Just finished my first proper season in coach mode on very difficult. Managed to get Ben Brown, Jarrad Waite and Mason Wood to all kick 100 goals.

Notched up a pretty rare achievement last night, the Tony Lockett End one, which is triggered by kicking 1360 goals. Funnily enough, I brought up the achievement by kicking a goal to the Coventry End at Etihad Stadium.

Looks like they're doing stuff on steam, that or some lucky buggers have the game already

Farout... I remember when coming back to this thread after a few hours off it resulted in 5 unread pages!

Now, I haven't looked at this thread for weeks and have 2 unread pages. This shit died quickly. Worth playing again? Is online full of super teams and cheesey players or no?

I normally can't play more than two games in a row in one sitting because I get bored with it, but the other day I started a finals campaign, won the QF & PF then decided that I couldn't not play the Grand Final.

To make things interesting, I put the controller to the side and let the opposition do what they want for the first half. Interestingly, I received the rare achievement 'Premiership Quarter', which is 'come from behind to win a Grand Final'.

The strange thing is though, the achievement triggered in the first quarter when the opposition were 53 - 0. It must have sensed that I was going to end up overrunning the AI and winning.

Also, does anyone else struggle to commit to career mode? I just played a full season with North Melbourne, traded in Josh Kelly & Jack Billings, but I have no desire to keep playing, instead I want to try another team.

I would just play a regular season but there's that issue with the teams.

Yeah I wanted to finish my season with Port before a career, wanted to have all the players corrected first. Ended up starting a career just to keep playing, and half the team still look bad.

Season mode is shithouse anyway. Play a whole season and don't even see Brownlow/Coleman medallists and B&Fs. Pissed me off big time when I stuck it out, rather than start a career, just to see who would win the Brownlow.

Still think they should have just replicated Live 1's gameplay mechanics with the added things like dribble kicks, taps etc
Was a lot smoother and free flowing. Although it doesn't currently play like modern footy (obviously because it's a 2011 game) it feels more like modern footy than Evolution.
It's almost like Wicked Witch just watched a whole bunch of clips from the 90's and thought 'ohhhh so that's what football is'

I've also only played it maybe 2 or 3 times since the patch because they broke the game imo
You get called for throwing the ball when it's clearly a handball. I also can't stand how long it takes to kick. If you let go of the kick button in Live it was disposed of instantly. In Evolution it seems like you have to have at least 5 meters of space when you let go which is quite pathetic and frustrating
I mean it's the basics of the gameplay. From memory wasn't that their most important goal?
It's sad that a 2011 game still plays better than a 2017 game

Couldn't be more wrong

Evolution is the best representation of the sport of footy in a video game by a mile and is probably the first game that truly plays like footy (Live 1 was just too 'clean', dropped marks, fumbles and tap ons add a beautifully realistic layer of scrappiness to Evolution)

Evolution 2 could really be a breakthrough moment for afl games if they're able to implement modern tactics (spare man, zone defence etc)

I happen to agree with you but i think Live 1 has more going on in terms of zones and contests around the wings.

Evolution has some awesome features though, and can get better, it's definitely the go-to AFL game.

I'm glad both games exist!

Just need the tackle fest achievement is it glitches with new patch? Had 220 tackles on legendary difficulty full 20 minute quarters match and won't unlock. Tried pro getting 50 still not unlocking.

If this game was $50 I'd consider buying it. But watching the way it plays and looks on YouTube, it looks exactly like AFL Live, the game that came out in 2011. No way am I paying $80 or $90 for that. To the bargain bin with you.
This game looks like a lot of things, but AFL Live 1 isn't one of them.

It's become the perfect game to have a bash at every couple of days. I've found that I have to relearn certain aspects of it (timing the marking, getting used to chaining handballs to teammates etc). So the game retains a certain challenge (especially trying to reign in tactics when controlling a full team vs controlling just 1 player). I played Adelaide, scores were level at the end of the first quarter, broke away and built a lead in the second and third quarters. But Adelaide fought back in the last (grrr home ground advantage!) and kicked 4 goals to my 1 point, but I held on to win by 5.

Have been playing a bit over the last few nights, first decent run since the patch came out. The patch has cleaned it up a bit but it's still as frustrating as ever.

The <15m kicks aren't as common but they are still there.
Spoiling is so unreliable to the point where it's not even worth trying.
The AI can spoil and mark on the run but for some reason my players have to stop dead in their tracks 90% of the time to do either.
My CHB constantly leaves his man and therefore the corridor to goal wide open, despite being set to never leave his man unless I have the ball.
The free kicks are ridiculous. You can handball away, then get tackled, and then get called for a throw.
And the ball spills when you tackle the AI and the ball flies 30m away to their nearest free team mate are just infuriating and cheap as ****.
Not being able to see the power meter when deep in the backline or near the boundary is still an issue.
Can't aim your player to kick in a direction. Should be able to pivot like you can in kick outs wherever you are on the ground. Like when my player is boundary side I can't kick into the pocket and have him run onto it. I can only lock on to him and kick it directly to him which, unless you drop it short, means sitting it on his head. Players lead laterally but you can't kick it in front of their leads.
And goals on the run can get ****ed. Is there a trick because I'm baffled. Can't kick one unless I'm 5m out. Playing on end to end view so I'm perfectly lined up every time but both the goal kick and normal kick buttons spray it massively. It's at the point where I can look at my scorecard of 10.6 and can pretty confidently guess that I had 10 set shots and 6 on the run.

You have to play on a higher difficulty for a challenge, but when you do the AI is so cheap that it just saps all fun. You can grind out wins but it never feels like a fair contest.

At the moment I'm still playing to get through my first coach season but can't see it keeping my interest much beyond the Grand Final.
