Anybody know anything about these guys, especially the "Big Grabaowski"? (surely to be nicknamed "the Dudester"?

Snoop Dog on the Drafts and Trading board watches a fair bit of junior footy, snatched this from his phantom:
Tom Hill / Northern Knights / 199cm / 82kg

One of the blokes who was touted as an 08 selection who obviously didn’t get taken and may have slipped a little this year. Obviously a big kid and he gets around the ground pretty well...........when he isn’t injured! And thats the knock on him, will clubs be convinced that he can stand the rigours of pre-season training and stay injury free. If he can he is a terrific prospect. Great size and good motor and still plenty of scope to fill out physically. Both his hand and foot skills are good and could play a variety of roles but most likely its a CHF where his pace and quick movement will get him into uncontested positions. I think he is even a chance to ruck at senior level and if he could add that to his bow he becomes a really exciting prospect.

John Rayner / Western Jets / 184 / 68

Another who was in the mix last year. Former runner who has devoted himself to footy. Obviously tested well at SS so could be one that gets looked at. I think there are some question marks over his foot skills but they are good enough for him to be a run with type player. His athletic credentials will stand him in good stead if he can play a good close checking role.

Joshua Grabowski - Likens himself to Milney. Never ever ever seen a draftee say that. I like the way he thinks. He looks like he could be one of those really annoying little shit taggers. Like Baker. But he doesn't have the endurance, and if you liken yourself to Milney, chances are you have NFI what defense means.

Maybe Bourky can give us more details?

Good lord. Could Port Adelaide have anyone else with them?

I really hope Polak gets selected by Richmond as a mature age rookie.

Interesting mix, a 'tweener big man, athletic runner type and small forward. Small forward doesn't surprise me with Tungatulum gone.

No Joe Dare on the list interestingly, or Cloke either. Any other names missing?

And Adelaide has no-one. Maybe the Crows recruiters are just planning to spy on Port.

Looks like Hawthorn's still in the hunt for a mature ruckman. I'd probably go with Putt over Skipper. Wonder where Pattison stood in their rankings

charlie mcadam is also missing from the list.

there is talk that the saints will redraft allen for a rookie spot (due to salary cap pressures) keep him on the LTI list.

not sure i understand that one.

ST KILDA
Pre-season selections: Nil
Rookie selections: 5 (20, 36, 49, 60, 69)
Locked in: Tommy Walsh - international
Needs: The Saints could focus on some mid-sized forwards, while further midfield depth also wouldn't hurt
In their sights: St Kilda has already secured young Irishman Walsh, a 195cm key forward regarded as one of the best recent Irish prospects. This leaves four live picks in the rookie draft, with Luke Thompson, Daniel Scott-Collings, Johnny Raynor, Tom Hill and Sean Tighe some of the youngsters linked with the club.

I'm not sure about drafting for immediate needs in a Rookie list.
If you are looking at older player ( ie C Jones ), yeah, but if you are looking at younger longer developing 18YO's then you are really drafting for needs in three or four years time.

:D - they have matthew panos from norwood who is bloody good as a sideline I hope he gets picked up. I am surprised that he didn't go in the draft as he was meant to be in the top 30(or top something. anyway he was meant to be drafted). Pity he didnt come to saint land.
here is a profile: www.selm.com.au/Site/Matthew_Panos.html

maybe a bit too tall for us?

If the Saints don't rate the current crop, I'd prefer them to look at guys who have some senior footy behind them - VFL, SANFL etc.

Don't mind the U/18s training with us though (to see first hand if they have the potential to develop quickly). Seems a waste of time to put guys on a list otherwise (as it is hard for them to prove themselves playing VFL reserves for one year).

Last year, Gaertner was thought to be a good chance of being picked up in the ND, ditto Simpkin, McGrath had come off a scholarship, Miles and Dawson were mature aged. Most of the speculative U/18 picks (were not mooted as ND prospects) that we've had have all come and gone.

The previous year we had Mini work out, and Chivers didn't.

squizz - do ya reckon this is the way that the drafts in future will go (with the cg and gws compromises)? ie will clubs be monitoring the vfl/sanfl/etc in a more robust manner than before and pick up blokes who were missed in previous years?

Tom Hill could be worth a look at if Misson gives the go-ahead. Already it seems that the GC is interested in getting mature age players ( Shirley, L Ablett , Harris ) on their list.

It's not out of the question that they would trade some of their picks next year.

No doubt the penny drops later for a few blokes, who realise that they can't just get through on talent alone. Or maybe the taller guys take a little longer to develop.

I was disappointed that we did not go for Nahas a while back, who was consistently well performed including 5 goals in a state game.

Seeing how we have gone with CJ, Miles, Mini, Dawson and even Attard you'd be mad not to scope the local leagues - remembering these guys may have been overlooked in strong draft years.

Why have them spend one year on the Saints list, when you can take your pick of guys who have had 2-3 years of senior footy elsewhere (and will have shown whether they are resilient to injury)?

also if they've been ovrlooked and then given a second chance I'd reckon they may try harder in regards of playing/training knowing that they're on their last chance to play afl.
