Now, I just watched Roo kick the winning goal in the St.Kilda game. They showed the replay and it was clearly touched by the Bulldogs player, yet was a goal. AFL needs to take advantage of technology (such as the third umpire in rubgy, in cricket, and in tennis) to make sure these mistakes don't occur so often. The same goes for Eagletons kick that was supposively touched on the line, but by the looks of the replay, wasn't.

Thoughts?

and the eagleton point, that was a goal, as it was touched OVER the line.
both clear as day, both affected the result of the game.

That was not the worst call, earlier in the game Eagleton kick one throw and said it was touched.

No third umpire should ever come into our game.

Why wait 5 minutes at that point of a game, it is simply part of our game, and each side lives with it.

As mentioned there was probably 3-4 incidents that couldve gone to a "TV umpire" tonight, meaning the game would have been held up for 15-20 minutes in total.

Not worth the time it would take to make a definitive decision, you just have to watch the NRL to know that, and still they get it wrong at times.

Yep, the camera BEHIND the goal post had a much better view than the goal umpire WHO WAS RIGHT THERE.

Idiot

Can't blame the umpires for not picking up that Riewoldt's goal was touched. A replay system would be ideal I guess. But I imagine it would be difficult to implement. Wouldn't it delay play too much? And it would definitely be very disruptive to the flow of the game.

The umpire was in the best position for both the Roo goal and the Eagleton point.

Don't really care what some twit on the internet reckons he saw on the TV coverage.

Seriously, eff off.

I'd hate it if they bought it in just watch a game of nrl on tv and even the callers complain about how long it takes just think how bad it is for the fans at the ground. I'm more than happy taking the good with the bad, instead of picking at every little thing and slowing down the game, honestly it is so boring waiting for the call and sometimes they still get it wrong so just live with it people.

Some of this technology wouldn't need 5 minutes to be decided upon.

Example, a camera that looks down upon the goal line to properly determine if the ball is touched or not. There's that problem fixed. (this technology is like in tennis where you can see if the ball hit the line or went out).

For ball touches, I'm not sure. But on the close up camera replay of that final Roo goal, it was so, so clear that the ball was touched by the Bulldogs hand. That replay would probably have been showed on the big screen to, directly after it occured. Not THAT timeworthy, and could have been corrected, thus effecting the outcome of the game.

But it was touched and shouldn't have been awarded a goal.

sid eon vision, showed the line, and the player was behind it.....

I've seen the same vision. The umpire was in the best position. How can you decide better than the goal umpire with a tv video which is not perfectly side on. You can't.

I always hear rugby league supporters complaining of it in their game. pretty much every try will go to 3rd umpire just to make sure. always takes ages for a decision to be made and slows the game down heaps. if the AFL bought it in this would probably be the case too. 3rd umpire only works in cricket IMO.

i feel so ripped off its not even funny, and some twat comes and says it interupts game play?

well that just cost the bulldogs a chance to win their first grand final in 55 years!!

you wouldnt know how much that game meant to us supporters after waiting 55 years, and your telling me it doesnt matter!!

It wasn't the umpiring that lost the bulldogs that game. A video umpire would signify the beginning of the end for the AFL.

Is it that hard, when it is so obvious from the camera footage, to change an umpires decision based on pure visual factual evidence (like that touch)? There's no way that would take long once implimented, and would make the game much more accurate, which it isn't at the moment.

People make mistakes, get over it.

Some decisions go your way... others don't,,,,

Bringing a "third umpire" into footy will never happen.

I wonder IF some punter takes the AFL to court for the bad decision making by their umpires, will they change their mind and use technology.

IT will happen one day, as this match was directly affected by it.

You didn't lose because of umpiring, you lost because you had the ball in your forward line for most of the last quarter and could only manage one goal.
