Suppose we don't pick Sharp with picks 5 or 6 (Say, we pick Cumming and Taylor for argument sake).

Then Melbourne don't pick Sharp either (perhaps they go for two of Farrow/Nairn/Grlj

Would you pick Sharp or Dovaston with pick 9?
This is a good hypothetical.
It's line-ball.
For me, I'd probably go with Dovaston. Just because i think him pairing up with Kako up fwd would be pretty special for the next decade. But it would be hard to let go of someone like Sharp with his leadership potential.
I wouldn't be disappointed either way but i think i would lean towards Dovaston.

The thing is it’s not gonna be Cumming and Taylor as one of them or both are off the board, you’d pick Dovaston at 13 if Robey gets to our pick.

Melbourne don’t have interest in Grilj and neither do we. So we can rule him out as well.

Sharp will be selected at 9 or 10 unless Robey and Taylor are available and then I don’t know what the club does with Sharp.

Sheehan believes South Australian Dyson Sharp should still be in the conversation as the best young talent alongside Duursma and Duff-Tytler.

“I’ve said consistently that I think there’s three genuine number ones and Dyson Sharp’s in that group,” he said.

“He’s drifted in many people’s views, but not mine.

“I link back to performance in the only level playing field we have, which is our national championships. He dominated the national championships.

“... So he’s in the debate with Cooper Duff-Tytler and, of course, with Willem Duursma.

“So any of those boys have played well enough, have got the potential to open up to be great AFL players as well.

“... That’s exciting for the game to have that competition there to see who wins the mantle of the best player at the moment, from around Australia.”

Sharp could slip as low as Essendon, who currently hold picks No.5 and No.6.

This is from today. Hopefully this settles some of the Sharp doubters in here. Sheehan is an excellent judge of talent.

Whilst I don’t disagree with you, but Sheehan could be describing a player selected at pick 60 as a 4 time Brownlow medalist, 10 time All Australian.
Oh for sure he loves the hyperbole. But he's also saying Sharp is a top 3 prospect which basically means anyone other than Duursma/CDT/Sharp he views as worse (excl academy obvs).

When does the window open for pick trades? Is it this afternoon sometime or does it open as soon as the picks start happening?

Think we should tak 5,6,9 and Sweid, hope HEA is RookieB then save a spot for Cal Ah Chee in the pre-season draft

I'd lean towards Dovaston too, but it's a tough one.

Who do we pick up at 9 if the Dees have taken Dovaston??
Oskar Taylor? Lindsay?? Grlj??

In a hypothetical scenario where it goes

Duursma
CDT

Robey
Cumming
Sharp
Taylor (in some combination)

Farrow
Dovaston

I would say Grlj would be my next cab off the rank, but given it looks like Melbourne will take Nairn with one of those selections, pick 9 will be whoever of the 8 above is still available, so it comes down to whether Melbourne like Farrow or Dovaston and we will take whichever one they don't.

Have loved reading all the speculation, but no one has any real idea what way it is going to fall. Are clubs going to pick best available or players that will serve a purpose. All I know Essendon needs pace and good kicking skills in the middle - does Sharp fit this? I see on Fox Afl they compare sharp to Worpel, if thats the case we should of just kept Hobbs and Setterfield. I think Tigers will take Cumming and Taylor, which will leave us with Robey, Sharp (not my choice) and Doveston.

Ideally I would like Robey, Taylor and Doveston!

Will Carlton float the trade for pick 9 until the need it or will they do it as soon as possible. If the bid on Dean hasn't happened until our first pick: a) they will be pleased and b) the price goes up based on us not bidding.
Perhaps 6 and 25 (Norf) for 21, 27 and 30. Still a points win for them but very sweet for us.

X taylor robey and dovaston my dream draft,

But I’ve got a feeling that the dees trade up to tigers pick and select robey or Cummings and tigers get the other and that leaves us with x Taylor sharp …..maybe dovaston or farrow

Nah it’s been confirmed Melbourne isn’t trading up.

it would be good if we could bring in some who have played together.

Cumming, Sharp - SA state Side

Robey, Lochy Dovaston, Xavier Taylor, Oskar Taylor, Greeves - Eastern Rangers

CDT, Sweid, El-Ackar - Cannons
