Question for Ross, just out of interest as I have no idea what so ever on how a game is made from start to finish, what were the processes about how to do this game, game play first, then modeling players/stadiums etc?

I would guess that the detail modeling of players would be one of the latter things, to keep the lists up to date? or has it been a case of the well known players like Judd, Ablett and co got modeled earlier than others, who only came into AFL systems this year?

Another Q on that, in regards to attributes and stats, are they updated on a weekly basis, or will be touched up before release, or were they rated say at the start of the season?

Examples would be from my club Richmond, Ben Nason was a late pick, and at the start of the year people would have said he would have been lucky to get a game, obviously Riewoltd has stepped up to be a really good forward this season and one of Dustin Martins biggest strengths is his strength, the guy is a hard man to tackle, so will the attributes be up to date upon release date, and guys like Nason who would have been ranked well below say a Tom Hislop and Adam Thomson at the start of the year, will now be rated a lot higher etc?

I know it would take a huge effort to do this game so was just interested in hearing the process behind it, in terms of what do you start the game with etc?

When the game ships we will be releasing a "developer diary" that will have pictures, concept art, and lots of "insider" goodies.

I would like to continually keep up to date stat's via XBLA/PSN (online), the ability for us to do this is being worked through, no promises, but if we can we will.

Kicking With Quinten - miss ten set shots in a game with one player.
Worth the Waite - get reporter ten times in a season with one player.
Colliwobble - crack the shits at the game because Dane Swan's stats aren't high enough.

Sounds great, what I meant though was that are players attributes rated as current , for example Pods from Geelong would have been rated fairly poor at start of season but has had a good year, is this something that you keep altering in terms of overall ability over the course of the season or would do before release date? Or is it a case of whenever you guys did the overall attributes of players it will stay that way.

The bit about you keeping up to date stats, do you mean as in rosters and players atrributes or did you just mean overall stats from the real footy eg games played/ goals etc?

Either way sounds like a great game on our hands!!

Love the trophies, esp "worth the waite" :)

Ok, so here's the thing, the trophies are pretty much set - but - I can probably get one removed and one from BF added. If someone can start a thread now, best trophy posted will be in the game and the poster will have a "thanks" credit in the game. You will have one week from today! (It will be judged by a team of five here at Big Ant - decision being final!)

The stats are reasonably current but of course will become out of date the minute a game is played after release. The only way we will be able to keep them up to date is via a download service, XBLA/PSN, and I hope that we can do that based on real games played.

if that trophies thread hasn't been posted i have a good one

Debut a player with any team and poll 3 votes

The Andrew Walker: play over 50 games with the debut game being the best
That special club: kick a goal with your first kick in football
Snub the kid: don't shake the kid's hand when he presents you with your grand final medal

These would of course require some sort of player mode like that seen in the NBA 2k and FIFA series.

My idea for the trophy is, what about taking a team from the wooden spoon one year to premiers the next (would need to be a career type mode task)

Or winning a brownlow or coleman medal with a first year player!

Been busy the last few days. Let me know if I've missed any info to put in the sticky thread and I will update it.

StAmAtIs87 has created the Achievement/Trophy thread guys here.

Question : I know this game it's too late, but for later releases are you looking at incorporating Kinect\Move?

We have another game supporting them so it's not going to be technically difficult - it will depend on how many Aussies buy them.... time will tell - Kinect will be very expensive (at least initially).

Kinect will expensive from a Development POV? I assume because there would not be much middleware out there so you need to do it all in house?

Ugh, Kinect/Move, I'll take a controller over that gimmicky, HD Wiimote stuff any day.

Ross,

Do we have the option to kick the ball off the ground eg if you're under pressure in the goal square and the ball is on the ground, instead of waiting for the player to pick up the ball and risk getting tackled, can we soccer it through?

Thanks for the feedback so far.

It is expensive development, but not too bad, I meant from the consumer point of view - I am not sure how many people will buy it, I am yet to see the "killer app" for it....

Only area I could see it working in a AFL game is set shots.

also relating to this question. Lets say i want to play 5min quarters. Will other games in season mode adjust to this?. so instead of players getting 30 or so possessions each game, it will automatically adjust to the shorter quarters therefore lowering the average disposal per game. This feature will be very important if stats play a huge part in this game

This feature is also important as if we play shorter quarters we wont be able to achieve a score of 100+, so hopefully other teams shouldn't be able to as well.

hey ross, did you end up finding out the answer for this question?

cheers

Yep. Trophies, achievments, etc.. related to stat's will be based on a certain quarter length or less and "normal" or greater difficulty setting.

We are also under some restrictions, currently if you make a Kinect game you *must* not use the normal controller at all.

Was not aware of this, serious games only see it working as a crossover. I assume MS have this rule in place to build up the casual games.

Why do I get the feeling I'm being ignored? I'm starting to question why I even bothered registering on this site.

It would be nice if you actually responded to at least one of my questions Ross.

I don't see how confirming whether or not we can kick soccer type goals is revealing too much when Torpedoes, Stab kicks etc have already been confirmed.

A simple yes or no would be nice.

Ross,

Can you please advise the quarter lengths? Premiership 2007 had 2 minute quarters which was too short (game about ten minutes), or 5 minutes which was too long (about 30 minutes). Will there be something in between? Thanks!

Relax Number 12, geez. You think a post like this is going to make him want to answer?

Mate, seriously. We should all feel lucky that Ross has given us the amount of info that he has. He is not obligated in any way to give us any information, be grateful that he has at all.

Ross has said - many times - that Big Ant Studios want to keep some things for the official press release when the time comes. Kicking soccer goals might be one of those, as it's pretty much the latest 'in-thing' for the players to try this season.

Instead of being petulant, how about showing some appreciation for the fact Ross has taken the time to give us the details he already has?
