Zac Fisher: This is a game built for speedsters and should suit Fisher down to the ground. He has built himself up in the off-season and his explosive pace will be an asset. Another to watch will be Jarrod Pickett, who has taken it up a notch or two this year after showing impressive glimpses last season.

T20 is played on the same ground with the same number of players. All it has done is speed up the scoring rate because there is less time to bat so wickets in hand is less important. Fielding and short bowling restrictions has encouraged scoring from ball one. The game is fundamentally the same.

AFLX has changed the number of players and the shape and size of the playing arena. Time will tell if it is recognisable in the new format. Smacks of making the game 'suitable' for overseas grounds for the next stage of expansion into new markets.

Exactly. The fundamentals of cricket are the same. What’s been forced on the teams in the t20 format is drastic tactical changes. Aflx is just a different sport.

HOW IT’S PLAYED
Field: Rectangular playing pitch 100-120m long and 60-70m wide with 40m arcs at either end and goalposts.

Teams consist of 10 players, with seven on the field, three interchange and unlimited rotations.

RULES

— 2 x 10-minute halves with no time on

— Last touch out of bounds free kick

— 25m penalties, not 50m

— Backwards kicks are play on, except in forward 40m

— 10 points for goals kicked from outside 40m

— Kick-ins after every score

GAME NIGHT

— Six clubs at each round-robin “tournament” divided into two groups

— Teams play two games in group stage

— Winners of each group play off in grand final

Kick in after every score, turnover for last touched out of bounds and only 2 x 10m halves, so presumably they will try to limit stoppages to keep it fast paced and exciting. Is there even a need for a ruck?
