cause its an australian game, we dont have to experience the bad lag we normally experience with other online games against other countries :thumbsu:

Unless expats jump on.

Still have to consider the average Australian internet connection is shit house and the upload speed (everything in gaming) is even worse.

BigAnt still need to develop an online environment that's not bandwidth hungry.

thats a good point actually. At least they don't have to worry about one part of the world playing against someone on the opposite side of the world.

im sure bigant have taken the appropriate measures to deal with this though, would be good if Ross could tell us a few more things about online play

Funny how this thread is dead when Ross has not posted.

So when does everyone think the game will come out? and what are you most looking forward to in the game?

Is there a regional search? What is the minimum upload speed to host a 4x4 game?
Do we really need a regional search? There would be at most around 100 (maybe a few more) people from overseas playing the game at best, bit of a pointless thing to add really.

Lol at your most recent post in the Q&A thread too, can only imagine how many PM's you're getting and how many Ross is getting too. Because it's really going to get you further sending a message to them than on here...
with no management/career mode the game is going to get boring real quick
There'll be some form of Season mode. There has to be, just that is a big element of the game and will no doubt be waiting for the press release to reveal.

If they could add a management mode it would be perfect. They could play footy fanatic fx and just take a few ideas from that. Footy Fanatic would be a great basis to build up management mode from.

This has never been confirmed, and is a question that Ross has not answered and there will be a reason for that.

There has been mention of injury really affects the lower ranked sides, which is a hint towards a career/seasons mode.

Would be pretty safe to say that they would at least have some kind of season mode, considering the previous versions had that. A basic career mode would be fine, don't need a full on management mode, just a career, where you trade/delist/draft would be great!

I am most looking forward to the game play, and also the first AFL game where you can clearly recognise players from a distance.

Footy Fanatic FX is a fabulous game, but if B.A.S eventually look at it for future editions, they wouldn't want to make it too similar because they'd want the game to be easy for the novice to pick up and play to a certain extent, while FFFX can get a bit complex.

The reason why (and probably something for future versions to really get 100% right) there could be a difficulty slider built into the manager mode/career mode/season mode. So you select easy and it just works like a very basic mode with very basic trading, drafting and team management but then if you select hard (or maybe 'realistic') difficulty and it turns it into something really in-depth of the likes of Footy Fanatic/TAR/Premiership Coach.

This is something for that mode I've been looking for and asking for years now. Get the gameplay right and then introduce a TAR/Footy Fanatic or Premiership Coach like career mode only instead of simulating or watching the dots on a gameday screen you get to play the gameday. Would be epic.

That would be the greatest game of all time.

We will get it if we keep hounding Ross.

Just wondering if you can tell us about the awards that will be in the game? Brownlow, B&F, AA Team, NAB Star??

Let us know if you can't say.

Cheers

Yeah, that sounds pretty good eh. :thumbsu: Would make for a spectacular game.

Can't see it happening any time soon haha.

Not really. The sensible ones of us posting are very realistic about this game. We don't mind if it's bare bones in terms of features, what we've heard about gameplay has been very encouraging, and the screens of the players look really good. I think we're all desperate to finally have an AFL game to play again, and from what we've seen/heard it looks like it's going to surpass those games by a long shot, which is only a good thing.

But you do have a point, it seems a few posters who haven't been following the thread from the start seem to be getting carried away and making unrealistic suggestions that WILL lead to disappointment for them, but not for the rest of us.

I think you all need to worry about me using Trav Cloke to kick 10 goals and demolish you in the name of Collingwood, even from this side of the world!!

Big Ant website says it is due for release 2010.

http://www.bigant.com/bigant_games/view/australian-rules-football-18/

Can we put this question to bed now?

It says its due for release. Doesn't mean it will. Do you really think they would release 2 of their games at the same time (with Rugby releasing on September 2)

AFL would have to be released in season, to make it worth while for the publisher. No point releasing an AFL game in summer. Just wouldn't move as many units

pklus there has been no press release formallly anounncing it. do you reckon they'll go

"Oh by the way, we made this AFL game. Its out now, go buy it?"

Nope, they need to build the hype, and give enough time to build presells on the title

Releasing a week before season kick off in 2011? Makes sense. This gives them these options:

More time to tweak.
Update squads (retirements, delistings etc)
GC will be in. Need to create them into it with all their players

It all adds up to an early March 2011 release

in all seriousness there better be a career/season mode

Of course there will be a season mode

If they want to raise the hype, surely there would have to be a superbowl-esque premiere ad on throughout the grand final day coverage, when EVERYONE is watching.

Maybe use the game engine to recreate some of the highlights so far of the season, and splice them in with the actual footage.

Though just a decent preview and a release date will make me pre-order.
