Good bloke
I'm an AFL member for the first time this year - hoping someone can clear a couple of things up for me.

#1 We missed out on reserved tickets in the members section for the Essendon game (sold out) - how do we get a ticket now? - rock up on the day or is there another way of booking?

#2 In another thread a poster (Ezbian) wrote that you get a GFC number as well so you can sit in the club allocation of seats.

But talking to the club and AFL membership dept today this does not seem to be true.
GFC told me I only get a number if I have a reserved seat (?) and the AFL told me I don't get a number at all!

Any help would be appreciated - thanks!

Im also an AFL member for the first time this year LongBomb and have the same query as yourself.

I know that we cant just rock up on the day, every person attending that Essendon game has to have a reserved seat ticket to get in.

I dont have a seat booked for the Essendon game either and am hoping to be able to pay a booking fee for a seat with a fellow Geelong member at that game.

Surely if we have AFL membership with Geelong club support and all AFL members seats are sold out we will be entitled to book a seat as a Geelong member......

I'm also wondering what happens in the event of the GF ballot.
Will we be able to use our AFL member no. on this?

Im 99% sure that if we happen to have a ballot for GF tickets this year we are allowed to fo into the ballot for tickets as we did last year and if we are not successful we then have the slim chance to buy a ticket on the Tuesday as Silver AFL members if full AFL members dont buy the full allocation. (last year i think there was about 1000 tickets still available on Tues morning for silver AFL members)

>there was about 1000 tickets still available on Tues morning for silver AFL members

Is this true? I'm pretty sure the allocation was taken up by gold members and no tickets were available for silver members at all.

You could be right, im just going on what I heard from someone at the GF.

Just found out that AFL members section for Ess game is sold out.
We can buy tix on Lev1 as of now for $23 (usually $42 without membership) or wait until Fri 14th and buy seats on Lev3 for $5 (booking fee)

ahh, the bullshit of telstra dome is back for another season.

on a side note, i am considering becoming an afl member over gfc member. that joining fee is a big hit on the ole visa though.

can anyone confirm whether the club receives more money from afl membership than the gfc membership?

It's a disgrace, the AFL member section for that game has been sold out basically since the second day they went on sale (last week). Essendon games always sell out earlier as there is a smaller AFL allocation. It's a ridiculous and unacceptable situation. If there is such demand, the game should be moved to the MCG or more seats allocated to AFL members.

You only get one membership card, unless you also have a seat at Skilled (when you'll get a second card with your seat no on it). You are eligible to access either the silver (not reccomended) or club allocation for GF tickets. For all other finals, use your AFL membership - you're virtually guaranteed a seat and except for prelims you'll save a fortune (I think my semi tickets last year cost $12).

From what I understand the club still recieves the amount equal to a Home membership. You still recieve a Geelong membership pack and all benefits as well.

In previous years i have had a GFC 17 game membership and i think the club still only get the amount equal to a home membership from that and the remainder goes to the AFL so i think its six of one half a dozen of the other.....

Think your AFL number doubles as a Geelong number if you have Geelong as your club support.

Yeah - I think this might be the case. I guess I'll find out on thursday when I try and book a seat in the Geelong allocation.

I still don't quite understand why SS seat holders get a GFC number and others do not though.

AFL membership is great for watching other clubs (which I do a lot) too. I went to see over 30 games last year including Hawks/Crows final and Hawks/Roos elimination final (both great games). I also went to ANZAC day, the Carlton/Hawks mockbuster, etc. If you go every week it works out to something like $15 a game.

Yeah it seems like the way to go for sure, I figured that once I got the initial sign up fee out of the way it was only going to cost me around $40 more per year than my Geelong 17 game membership and i can go to 40 games in total plus first two weeks of finals in Vic. To good to refuse!!

Apologies on this one. I have a reserved seat so get a member number and card as well. Didn't even think that it was just for reserved seat holders.

Last year when a game went to reserve on demand at the TD and all of level 1 was exhausted you were able to pre book your level 3 seats. They were also the best level 3 seats right on the wing in the first few rows.

Only tips I have:

Closely read the handbook they send you. It has all the answers to all the questions you need. Their weekly member emails are also handy.

Essendon games always sell out in the first morning they go on sale. If you want level 1 for the Bombers you need to login at 9:00am.

Finally if you miss out on Level 1 or good seats at the G take out the pre game dining option. Meals are pretty good and not too expensive $25 - $30 for a couple of courses from memory. Taking this out always ensures you get the best seats and I haven't yet been to a game where the dining has been booked out. Not sure if they have sorted out where this will be for the TD because I think they are still negotiating but again this is a winner.

Just as a footnote a mate got us Bomber tickets, Saints tickets and Anzac Day tickets all on Level 1 and logged on Saturday morning. Grab them on the first morning and you don't miss out.

I also signed up for AFL Silver Membership with Geelong Club Support. Having done it yesterday should I be expecting something in the mail back from the AFL\Geelong in the next few days?

You should get your card and info booklet from the AFL by the end of the week and apparently your membership pack from Geelong with sticker, magnet, lanyard etc. will be mailed seperately.

I joined online last Friday and read somewhere that there was a 10 working day turnaround on recieving cards so I didnt expect anything for at least 2 weeks and then all of a sudden my AFL members card and info booklet arrived in the mail today.

For those who wanted to know the exact amount the club gets from AFL membership I think I read it's $119.

In terms of logging on do you mean logging on to the 'My AFL Account Manager' section or is there another ticketmaster section for members to purchase seats? Sorry I'm not used to purchasing footy tickets online.
