I love creating a play, looking like I'm in strife in my defensive half..... only to create some run and do a few link up hand balls. I get excited almost like watching it happen in a proper game :D.

Figured out the Xbox One DVR stuff, I recorded the grand final end game sequence, it's just a matter of trying to get it to upload at some stage.

I started a new coach career - these are my two first JLT game results:

You'd think I was in control of the game looking at the score, but I wasn't. Just got a lucky good start in the first quarter... well first half, but Geelong made it look so effortless going from one end of the ground to the other. While I had to work super hard to score. They stormed home in the final quarter, when they kicked the super goal I was like OH CRAP.

Got demolished in the first half, I barely touched the ball in the first quarter. In the second I started to get the ball more often, but would often get my attack stopped on the wing or just on my 50m line. Got my mojo back in the second half, not sure if it's the programming or just run of luck in terms of finally getting a lucky mark.... but I've noticed when a team is on... it's harder to stop them. I finally hit the front with 2 minutes to go (about 40-60 seconds of real time left ?). Kicked the sealer with just seconds remaining and celebrated.

It was also very windy, the heaviest I've seen in the game - made set shots almost impossible (got lucky twice - the rest of my goals came from handballs to someone in the goal square! all but one of my behinds were set shot attempts that sailed away. The other behind was rushed).
Yeah I reckon there's some kind of Ai confidence/momentum system and I think that plays a part in some of their shocking misses

I played my third JLT match as freo v Carlton and I found that once they kicked a few goals in a row they started to kick pretty accurately but they usually miss early and that sets the tone for the game (almost like they've got the yips)

I've wanted to ask this question for some time...

Do you prefer Evolution or AFL Live 1 so far...

It's a tricky one for me...

I like that in AFL Live 1 kicking a goal near the boundary was pretty seamless and it was very much contested football, often difficult to break away and find space, but it got really good after a few weeks of practice, the gameplay was pretty darn good, i guess Live 1 is more a lo-fi version, but it was a pretty good game and still holds up pretty well...

Evolution is probably too early in it's life to make a judgment just yet, but it has some things that other games don't that are nice...

Sorry, is this the positive reacts only thread?
I know, but slagging it every single day, shows you just have some sort of personal hate for them. We already know you hate the game, why keep going for? Just play another game and do something with your life. When AFL live 2 was absolute crap I just stopped playing it, simple

The gameplay isn't a mess at all, the game actually plays quite well and feels like real footy (have to differentiate between shit gameplay or being shit at gameplay)
And yet the first criticism of AFL1 is always "it's a tacklefest." Which it isn't if you get good at the game.

Ok, you've changed my mind.

AFL Evolution is close to FIFA 14 in terms of quality and for AFL games it's basically AAA

For me, AFL 1 is still a far smoother gameplay experience. Evo has moments and features that are better than Live 1 for sure, but given the choice of the 2 I'd still take Live 1 at this stage.

Give it a few weeks and see if the enjoyment is still there. I know with Live I played it in patches, stopped for a while.... when the pc version came out I played it for months.

I prefer how free flowing Evolution is (it doesn't become a serious tacklefest until you pick higher difficulties).

The graphics aren't the best, but you don't notice while playing (more when you're looking at still images).

If they fix the AI missing easy shots at goal (but not to the point they never miss) it will be more fun.

The game has shortcomings that can be worked around. Just like AFL Live I struggled with aspects of it (the ball being a tackle magnet) I adjusted how I played the game, got better at linking players together where the ai couldn't tackle me instantly.

Evolution has annoyances (being pinged for throwing the ball during a tackle, called on advantage with the slightest touch of a button) that can easily be solved by being patient during the game (instead of taking it back for a refund). I don't give away as many free kicks now compared to when I started on Friday. I might do too many aggressive tackles or shank kicks out on the full.

The fact you can only play 2+ player online with a local friend is a shame. In this day and age I should be able to team up with my mate at his house and play together.

Live 1 was a either a tackle fest or you won by 100 points every game on hard

Easily Evolution

I loved Live 1 when it came out and without it I don't think evolution would as good as it is

But Evolution is just miles better and really feels like footy (Live 1 was close but Evolution nails it in every regard)

Add to that the number of game modes where I go to play the game and actually have to divide my time up between coach career, mens pro, online and AFLW pro

Evolution and 'good' shouldnt go in the same sentence. Take off your rose coloured glasses and step back - its terrible.

Youre implying the existence of AFL Live explains the (lack of quality) of this game, which makes sense cos that was an over rated, hideous clusterf*** as well.

Was 44 points down at three-quarter time against the Cats (Patty Dangerfield 2 super goals in a row right before half-time) and went down by 3 points with Daniher kicking 9.

Why can't these things be patched? What is an issue in the game that can't be patched?
Its an issue because I payed $100 for a game that one mode can't be played and the other i can't save mid game so can't play either. To say not an issue can be patched is a bit of a stretch considering currently is an issue and there was a day one patch and not addressed then no guarantees will be in future. May be in to hard basket heres hoping its not

Just out of curiosity, and as an aside, has there actually ever been a game you've ever liked?

Many. Including many QUALITY sports games actually worth the money they ask, and not just made as a cash grab to rip off the gullible and naive, like yourself who seem to think the sun shines out the arse of incompotent australian sports game developers

Is there anyway to play on from a kick in after behind and not get tackled immediately? Basically my only option seems to be a torp straight up the guts.

I do need to work out an effective kick-in strategy though.

I always go immediately to the left, wait for the LBP to run to the boundary and just as he turns just tap the kick button and you get it to him in the pocket 20m from where you started.

From there either pick options or if you do just kick the torp it's 20m further away and on the wing compared to kicking for distance from the square.

I tend to run diagonally left or right - won't evade the person on the mark in the kick in completely but you should be able to bomb it to whichever player is near the 50m arc. I also carry the AFL Live tactic of playing on and hand balling it away letting my closest player run on to it. It's basically my default tactic on hard difficulty.

The game shipped unfinished.

I've still got my copy and will keep it, but when you pay good money you expect a finished product.
Most games shipped unfinished. I can't remember a game that released and then didn't have a patch released thereafter.

I think there's a big difference between blindly and naively throwing cash at these developers, which some do, and just supporting them because it's the only way we're going to get any sort of cricket or a AFL game, which is what I do.

You'll find plenty of posts from me criticising and complaining about these games.
I just prefer to live life with a glass half full approach, and no that's not the same as rose coloured glasses.

I've been critical of WW since AFL2 came out, the absolute joke of a game that was led me to believe that this wouldn't be too great either, but WW have been fairly in touch with this forum and social media for a while now and I'd assume they would be aware of issues in the game and patch them accordingly. I don't think they will turn a blind eye to the game now that it's released.

Thought the game was selling for $79. Most games come with their issues.

How do the stats work? The reason I ask is that I may have 32 uncontested possessions and 20 contested yet I only have 25 kicks and 17 handballs. They don't total properly.

Also I reckon they should adjust the view from full back on a kick in. So hard to see where/who you are kicking to.
