Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

Definately doesn't sound like the ideal preparation especially so close to the season starting, i cant speak for other clubs in Mackay, but ground availablility at Rogers oval due to the weather hasn't been ideal either.
The Swans oval looks like a cow paddock and alternative vernue's haven't been much better plus there's limited indoor options which is a bummer too.

Who looks to be Gav's replacement with such short notice, Catter or yourself?
Not sure on the coaching front, Strop who was Gavs assistant and myself took most of the pre season program. I haven't put my hand up to run the show, i think Strop will end up taking it on just because its so close to the season starting.

Yeah forgot was the assistant last season, you would presume he would be the likey replacement being so close to rnd 1 and since he's taken most of the preason as you mentioned.

I see you guys are first up v Saints this Saturday morning in the carnival.
Apparently Saints have picked up a gun fullforward, kicked a couple of tons down Surfers way recently, we'll soon see i suppose.

Will Branchflower stay now Gav has moved on?
We've lost a few from last years grannys team.

Branchy has moved back down to the Goldcoast so you wont have to worry about him this year.

I heard he might be heading back down there, big loss obviously for you guys but the Eagles where clearly head of any other team in the home and away season so you can afford to loose a couple with your depth, other sides don't have that luxury to loose any of their guns.
Word out of the Hawkes camp is they've put 8 clearances in from players around country vic.
T-Bone is a big pick up for them.

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

All is good up here. Football club and oval got through without any worries.
Any damage down there to footy facilities or ovals?

Swans ground is unplayable, long lush grass and very wet/damp underneath, lucky we are out at Moranbah this week, their ground is ok from what i hear.
We had a sheet of iron roof tear of the change rooms and the away bench/shed was demolished but nothing major.
Bakers is fine and when i went past Saints ground earlier it looked very spongey, the ride on mower was leaving pretty bad track marks behind, i wrekon it will get chopped up on Saturday.

Appointed a coach yet?

James McKenzie has taken in the coaching role as well as playing. Colin Hounsel will be his non playing assistant. Col is a massive pick up for the club, he played around 150 games for the Sydney Swans. Bring on round 1!!!!

Hows everyones number?

We have got 2 sides coming down on Saturday with the reserves being topped up by the thirds.

Its definately an underated value having a quality non playing assistant running the bench when the coach plays.
I had someone different every week last year which made it hard at times but fortunately this year ive got two older guys on the bench weekly to help out.

Our numbers are down this week , luckily we are playing Moranbah cos i think we would've struggled to field two sides, will be right after easter though.

Bakers ground is in the best condition around here, maybe abit damp if it keeps raining but alot better than ours and the Saints.

With the grounds being heavy this week , rnd 1 could all be close games im tippin.

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

Results from the weekends game:
Sea Eagles 8.6 def hawks 7.9
Saints 18.10 def Bulldogs 3.2
Tigers 13.7 def Swans 9.5

Great game of footy played at harrap park between the sea eagles and hawks. Swans seem to have dropped off a bit from last year with the saints the big improvers from last year.

It was a great result for us to get over the line in a close one, credit to the Hawks as they were probably the better side for 3 quarters but we hung in there then done what we had to in the last quarter to get over the line.

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

Lets hope so!

Yeah we were pretty ordinary against the Saints who will be up there this season, but a better effort against Bakers, although we still didnt win we were in a position to win, unlike the previous game, going into the last quarter.
To Bakers credit they wanted the ball more when it counted and came away with the bickies!

Whitsunday have got off to a good start considering half a dozen quality players have departed from your granny side last year. Thats the importance of having good depth.
Hopefully your team is off to the music bash in townsville next saturday and the swans might be a chance!

I had a look at your ground a few weeks ago and the grass was nearly standing taller then me, are you able to train on there yet?
The music festival is on Sunday so we should have a full list to tackle you blokes.

Our ground has been like a cow paddock lately as you would've noticed.
We've only been able to train on parts of it which hasnt been ideal but still no excuse.
Hopefully next week, pending the bloody weather, we will get back full access of the ground cos the boys are sick of doing lane handball drills!

Are you playing in the City v Country game tomorrow?

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

Howdy gents. Just asking for some info as to which is the more friendly club in Makay.

Moving up their in a 2/3 weeks for work and will be looking for a club to join. Someone suggested the Saints are a good bunch of blokes but wouldn't mind other opinions.

Cheers.

Whats your playing background and what type of work are you moving up for?
Im sure every club up here would welcome any new player, you would'nt be an onballer by any chance?
