Geelong are in for both...

They have some of the best drafting in the league

You disagreed about the club being in for both...
sure. miscommunication then. bottoming out is not good for an aflw team due to so few rusted on supporters so the Geelong style of staying up top with experience and strong bodies adding a few younger ones as you go even if you don't quite have the team to win the cup, than bottoming out every few years.

Can't compare us to destination clubs who benefit from free agency and then don't have to give equivalent compensation.
you're thinking like a man. and there's nothing wrong with that. but not when thinking about movement in the AFLW. They move for friends, girlfriends (or bfs - Lily), to get away from exes, because they don't like the team clique, because the GM is a sociopath, family allegiance to a club, same country of origin, because they don't want to play the position they are being forced to play (and I have in my head a number of specific examples for each of those), plus the usual - more gametime, winning team. once you are aware of that, you can play to your strengths and hopefully reduce your weaknesses when recruiting/trading. Ignore it and watch players just stream out the door

The AFLW is well and truly a different sport to AFLM . As mentioned by others many different reasons for movement between teams

It is only a part time job so it not suitable for many to move interstate due to family and other commitments

Sadly to make it a full time job would require more money , that is unlikely to come from TV revenue , attendance , or memberships for a very long time . And due to not easy to make it even competition the income is unlikely to increase quickly

The only solution is AFL pay the salaries taking money from the AFLM . This is not an easy solution due to costs not covered . So we can sit and support our team while they develop skills with the players we have , facing a period of time not playing finals or find another way to gain income , I not sure how .

I treat it as like watching my son play junior football , no expectations on bring champions. Just support the local team and see their development .

In the end it may be better for competition to not be Australia wide but that would also cost crowds and memberships from the WA teams

I hope someone has some great ideas

Not surprised with Stockwell, didn't have the agility for the level

Thought Ifould could've got another year but she was a longer shot to make it too

I think rookies just fit on the normal list so we have like 5 list spots now?

Hard not to see Stockwell as victim of Webb and Connell's seeming disinterest in forwards as a specialist AFLW position.

Hopefully Zanker (along with Brisbanes development) can shift the dial, but it's hard not to feel cynical at the possibllity we'll be looking at Hayley and Ange starting deep in round one for the second year in a row, for the same result.

Big weakness now, surely we are recruiting two small forwards (lightening quick please).

Stockwell is old style player with ability over athlete, should have kept her and got her fit

Was your comment "yet Geelong does it every year" about their AFLW team? Doesn't sound right to me. I've only seen that process in their men's team, which is why I responded with men's issues...

i see your confusion but it's about keep loading up with experience to stay up as much as possible. With 11 games in a season, there is hardly enough time to try the draftees, let alone build their experience quickly. You take the best available at your pick but you trade everyday for players like McCarthy and Zanker who instantly make you far better.

I do hope with Zanker arriving that one of Miller or Stannett can be released to the midfield. I know the team pretty much constantly ran with Strom / Newton / Bowers / McCarthy through there so most likely that will continue but I feel as a fifth option one of those would be handy. Ange in particular I felt was anonymous up forward a lot last year?

Agree with this, but would like to recognise Kaufmann's contribution in the midfield rotation. Not outstanding, but solid

AFLW Draft Preview: Fremantle

Team Preview
Rookie Me Central
FREMANTLE secured its main target over the off-season in Eden Zanker to provide some extra height and continuity up forward given the injury concerns of the past couple of seasons in that region. The Dockers had a number of retirements over the off-season, and will look to add a trio of young talents at the draft.

2025 RECORD: 11th (H&A) | 6-6 | 80.9% | Eliminated: Regular Season
2025 PICKS: 35, 40, 45
FUTURE PICKS: ’26 R1 (Fremantle), ’26 R3 (Gold Coast), ’26 R4 (Melbourne), ’26 R4 (North Melbourne)

LIST CHANGES:
IN

Lily Johnson (trade, Melbourne), Eden Zanker (trade, Melbourne), Aoife Healy (other sport rookie)
OUT
Philipa Seth (retired), Joanne Cregg (retired), Amy Mulholland (retired), Ebony Antonio (retired), Gabrielle Biedenweg-Webster (delisted), Holly Ifould (delisted), Poppy Stockwell (delisted), Dana East (trade, Richmond)
At the point of publication, the Dockers only have one available list spot, which means Fremantle will likely have to clear up a couple of spots in order to pick players with its three remaining selections. They all come relatively close together – within 11 selections of each other – and therefore can get a good idea at their first pick how the Dockers are situated. The inclusion of Zanker gives them the readymade talent, with Lily Johnson a talented young player too, while four retirements shows a changing of the guard.

FIRST PICK:
Pick 35
There is a chance the Dockers just look local for their selections given there will be a number of West Australian prospects in the mix through the middle part of the draft. Like most teams, Fremantle has opted for athletic players with upside in recent times, so expect that to continue. The Dockers have the likes of East Fremantle forward Alicia Blizard in that region, though whether or not the West Australian club goes for another athletic tall is uncertain.
Throughout the year coach Lisa Webb noted the importance of adding extra outside run to the team, so South Australian Lily Baxter or Vic Metro’s Asher Fearn-Wannan are a couple of options. The Dockers love the Eastern Ranges pathway, having picked up both Georgie Brisbane and Evie Parker last year, so Fearn-Wannan seems a perfect pick.
REMAINING CROP:
Picks 40, 45
If one of the others mentioned above was still there, they would be hard to deny. From other options, Mikaylah Antony and Mia Anderson can run and take the ball in transition. Gold Coast Suns Academy member Rhianna Ingram is in that same mould and might give the Suns something to think about if a bid came, while Oakleigh Chargers skipper Chloe Thorn‘s competitive appetite aligns with the Dockers current squad.
It is largely a game of wait-and-see for Fremantle fans, and might end up only two live selections depending on delistings. Isabelle Creaton and Ashleigh Thatcher are two more Ranges who fit the athletic need, while local hopes Maya Louvel-Finn, Ava Stewart and Ella Gilbey have developed impressively the last 12 months. Another West Australian tall defender Sienna Timmermans has shot up some draft boards too as a lockdown type as well.
KEY QUESTIONS:
– Does Fremantle’s Eastern Ranges connection continue in this year’s AFLW Draft?
– Will the Dockers look local for their selections?
– Is speed and upside on the agenda once more?
