Big game against a quality side, we will need to lift as we haven't been great at home this year.

Back in the 8 for the first time in several weeks, a win this week would help keep us there and go a long way towards us playing finals.

We also have pressure for spots for the first time in a while due to having a lot of players back from injury. Gregson should presumably be ok after his week's rest and Menzel, Stokes, Horlin Smith and Gore are all playing well in the vfl so far.

Discuss the game and ins and outs here.

Think we have had some sustainable games in the midfield group previous to the last game we played against the swans, should bode well think we can get the job done in a close one

I know the club has signalled he'll remain in the VFL for several more weeks, but I really like the idea of Menzel playing in this game. Football is a tough game, he's had such a long road to get to this point, logic says to stay the course and remain pragmatic with the plan re: VFL. I understand that.

But footy is also an emotional game. A game without guarantees. I love the idea of Menz getting his recall in a home game blockbuster, and a double milestone blockbuster (SJ 250 and Sel 200). It would be a fitting small reward for the years of hard slog he's put in, because, for all intents and purposes, he looks ready for a recall anyway.

McVeigh killed us! Not sure we have a player in the Max Rooke, Varcoe role who can apply tackle pressure on opposition defensive mid players.
Has to really be an all round team defensive effort, they can't just zone off and run away from the play, have to hunt Sydney with a pack mentality for 4 quarters; whether they can do it or not is another story

Think I heard it mentioned on the coverage that it was already a sell out... hope so if true. Big game, night game, full house... sounds good to me

Disappointed I can't make it to this one. Would like to see us make amends for what I witnessed in Sydney in May.

Parker destroyed us last time, need to put a lot of work into him
"We don't worry too much about the opposition, we just try to play the game the way we want to play."

Who said that, Chris Scott?

Reckon we're in with a real chance. Despite their big win over the Crows yesterday, the Swans haven't been anywhere near their best for a few weeks, and Longmire said Franklin and Tippett both played through injury this week. One of them missing would be handy, but even if they both play you can assume neither will be at 100%.

We'll need all of Selwood, Duncan, Caddy and Guthrie to play well to match them in the middle but there have been some very promising signs from all of them in the past fortnight. Our backline is functioning really well at the moment and I'm confident we can restrict their scoring, it's just a matter of whether we can create enough chances at the other end.

Pleasingly, there's more competition for spots than there has been all season. You could justify any of Stokes, Rivers, Horlin-Smith, Gregson or Menzel returning, with Smedts, Lang and Cockatoo most in danger of omission.

according to VFL twitter feed GHS had 31 touches to 3qt. I like him in against a one paced Swans midfield. Rivers for Smedts Menz for Kersten (if only in my dreams) GHS in for cocky... esp if it is wet.

A win here with what potentially could be our best side of the year and we are hunting you, Hawthorn...
