+love the way the ball bounces around, instead of skidding on.
+commentary hasnt been to annoying yet but they say great catch all the time instead of mark
+seems to be alot of unlockables looking at the trophy list
+statistics at the end of each qtr
+selecting team lineup is alot easier than afl live

few things I have noticed after 1 hour play

Will not bother with this, response to it has been predictable.

Nuffies who were useless at AFL1 say its better, guns at AFL1 say its just iOS port.

Hopefully AFL1 online still remains strong.

Ross, have you put any thought into public funding for your own sequel?

Something like indiegogo where users can buy packages, eg: Package 2 =$500, buyer gets copy of game, a credit in game, and their name in commentary, or a custom jumper, etc. different categories get different exclusives.

Id donate $1k personally.

As good as that sounds (and I'd definitely donate a coupla hunj), I'd assume the problem here is the AFL licensing.

How did BAS get around that with the cricket?

Is that possible?

I've always wondered this too - cause I'd pay significantly more for an AFL game than a normal game.

Wouldnt be enough people willing to to make it realistically an option imo.

You would be surprised at how well this system of production seems to work.

They would have to set a goal, eg: $2m needed and a limited amount of certain packages that can be bought. Another eg $10k for a local club to be included in the game. Guys who play at the club can have fundraisers etc.

If the target ($2m) is not reached by a set date then all parties are refunded and the idea gets shelved. Even then, there might be ridiculous support and the AFL might step in and grant a license.

You just don't know until you try it.

I reckon the ball is a bit too erratic personally. A drop punt will bounce truly 9 times out of 10 (roughly). But it seems like 9 out of 10 times it veers off at right angles in the game.

Another personal thing but i reckon the line up selector was better in AFL1. Was good how you could just navigate sideways rather than having to scroll through the whole list.

Do agree with the stats though. Unlockables are a nice touch too.

DBC is entirely unlicensed in terms of teams/players, apart from Don Bradman. That means it'll ship with national teams filled with generic players.

I assume it's easier to get around licensing for cricket because the teams are just nations, and their uniforms are easily imitated without copying. You can't really stop someone using nationalities or national colours in a game.
When you have teams with specific names like Adelaide Crows and West Coast Eagles, and very specific uniforms, it becomes a bit harder to get around licensing i'd assume.

The only alternative, if the AFL license is exclusive, is to go the unlicensed Aussie Rules Football route, and ship with teams with names like Adelaide and Perth. And from there, have people create the players/teams in their player/team creator. And just sneakily have all the uniform designs in the game, so that they can be recoloured to their correct styles.

I like the line up selector better, and I reckon the commentary is the best I've seen on an AFL game.

Dennis saying at half time "stay tuned for the half time show. Wait there's no half time show? Seriously..." made me laugh

Thats what i had in mind, unlicensed team names etc.

Make the outcome similar to what DBC has done.

Will lead to even more accurate players and teams. And save BAS a bucketload of money/time.

Camera Follow Far is also really good, I was really concerned that we wouldn't get a good camera angle but credit where its due

I'm getting pretty over this already. I tried a few online games and won 2 of them but I only won from having my full forward unopposed, cherry picking in the goalsquare. The game is just too messy to feel competitive and the kicking and marking feel very unnatural, particularly how the ball travels in the air and bounces everywhere on the ground (it would be nice if we could have a medium between this and AFL Live's rolling along the ground).

Judging by other people's replies, looks like it'd be best to wait for this game to drop in price (maybe wait for a game of the year edition).

Being end of season anyhow, I'm tempted to wait until the update comes out for next season. I say that now though, I'll likely get bored sometime next week and "need it" that very minute.
