Probably won’t find out if Stewart is any good for 3+ years given her frame and skill level and will probably be off the list by then.

I know I’m a broken record but no one will ever convince me in this AFLW competition selecting not ready bodies like; Blizard, Stewart and Gorman and needing to wait multiple years to get ready for little to no output at AFLW level is better for the team then having strong bodied SANFLW guns like Mel Anderson, Kiana Lee, Zoe Venning or Katelyn Rosenzweig who could be picked and ready to go right away.
Just more on this, very noticeable tonight that far too many (and this isn’t just a Crows issue) AFLW recruiters and list managers are far too busy trying to play mini-AFL recruiter with their AFLW role and simply do not grasp with a list of only 30 and having to cut players every year you simply can’t go trying to go full development player model and wait for multiple lighter framed ‘project’ players to develop over a 3-4 year period like you can in the men’s comp with 44 on the list.

North Melbourne the absolute best at having players ready to go on their list and look at how that’s helped them keep at a consistent level.

Kiana wouldn't survive in AFLW football, nor Venning.

Sometimes you just need to look past what they can’t do and see what they can do, they both know how to football and are better players then 18 year-olds right now. Kiana is still one of the most skillful players I’ve ever seen at any level by-far and Venning could find the football in the middle of the Indian Ocean - which is still better than only being able to touch it less then 5 times a game in my book.

I’d be ridiculously more confident in those 2 if there was injuries or if a spot opened up to being able to come in, play, contribute and actually help an AFLW team perform in 2026 and 2027 then having Gorman, Blizard and Stewart sitting there available who will take years upon years to be ready to play and contribute at AFLW level.

AFLW is not a child play crèche which our team management team treated it last night or a “she’ll be a very good a player in 5 years when she gets her body up to the level” visionary wannabe AFL men’s recruiter play-thing when the average time a player spends on an AFLW list is so short.

You talk about not being ready physically, Zoe Venning would weigh 45kg on a fat day.

As for Kiana, she would get chewed up and spat out mentally from an AFLW system.

Venning has played senior football against senior bodies for 5 years, and is a very fit individual, there’s a difference between hardened bodies and heavy bodies.

And shes gotten smaller physically in that time. She would get beaten up in the AFLW

There's also the fact that the SANFLW has slipped in recent seasons, its not the level that it was. I really like Kiana Lee as a footballer in particular and shes a lovely human, but shes got some issues with mental fragility that would get exposed.

I think everyone has project players but lists are pretty thin, you can't afford to have too many. It is hard to be an elite level football, it is just a lot harder if you are physically not ready for it.

I think we traded out all bar one player that wasn't at least a regular on the emergency list of games over the last couple of years. I think all of them can play and I think they will be good players for their new clubs. You just don't have three years to get on the park in a meaningful way, a lot of your development has to be done on the run.

There is definitely a type we have been recruiting since 2020, I think we are a bit thin in the key position department but it is hard to be critical atm.

I think there will eventually be a tipping point in the AFLW when everyone who is playing has elite level running ability and the variance is fairly small, like in the men's competition, you have to be almost Olympic level of speed to stand out. But atm there is a huge variance between the extreme ends of it in the AFLW and there is a significant advantage to be had if you focus in the good end of it. Carlton improved a lot in a short period of time by focusing more on it.

Here's what I'd be hoping our best 21 shapes up as after the draft

B Tonon - S. Allan
HB Newman - Biddell - Randall

R J. Allan - Marinoff - Egan
C N. Kelly - Bown - Jones

HF Rasheed - Ponter - Munyard
F Gould - G. Kelly

I Goodwin - Charlton - Waye - Tarlinton - Ewings*

*pending fitness

Emergencies
Kustermann
Mueller
McKee
Cronin
Boyle-Carr
Gorman
Blizard
Smith
Stewart

I would assume given we have drafted five that Leuzzi will not be retained, otherwise we have exceeded 30 players
* pending fitness - she has a looong way ahead of her. Lets see how she comes back from off season. I can't seriously see her playing meaningful minutes for us in 2026

She was always likely to be a long-term recovery prospect, but we obviously can't carry her on the list for years. I would like to see a significant improvement in fitness from her in 2026. If not, probably time to cut her loose.

Mueller, Smith, Tarlinton, Ewings and Leuzzi all with one year "contract extensions" to the end of 2026, which seems like a weird way to say they were out of contract and got renewed with the minimum length possible, but okay.

I've lost track of where our list sits currently. Did anyone miss out that we didn't already know about? I remember there was discussion here that Leuzzi might be delisted for lack of available spots, but apparently not.

not sure, but I thought I saw something about Mueller being traded. Obviously not!

Bit late putting it up on here but Ponter obviously very comfortable with where she’s at by extending until the end of 2027. I do find it weird they call it a 2-year extension when obviously she was signed for 2026.

With the loss of big names at the end of last season obviously any decent quality senior player signing on is important as they most likely have a transitional period under a new coach… even if I personally before the departures of Hatchard & Prowse would’ve used Ponter as trade bait.

That being said I do hope she puts in a decent effort over these next 2 years as no doubt she’s continuing on a pretty decent contract now Hatchard’s gone. Will be more than fine with the news if she can become more consistent with her decision making and transitions into a full time midfielder in 2026 & doesn’t clog up the forward line like she did over the last couple of seasons.

Great news that India Rasheed has signed on for a further 2 years until the end of 2027.

She has a very bright future

Very important signing. She is one of our brightest young players, and we'll need the likes of her and Bown to stick at the Crows despite not being Crows-aligned prior to being drafted.

It's only a one-year extension, since she was already signed until the end of 2026. But still, great signing, and quotes like the following are promising.

“Ever since I walked in the doors here at the Crows I have been blown away by how welcoming everyone’s been and I love being a part of this team,” Rasheed said.

“This is a special group; there’s a great feeling between us and we’re keen to get down to hard work together and strive for team success.

“I loved my first AFLW season and learnt so much and now I’m looking forward to building on that into the future.”

Again the club with that ridiculous 2-year extension wording 🙄.

Had come around & became pretty confident Rasheed would at least hang around for a few years since the early part of last season, where’s it would’ve been a real lowish chance of happening at the time of drafting.

Maddi Newman comes across (at least from socials) as the leader of their version of the ‘rat pack’ in the club and really looks to have made a concerted effort to bring Rasheed into the fold & make a strong connection.

Hopefully Ryan Davis plays her in a more prominent role rather than leaving her to wilt on the half forward line and develop bad habits and she doesn’t waste her talent like Jones & Ponter have been guilty of doing.

The club is continuing to trickle these out, with Newman the latest to extend until the end of 2027. At least this time they correctly identified it as a one-year extension since she was already signed up for 2026. Important signing anyway, she's one of our most important players.

One player given the offer she knocked back from Carlton previously that you don’t have to worry about due to her one-eyed Crow-ness.

On field you hope the decision to try to make her more inside as a player is abandoned by the new coach. One of the more puzzling decisions by player & coach to take away from their strengths as a player.

Firewalker - you do realise that your harsh words and in appropriate comments on the women’s bodies is totally unacceptable and horrible for a family member to read - imagine how a player would feel if the were to stumble across this.
You’re salty about SANFLW players not being picked up, that much is obvious.
If you’re such an expert, then why aren’t you a list manager for a club?

I read back several pages trying to find any inappropriate comments about any player's body by Firewalker and didn't find one. What are you talking about?

As for your second comment, you could ask the same question of practically every person on Bigfooty. We're all armchair experts here.
