It would have been nice to win but not overly fussed. Some comments FWIW (not much).

I really liked the look of Saad. He was fast, he hit targets and did his job defensively. Imagine what he'll be like when he plays the real version of the game where you can run more than 10m (that call was insanely early).

Tippa was his usual handsome, skillful self. He looks in ripping shape.

Langford was pretty decent but he still looks better as a forward than as a midfielder to me. Every time you hear the commentators rave about something he's done - he's always in the forward half. Maybe this will change but I'm not convinced.

McKernan nice and fit - will be good depth again this year. Was almost too involved in the game as we looked for him at so many opportunities but he didn't always do anything useful with it.

McKenna was a bit all over the shop. Had some great moments but then had some moments for the blooper reel. I am a believer. I do however think that half back is the role he should stick to for now. He is one guy you want to keep the game simple for. He's quite a strong looking unit now.

Zaka was his normal self.

McGrath looked good - I was a bit concerned with the impact to his hand but he looked OK afterwards so I'm going to assume it was fine.
His second efforts in contests are absolutely elite.

Begley was getting a nice old rap from Worsfold which pleases me greatly as I am a huge fan. Didn't do all that much in the actual game but who cares. I don't think he's ideally suited to this game like some of the others.

Josh Green ran around getting cheapies and not being overly impactful. His lack of athleticism and height didn't really help for AFLX but unfortunately its still a problem at AFL level as well.

Gleeson I don't think was all that well suited to AFLX. His go is really intercept marking and that's not really a thing in AFLX.

Went along, crowd was actually pretty into it and there were a lot more people than i thought.
Kids loved it, they had a section behind the goals for them so they got to compete for the footy after a goal.
Very nice feeling, you are sitting with all the players and officials so there is lots of photos etc.
Its not comparable watching it on TV now ive done both.
Some cool moments, i thought Melbourne looked really really slick. Was great to see Melk slotting shots through with ease.

We actually looked quite slow, players with hands on knees quite a lot. The running gamestyle did not work at all which is interesting as it was what people were expecting to do well.
Walla was great, hopefully set for a big year. Saad is a machine and i really liked this as a confidence builder for Mckernan.
Hawks again showed how good their skills were, again impressed with how they use it.

Was a fun night and a nice taste of footy for mid feb.
1 month to go.

I didn't get a chance to watch it tonight. I found out the scores way after the game and was pretty surprised to be honest.

Looks like we scored the least points on aggregate out of the 6 teams. What happened to our forwardline and our supposed quick side? Thought we'd suit this type of gamestyle.

On to the real not real thing I guess

AFLX is more suited to kick-and-mark footy, rather than run and carry. Kicking it is quicker to get it from one end to the other and each half is only 10 minutes, so time is of the essence. Running is also higher intensity and when you're playing an already stoppage-free type of game you need the breather afforded by your teammates marking the ball. Because it's such a short track it only takes 2-3 kicks most of the time, then you bomb it from 40, and regardless of the result the opposition kicks it out from goal and repeat.

Every time we moved ball the forward we just aimed for the super goal and missed i say we kicked the most points for the night out of all the teams

Thanks for the insight. Explains why a skilled kicking side like Hawthorn easily beat us.

I just knew that we were going to do that

Must say was frustrating to watch all it did was give the oposition a chance for an easy 6 point goal. reckon the guys where having too much fun trying to kick super goals at training haha

The forward line wasn't playing.

Its a shame none of the players or coaches have the balls to tell it like it is and flat out say its trash instead of sucking up to the AFL teet.

Brad Scott basically did that in his boundary interview with Slapper Brown, Slapper asked him his opinion and he was like dismissive of it without saying it was crap but at one point he said, I'm seeing things I don't want to see in the season proper.

In both games I saw we were better at winning the ball than the opposition. What was concerning was the amount of times we turned it over and how we didn't force as many turnovers. Then we would be behind and zooper goals were the only way back. We kicked badly from long range.

So my concerns are our kicking both out of defense and at goal. Zerret would eat this game up, as would Daniher marking on the lead and wheeling around. We would still be hamstrung by lack of elite pin point kicking from defenders.
