On AFL website it says Carlton unlikely to take a pick in the mid season draft.
Can't understand why we wouldn't.

"Carlton had appeared unlikely to make a selection, but now has the option of choosing on the night after improved winger Matt Carroll suffered an ACL injury on Saturday evening."

Are you referring to this?

Nṉ
Any chance former Blue Luke Parks gets selected tonight? Played like a headless chook whilst at Carlton, but looks to have matured in the VFL. Was very impressive as an intercept defender against us earlier this season.
Luke suffers from being undersized for a key and not really athletic enough for a modern third tall defender at the highest level. Will be a long term “great” at the second level.

Deserving on output, but doubt he gets through a “process”

Just give me another Josh Deluca

There are options there who could value add to our list. For me a question is, of those who have nominated, who is a 6 month or 18 month contract? I'd certainly see value in someone for a 6 month contract given our current outs...
Unfortunately, this year the published list doesn't indicate which are 6 and which are 18 (pretty sure it did last year). Commentary on the above page says Artemis, Bamert and Annand among the 18-month group.

Give me one of the two below:
  • Kid who projects improvement and might feasibly be taken in early rounds of 2026 preseason draft; or
  • Mature player who fits a need and might contribute early at the level.

Blues are on a hiding to nothing tonight. If we take anybody other than Riley, we will be slammed if Riley becomes a good AFL player. If we take Riley, we will be slammed for not taking whoever else becomes good.

Still, be happy if we have seen enough in his development and support our own aligned program. We need another ruck and lacking a 'project' type tall.

Nobody is predicting we will take him, but with Davies and Wright in charge, we don't know what they are thinking. A 206cm ruckman who can get around the ground and link up ... I wouldn't complain. I won't complain if we don't though.

I don't see why we need to add another developing ruck right now. It's widely know that every year there is a ruck merry-go-round and they are reasonably easy to pick off chasing opportunity.

Unless we see Riley becoming our number 1 ruck within a couple of years I'd much rather us get a Bamert, Toner, NHH, Barnett, or Herbert tonight. Then in a year or two when Pitto retires and a spot opens up we will have lots of options wanting to come and be our number 1 ruck.. That being said, if we do take Riley tonight I wouldn't be mad about it. Just think we would be better served looking elsewhere.

'A VFL forward completed a late medical and interview with the Blues on Monday.

But he's not the only one Carlton are eyeing ahead of tonight's mid-season draft. '

It's Toner in the picture as to who we gave a medical too...

I could see Riley becoming one of the best AFL rucks, but what the hell do I know really? Have to trust the experts.

Yep Toner has done a medical at Carlton.

So, this Toner guy, he'll be better than Zac Bailey yeah?
