Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

I know that we live in a Rugby dominated area but i am giving a massive thumbs down the the Mercury newspaper for not promoting the interleague game. It happens once every 4 years in Mackay and it is a chance to try and get AFL out there a little more. They have a massive day planned with over 200 auskick kids playing during the day, then the Masters game is on followed by the Interleague game and all they wrote was a little article about who was captain and a few words about 2 other players.:thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

Yeah i hear ya, i went and seen Penquin last week about the Mackay AFL couverage/promotion of the game in the Mercury is a disgrace especially when the AFL is trying to promote and grow the game up here.
We get 4 pages of Rugby crap and stuff all AFL, not even the Ladder weekly.

Another terrible article about the game on Saturday night, does this Charlie bloke even watch the game or just pick some names out of the record and write a bit about them?

Im pretty sure Charlie Payne never watches a home & away game, he calls the coaches sunday and asks them how the match went.
Nothing personal towards Charlie but you would think the Daily Mercury would have a young enthusiastic sports journo, Charlie seems a bit long in the tooth to me.

Dissappointing loss on Saturday night, lacked legg speed through the middle and a forward crumber.
Shame Nic O'rielly & Bondy were'nt available, they could've been the difference.
What did you think of the game?
Personally i wouldnt of played Stewy and big X in same forwardly line.
Rep footy is usually faster than a normal game and you need players that are flexible and not one dimentional.
Its easy to criticise after a loss but i did express these concerns once i was aware of the selected side and there were a few other surprise selections which you would probably agree with.

I dont blame the players that played or the Coach, its the selectors that need to be held accountable.

Yeah it was a dissapointing loss, they chopped us up through the middle with their speed thats for sure. If we had of had Nick O'Riely is we would have won the game for sure.
I thought X and Stewy worked out ok, i think they both kicked 1 goal but missed 8 between them also. If they kick them we win and you praise them.
Who else would have you had in and out from that side PH?
I think the step up caught a few players off guard, players like croz and haysey who usually dominate didnt get their hands on the pill.
Number 20 for them tore us apart in the middle, he kicked 4 goals and set up 4 as well. No tag was put on him so he dominated and it hurt us. He was Best on Ground for me, not their ruckman.

Agree that 20 for them had more impact than their ruckman and should've been tagged early, 20 was damaging at vital parts of the game.
Word is Croz went into the game with a broken finger(if so the coach being bakers coach woud've been aware of it) and it was evident concidering he wasnt confident marking over head.
I dont want to single blokes out but i was surprised of a few selections especially the onball bregade, i know some better players werent available but i thought there were a few from clubs that were available that should've got the nod ahead of some others, but thats footy.
1 thing though that would've noticed in the backline is that the bench was slow to react on match ups, when thommo went down and kirt Scown came on, Kirt was on some one half his height for far too long.
You could sense Haysey was down early so why not throw him half back where the ball will find him, same with Doodle. A few changes should of been made earlier, the bench should of sensed when Townsville had momentum and put Deano loose in defence or even big X.
There were a few key players selected that were'nt has fit as they were last season and it showed in the second half.
Its a shame more Whitsunday players were'nt keen.
Do you agree the team lacked some on field leadership, especially when the game was in the balance some one need to stand up and have an impact and maybe others would've followed?
Im no coaching expert just my opinion.

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

I only watched the second half but i thought the crows had enough off the footy just continuly turned the footy over at half forward. Nicko O'reilly would of made a huge difference, best player in the league when fit. Then when townsville went forward, they scored nearly every time. I would of tried Des Hayes at half forward and doodles one out of the goal square, he is quick and a good kick. Shifted Nick VonSchill up the ground through the middle, I walker to the half back line. I thought there was at least 6 players who were lucky to get a game. One young player who should of been playing was nabko stow from the hawks. He would of added pace and a touch of class across half forward.

Boase, Bondy and O'reilly injured TQ?

Good effort by you guys v Whitsunday last weekend, not to often Whitsunday are held to less than 20 goals.

Roos get nod to join AFL A-grade

Charlie Payne And Steele Taylor | 10th June 2010

THE Andergrove Kangaroos will enter AFL Mackay's A-grade competition next year.
A meeting of the AFL Mackay management committee, which includes the five-member board and the six existing clubs, voted 7-4 to admit the Roos to the 2011 A-grade premiership.
“We're very excited. We've been working towards this since the club's inception 10 years ago,” club president Paul Chatfield said.

It will be interesting to see how they go. I'm sure there going to be very busy getting some facilities up to scratch and trying to recruit some experienced footballers.

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

If any1 seen saints vs bakers on saturday, they wud have been treated 2 one of thebest games ths season. wud have been bakers best game in years. With big X gone to townsville bakers have played much better footy. josh murray kicked 4 and kane evans kicked 5. Penguin watched robbie vagg in the last half and he racked up over 25 possies and jaebyn drefke shut dwn timmy jenkins. the bakers boys tuned on a show and in 2weeks time wen they take on whitsundays at home it wudnt suprise me if they knock off the sea eagles. & i have to say only 1 50mtr penalty all game against bakers which wasnt due to undisciplinary reasons and 1 yellow card which a saints player was sent off aswell. hopefully bakers have made a turn for the good.

Watched andergrove juniors couple weeks ago and on the weekend and they did not have 1 junior side that had a full team, think the 15s pulled 8 players and the 18s had 15. they shudnt b alloud to have a senior side unless they can fill decent junior sides. wat a joke and i kno that most of the league agrees, just a joke
Next time you post can you use english, worst post i have read in a long time.

Ha...ha..spelling Nazis arrived, maybe Charlie Payne could give saroo a hand with his Grammar.
Terrible post but has a genuine Bakers Creek flavour to it.
At least he left his clothes on[horrible thought].
The creekers will self destruct in time, they always do....what is that saying about rotting from the head down?:p

I cant believe you havent been on here boasting about your big win, i hear it was a fairly firey affair with 2 reported from each side, still Fancy Whitsunday for the big one, the loss might do them the world of good.

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

Pretty unhappy to here from a Moronbah player that was up in Airlie Beach on the weekend that their players took a vote at training on Thursday night on whether or not they should come up to Airlie to play footy. 10 players voted yes which meant majority ruled that they would forfeit.
Give you the hot tip that when we travel up there at the end of the year they will wish they didnt piss in the sea Eagles faces like that!

I heard that they only had 13 players thursday night so they pulled the pin. Who knows. How are they going to go for the rest of the year? Hopefully they can get a side together. Have heard they have been hit hard with injuries. Not sure though. It wasn't the only forefit for the weekend with bakers creek reserves also forefiting. Interesting the the league exec think there are enough footballers in the area to support 5 senior teams in mackay plus 4 reserve teams.

Its going to be an interesting end to the season with the swans tigers and saints fighting it out for the last 2 spots in the top 4. Big game this weekend between the hawks and sea eagles, it should be a ripper at harrap park.

Won't go easy, its bullshit. All our boys are filthy and are looking forward to playing them at the end of the year.

Yeah we had 12 out against Bakers with names like O'Reily, Demmot, McKenzie, Hounsel, Whitton and Le Broqc all missing it makes the task pretty hard then to have 3 of our fringe players pull out on the day due to work we had to get 3 reserves players double up. Bakers could only beat what we put on the park and credit to them they won but it will be a much stronger Sea Eagles side come finals time.

We will get a few back for this weekends game against Hawks but will also lose a couple with 2 suspended from the Bakers game and a couple of new injuries.

Nice dig at the Swans from the Eagles writer in last weeks footy record re Swans players not hanging around for a drink.
There were half a dozen of us upstairs for a while and few downstairs but obviously not enough, i'll make sure more hang around next visit.

Buying a can then walking to the car and drinking it on the way home doesn't count as hanging around.

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

Well well, so it was a fluke by the Swans last year. Brad will have the Tigers fireing come the finals and won't be stopped.

Who can beat the yelow and black machine? Eagles can't match them in the hardness stakes, that's been proven. After the Eagles made idiots of themselves last year, the Tigers will more than fancy themselves in the GF.

Tigers for mine thanks.

I'll take a fluked premeirship any day, Bakers have to make it yet.

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

If all goes to plan Bakers will venture up to Airlie and cop a hiding and swans will beat mooranbah so swans will only 1 game behind bakers.

Are you saying you're still a chance to defend your title:eek:? That's a piss take, yer? Who cares if Airlie wins this week, it's all about making the finals, which you wont.

Only have to hope Airlie make the GF so then the Tigers will deal with there softness.

PS....do you honestly think you will make the finals, me think's not:cool:.
