^^ makes sense

Perhaps all this is what they were really banking on: that some frustrated forum users would bitch about the lack of information all year and build up the hype amongst the target audience themselves. They're probably watching us right now....

[EDIT in response to Qwinton's edit]

I believe the request for screenshots was because people wanted some kind of confirmation that the game was actually getting made. And some other people, knowing that screenshots don't define how good a game is, threw out the phrase that gameplay > graphics.

If early screenshots were released, all the self-appointed critics would have a field day, whereas people like me (the gameplay > graphics) people, would at least be satisfied that there's actually some effort being made into keeping the audience's attention. Most people know that gameplay can't be exhibited through screenshots.

I'm in 100% agreement that having screen shots would be awesome, but as I say, I would guess that it's down to the publisher. This doesn't mean that the game isn't going well, or that it doesn't look any good etc, it just means that this is how the publisher works.

I have worked with both types of publisher (open and secretive). I prefer to work with open ones so I can talk to my friends and family about what I am doing, but I totally understand that they want to control things, and sometimes the best way of doing this is to keep quiet.

I'm sure that when they are ready, there will be a massive press campaign for the game, but before then, they seem to want to keep things under wraps.

Ever worked for the Rockstar types where they demand the games get good reviews? ;)

No, but I once worked for a company that used to buy good reviews.

One game I worked on was truly awful, average reviews of 40% in the mags. But in one mag it got a review of 89%. This was the same mag that the publisher (gone out of business now) bought a 2 page ad for the game.

Don't believe everything you read in mags / on the net ;)

No real surprises there, I'm guessing the pressure comes from the marketing types? The developers would probably have a good idea of how the game rates?

We do, but it all comes down to what kind of reviewer you get.

Imagine having AFL reviewed by a NRL / soccer / NFL fan who doesn't like or understand the code? Having one bad review from a reputable source (say IGN) can kill a game even though it's looking and playing well.

I don't give a shit about screenshots or gameplay footage.

I just want some god damn info. Whatever it is, a release window...just confirming the game is still actually going. It'd be nice to get SOMETHING. That is all we're really asking.

As I have mentioned before, this is probably because they are not allowed to talk about it. I'm sure they would if they could.

as said many times.

Ofcourse there will be marketing for the game but not until 2-3months before release.
The fact we havent seen anything yet means its not even close to release.

As for that commentary stuff, that is easy to code into a game, if its true there having trouble with that, well gameplay is going to have massive problems

Appreciate all the information you have provided so far and totally agree with the point I quoted. This is why I prefer to see what the lads here on Bigfooty have to say about a game rather than read a review which may not be true - Bigfooty is full of a lot of idiots but the reviews/recommendations on this board are pretty much spot on.

I actually know the person they are talking about, and I know for a fact that he no longer works for Big Ant, so I wouldn't take anything he says as gospel.

And no, I don't know any more than that. The few peeps I do know at Big Ant have made it clear they can't talk about it (as with most games, announced or not), so I don't ask.

Yeah i do the same thing. Usually read up on a game that i want and am undecided on. And i know a few that have the same taste in games as me so go by what they say.

Obviously they're not allowed to, but this just doesn't fit into anything where there's bad publicity to come from it.

Seriously, just them coming out and saying "We are still making the game" would be better than what we've got now. It's not about us wanting a bevvy of info, it's about wanting to know if this thing is still ****en on! I mean, we were told that the title would be out in March this year and there wasn't even a "this title has been delayed" announcement. It's just about SOMETHING being given, no matter how big or little the info is.

hey guys well back in april i went to eb games down in swanston street and i asked the guy behind the counter when the afl game was going to be released made by bigant.he looked on the computer and he told me late august to early september i asked him if that was legit and he said yes so i was happy with that and i walked off.

last saturday when melbourne vs carlton in the rain i was making my way down to eb games elizabeth street to buy a ps3 controller as i stood in line the person in front of me asked about the afl game. so i stood there listening to the guy speak and he said that the game has been cancelled due to circumstances that was beyond there control.

which got me thinking. could the afl have intervene and told them to cancel it and wait until there was 18 teams in the league or until gold coast was officially finalized? or was this guy just talking a load of crap and cant mention anything about it?

what do use think?

ps: sorry if it doesnt make sense i was in a rush to type this :D

eb are clueless, they find out dates at exactly the same time as the press does and the press doesn't seem to have any dates.

I wouldn't believe a word of what they say.

the only time i've been happy with EB release dates was when i went into EB one day and asked about Gran Turismo 5 (this was late last year) he pretended to look it up on the computer and said "2020"

Lol :thumbsu:

This! :thumbsu: I'll look up a game and be unsure so I usually come in and read the threads on here and see what people are saying about it. A good recent example, Red Dead Redepmtion. I looked at videos, read a little then wasn't sure if I really wanted to buy it. I checked out the thread on BigFooty and read through it, and from what was being said, I went out th next day and bought it, and have not been disappointed.

I wouldn't really listen to EB too much. I went in on the 5th asking about Rockband: Greenday, and he said it'd be out the 12th. (It was supposed to come out the 10th, I got it from JB on the 9th) But I put my pre-order down. On the 9th, I was out at JB anyway looking for a couple of CD's I was after, and I see the game. I go back and ask him if they will give me a copy from there, as it's out in JB. He says they're not getting it in any of their next week or two. Got my deposit back and went to JB.

Eb seem to have NFI sometimes. :p

I never go to EB anymore. Just sick of the general shitty customer service they provide. Went into one a couple of months ago actually, and was looking for an old game. Went up to an unmanned desk and waited patiently for someone to show. I saw 2 guys joking around and reorganising some games on the shelf near the back of the store. Pretty sure they knew I was waiting at the desk, I just assumed there was someone else around to deal with, but after a couple of minutes of waiting I just left and went to JB (who, in their own right don't have the greatest customer service either).

For all the posts saying bigant "can't" say anything about the game, it was 6? weeks ago they themselves said via their web site that there WILL be news soon.
WTF is soon?

I think I know why there hasnt been much info on this game. HES have announced "RUgby League Live" for XBOX 360 and PS3 to come out on 2nd September. The developer is.....Big Ant Studios. hopefully after announcing this game they will release more info on the AFL game. If you guys want proof here it is: http://www.hes.net/newsite/products/prodinfo.php?pagerequest=PS3RLL003375

Shit. 99% chance we'll get that games engine for the AFL game too. Far from photo realism in those graphics!

Still seems stupid that we'll have had a game that was previously unannounced hit the PS3 and 360 before a game that was announced 1 and a half years ago...with a high chance that it'll enter the 2 year barrier as well.
