both my uncles used to be the bouncers at Leggies back in the day

OFF TOPIC: Small world, I wrote the software that rostered the staff for ACCS (the security company that operated both Leggies and the 21st) :)

so its 10 till 2? usually would it be packed for these types of events?

It hasn't been really packed so far, no lines or anything like that. Others could correct me if I'm wrong, but I think everyone that has wanted a game has had the opportunity.

There are plenty that look on, not wanting to take the controller as they don't want to be shown up - I would say just go for it! (Tip: button mashers do extremely poorly in this game...)

Actually I'm keen to see how injuries work now also. I know in past games the player would run off but there would be no specific diagnosis hopefully in this one a player limps if they have a leg injury for instance.

We're specific in that we will tell you exactly what the injury is but you're not going to see much with regard to players limping off etc... in a cut scene - we don't stop the game for anything, play is continuous like the real thing.

What exactly is a badge? Are they just used in game for your playercard?

Like my avatar, they look like the old Badges that people would put on their scarves. You earn them, just like trophies, etc...

Thanks, so what are the used for? Are they used in game? or can they be used elsewhere?

Ahh well that sounds good! If it doesnt stop play and theres a real diagnosis then thats all thats needed, not so much an animation to show it also. One of the things that made me laugh with AFL 2007 was after the game the injury reports you'd occasionally see things like 'Ryan Lonie, heavy injury with a sore thumb, out for 8 weeks'!

Haha! You really got a problem with GAME Don't you? :D I thought it was unprofessional to talk about competition like the way you do? hehe!

I've heard the same thing kind of, I went to EB and asked them about it, the "only" nice guy was working there and said he's had a few pre order "one was mine" Went into JB and they where too busy so didn't bother asking, then went into Game and they said they where suprised at just how popular the game is, And they can't have been BSing me as the only other guy in the store had pre ordered it...

"Yes, I'm a talkative person! I talk to anyone who's interested in the same things as me, Games"!

The game seems to be going viral down here in most stores, Though As I had said, EBGames in Adelaide aren't very good, Not many of us like the store unfortuantly. I do know theres a store in brisbane that's awesome, completely different than what I get here, So defo won't be suprised if Game get there own pre order bonus as they seem pretty popular down here now and there's 2 stores in like a 5km driving distance, and usually always have 3-5 people in them.

I personally think AFL should beat the crap out of Halo for Australia, I can't say how many sales it would have got, only 1 of my mates own the crappy game, 1 out of probably 15 who own a Xbox, While I've made them pretty much all go pre order.

I'm pretty sure there would be more die hard AFL Fans who own a casual console than the australian fanbase for halo......

I'm probably wrong, But pretty shit if an Australian rules game doesn't get more hype than some cyborg crap, Surely there's more die hard aussie afl fans than there would be actual die hard gamers?

POINT: Sad world if Halo' would beat AFL sales in Australia :(

Halo is a massive game, it will outsell AFL in Australia easily.

Look at NSW and QLD. Do you really think AFL will outsell Halo in those states?

Thats no offense to Ross, as obviously i believe he has made an outstanding game (obviously i haven't been able to play it like you lucky people in Vic) hence why i have thrown my support behind his game

GAME may be decent in SA, but that doesn't mean they are a decent company as a whole.

As i have said many times before, in any national chain, you get great stores, good stores and shit stores. It just depends on who's managing it and how much they care

That applies to anything, EB, JB, GAME, Dominos, Pizza hut.... anything

I am quite sure they are BSing you about their numbers too :) They are hardly going to say "nah its going really bad, we have hardly any orders" They will always say its going awesome, as then people go "oh cool, maybe i have to order it too" it creates excitement.

I can bag anyone i want. Why would it be unprofessional of me?

It would unprofessional to bag my company, but i love my company, so i would never do that

Controls used to play this? Just so I know before I go in tomorrow. :p

X to pass?
Square to kick at goal? (Tackle as well?)
Circle to handball? (Punch as well?)

Is it something like that?

X to pass
Triangle to tackle when defending, fend-off when attacking, and take a mark
L2 + triangle to spoil
Circle to handpass
Square to bomb it long / shoot for goal
R2 to sprint
L1 or R1 to swap players (I forget)

Ross,
Is there a button such as LB/L1 in FIFA that allows you to call in a 2nd player to make a run nearby and help out the guy with the ball? Was wondering if the same thing could happen in this, cause looking at the videos it seems like the player holding the footy gets stranded with guys closing in on him.

That would explain why my guy just stood there when I pressed O in a marking contest

Sorry if this has been asked but are there any differences between the console version and the computer version? Or just released later?

Hey Ross, sorry if this has been asked, with creating teams, how many templates for guernseys are there ? been thinking i might create myself a VFL ;)

I've played this game for long enough to be able to answer that :p

You can lock on to a teammate (hold L2 I think and cycle through teammates using analogue stick) and this will cause them to try to run into space. It generally works for a kicking target if the player is further away but could work for a handball target in close. I've found that team mates will generally run with you about 15 metres away so you can handball to them on the run.

AI teammates WON'T shepherd for you though and I'm pretty sure Ross has confirmed this. I suppose this pretty much answers your question. As a guess, I reckon it'd be a gameplay feature looked at for the next edition. If you're playing co-op though you can use the bump as a shepherd though.

The game can be fairly congested at times so you need to learn how to quickly do handballs, stab kicks and the fend button. The game is at least pretty fair when it comes to holding the ball though.

Almost certain that it's the same. The PC version will inevitably look better because you can run it in true 1080p (not just 760p upscaled like on consoles) and with more AA hopefully. On the downside though, the PC version will be a lot less popular and is apparently coming on Games for Windows Live which I've never had much success with (Steam is 10x better). Finding online games will likely be hard on the PC version and you'll have to have a 360 controller for the PC (can you even use PS3 controllers on the PC?) if you want to play. Well, I'm sure there will be some bastardised version of controls for a keyboard but it wouldn't be worth it given how vital the analogue sticks are in this game.

Ross, do you have an idea when the PC version will come out?
Why is it going to take longer?
How do you feel the game will play like on PC? Will it be harder?
Will there be any major changes from the 360/ps3 version?

If these questions have been answered could someone point me in the right direction?
Cheers

The JB store had a bit of paper with the controls on it. From memory:

X = kick
O = handball
Square = kick at goal. also press this to change camera to behind player for a set shot
Triangle = mark, tackle or fend
R1 = sprint (careful as your player won't bounce when sprinting). also use this to play on.
R2 = kick modifier (hold R2 and hold X for a torp, hold R2 and tap X for a stab)
L2 + triangle = spoil
Right analogue stick = bump when not in possession. works like in NHL games
D-pad = on the fly interchange controls but probably a bit too tricky for a total n00b

I forget which button is used for locking on players.
