AFL LIVE 2011 - 360, PS3 & PC - Part - 26

Finally getting the hang of the game for the second time, it usually takes a while for me to get back into the swing of things after not playing a game for so long (especially with past AFL games i used to struggle a lot!). In 3 days i've gone from being smashed, to competing and matching the ai, to starting to beat them regularly. While this took me close to a month to do after i purchased the game on release .

There is still so much i need to improve on, like accurately reading the on screen radar, being able to win marking contests more often (tend to fluke them, whereas when i initially played the game months ago, i always SPOILED in the contest, rather than take marks).

When alternating console versions of a game i quickly notice ddifferent things graphically AND in regards to the controls (once again i'm bouncing between the ps3 and 360 versions of AFL Live). Back when playing Top Spin 4, i noticed i had much better control of the player and being able to hit shots more accurately using the ps3 controller, than i was able to with the 360 controller. With AFL Live, i found that i struggled to move the player(s) around on the ps3 version..... while i felt that i had much more control on the 360 version (particularly when it came to tackling and being able to aim and kick for goal).

Sayf Blayde is hilarious.

He's no good at all. I played him before the patch came out. He has the usual custom team with a superstar spine. He was also an epic shot blocker. I beat him comfortably with the default Melbourne team. He also quit sometime during the third quarter.

He's played what, 1000 games or something? The kid definitely has no life.

I managed to master the game offline and was smashing teams on legend, so i thought hey, I'll give online a go, i should go alright at it.

Well wow.....played about 4 or 5 games and haven't won a single game, i played some bigant guy first up with 200,000 XP and almost beat him but since then I've been spudding it up. I'm playing like i would against the computer, keep thinking my opponents are going to do things the computer would do and I'm just getting smashed

Could anyone give me a quick rundown on tactics that work online, because im stumped at the moment. BTW my online is lukew_93 if any of you guys might have played me, and if the guy that i quit against is here, it wasn't me my internet decided to crack it!

You almost certainly weren't playing against a Big Ant employee. You were just playing against someone who has beaten someone else with a Big Ant badge.

In hindsight, the badges should have only been given out to people who directly beat Big Ant employees. These days every man and his dog has one.

Had a ripping game tonight against a flog called Hustler 1975 i think. He had a souped up 5 star custom team. He was winning by 3 goals with 6 minutes left and i kicked 2 quick goals and 1 point to be 5 points down. I get the ball forward but he rebounds with seconds left it doesnt go far and i bang it inside 50 and mark it 25m out on a tight angle. The siren blows and i go back and kick the goal. Won by a point, it's always good beating a flog

Hahaha I played a game tonight against I KLOWNI RASER and he was pretty s**t. I was 10 goals up half way through the third quarter and he quits after kicking a point. I then recieve a voice message from him and this is how it went. ' Who soccers the ball and hip 'n' shoulders in real AFL. You're a shit ****. You are the shittest c**t ALIVE. Hahahaha I laughed so much.

I was on a 35 win streak online until i came up against a player who had half a clue, and the most gorilla FF and CHF i have ever seen. I had no lag but spoiling was literally futile 80% of the time... Ive played gorilla custom players before and can usually spoil if im in a good position, but with this guy i couldnt, lost 50 - 40 and am pretty bummed, was getting about 5000 exp per win!

No. I doubt think they would even worry about another patch if there is a game coming out next year. Or hopefully they have secretly submitted a patch to MS/Sony and it could be released soon.

Agreed, played some DB yesterday, was only down by a goal with 2 mins left and then the standard last 2 min goalfest started and i lost by 3-4 goals. All they need to do is have a ruckman that can punch and an unrealistically fast judd/ablett combo and your toast. They're too fast, run onto the ball and then take stupid marks in the FWD line coz they can stick their arms through your defenders chest.

Anyhow, i'm getting much better at this game i've now won 13/14 of my last games and producing a much smarter approach to what i used to. Still having a shitload of fun with this game no matter how many times i say i'll stop playing coz it really can shit you up the wall. e.g. Yesterday i played a guy and for the first half i could not tackle him? my play would be running right next to him but triangle would not do anything, tried bumping and nothing? Is this just a lag issue? Anyway it corrected itself after half time and he was never to score another goal

I hope there will be another iteration this game could be truly amazing with some of the bugs ironed out and some better graphics etc..

Also sick of the man on the mark issues.

But mainly sick of:

Cox punch, ablett run and kick to franklin, goal from 50 with a snap on 3 of my defenders, repeat times 6.

It makes for a boring game, I like to earn my goals with good decisions and precision passes or kicks to space and running better angles instead of just holding triangle all game.

Anyone else having trouble with team management before online games? No matter what tagging tactics i change to, once I'm in the game i have to do it all over again? any suggestions?

Because it is brilliant but has major flaws.

That and ive been off work for 3 weeks so far with a broken arm, so not much else to do.
