and that what was holding us back was our older guys, and the inclusion of Bock unsettled our defence.

FWIW I think we need a decent back up Ruck. Maric will have a good year next year. He matched it with Jolly against the Pies and made Gardiner look second rate in the last month. But am unsure about Jimmy (Despite being a fan) and have heard Moran is in trouble physically.

Also need another premier blue chip midfielder.

Our defence is rock solid, is our best area on the park and has been since Craigy took over. We have dealt withe retirements/delisting of Hart, Massie, Bass, Torney in this era. I am sure we can more than cover Bock.
