1 Win, 1 Draw and 3 losses.

I think we played average footy for the first 5 matches of the year. Most improved players are: French, Waite, Houlihan, Carrazzo. The least improved for the season so far are: Fevola, Davies, Lappin,Camporeale.

Thoughts?

i think campo, lappin and davies dont deserve to be on ur list ... davies shows glimpses of being an absolute star ... but he gets limited game time.

waite looks like an absolute gun tho! been rapped with his improvement :D

I forgave the North loss because it really looked like a case of Wiz cup hangover!
Was rapt when we beat Bombers, great comeback!!
But since then we have played below average footy, and Pagan seems to not try changing things when we are behind!!
Davies is a really smart kid, needs more game time.
Norman,Fev,Whitnall,Livingston need to pull their fingers out!!!
Has anyone noticed ,that what is really killing us is our defence, would havr to be worst going around!!!

agreed lukesta.

Barnaby, Stevens and Carrazzo have been good
Lance has been disappointing, espicially since he looked so sharp in the Wizard Cup, was hoping that he'd have a big 2005

The loss to Collingwood annoyed me the most.. we had the game won during the 3rd quarter, and then let them run over the top of us.
Most irritating thing is that Pies are hardly a side that you'd expect are good enough to have many 'come from behind' victories

What are you smoking, because I would love some

Livingston - pull his finger out ???

He was on top of Rocca in the 30 mins or so of football he played in the premiership season.

Do you watch him in the gym or at the pysio or recovery pool ???
Not responding well enough to treatment ???

Yeah livvo - pull your finger out & fix ya bloody ankle would ya !

Havent the knives come out with some so called supporters ?
I wonder if there actual members or just JD lemmings that listen to to much Mike Shehan & other football gods.
Perhaps the main board has convinced them as well.

Yes - Fev's actions this week were deplorable - this week, other than that his efforts when unable to be in the contest have been better than ever before.
His ability to create a contest or chase / tackle have been sensational this year.
Lance has spent time plugging holes down back un fortunately due to Livvo & Thornton being out & doing it with varied degrees of success.

Yeah - he was shocking against the bombers........

He stemmed the tide once moved onto Tredders last week, but I suppose you just looked at the stats & it didnt read well enough or gain you enough "dream team" points - hence your dissapointment.

Round 6 & almost every Carlton poster with under 50 posts wants to trade Fev, trade Whitnall, but you take the cake buddy.............

Livvo - "pull your finger out" -

How about Lukesta63 "OPEN YOUR EYES". - oh & buy a membership & go to a few games & see for yourself.

I didn't know I had to have a minimum no. of posts to be a bona fide supporter.
Been a supporter all my life and a paid up member as soon as I started working, and I'm tipping I'm twice your age!!!!
I also gave money to the club in 2003,not that it's any of your business!!!!!
Have never been a fan of Livo's sorry...and if you go back and read your post, you agree with me about Fev!
I'm not fickle ...just not one-eyed!!!
There you go,now go back and answer the original post!!!!

You sir are a tool if this is your way of thinking.

How long do you think he Carlton Footy Club has been around for compared to this internet football forum?

How long do you think I've been a member of the club?

Do not talk such shyt as the number of posts people have or the date they joined has absolutely no bearing on the value of contributions or worth of their comments.

it's a weird phenomena that BF posters believe that anyone with a low post count are dumb . where do they draw these conclusions from ? there is no reasonable logic to to the theory that higher post counts equates to higher football knowledge . would you dismiss Denis Pagan if he signed up on BF just because hew was a newbie ?
just take a look at some of the crap posted by posters with very high post counts.

It's only round 5. We have had a bad start, but you're being to hard on Fevola, I thought his chasing and tackling has been supberb, and although he hasn't been able to score the goals, he has still been trying. The only stuff-up was against Grover and it will cost him, but other than that his defenisve work has been good. It isn't his fault that the foward line is always so crowded and that delivery into the forward fifty has been pathetic.

As or Whitnall, I don't think he's been playing too well, but he has to play accountable footy in defense, because of Thornton (who's no longer out) and Livingston being injured. He should be better when Luke is back, allowing him to play at centre half forward.

Funnily enough, I was only thinking about this recently. Where do we really sit after 5 rounds.

Rd 1 - Kangaroos - Never really got into the contest, and never seemed to get out of first gear. Kangaroos played very good footy by "clogging up" our backline, thus reducing Fevolas and Whitnalls impact on the game.

The loss of Livingston hurt and in the second half was when Rocca and Thompson really took over. Would have been interesting if Livingston stayed on the ground.

Rd 2 - Essendon - Very very lucky to get out of this game with a win. Played terribly for 3 qtrs, however, Essendon really never told hold of the game. At 3qtr time, I thought that if we could get the first couple, then it could be interesting.

Rd 3 - Collingwood - Should have won. 4 goals up late in the 3rd qtr. Most disappointing result for the year.

Rd 4 - Port Adelaide - Great effort to get away with a draw. Our recent form has been terrible against Port, and, without our 2 key defenders, I thought things could have gotten very ugly.

Rd 5 - Fremantle - Did not see the game so I won't pass judgement. However, had we kicked accurately, it could have been a closer or different result. Like Port, we've received some canings from the Dockers in Perth in recent years, so we seem to be closing the gap.

Overall Analysis. Tough start to the year. Two road trips, a game against the Roos who always start seasons well and 2 games against our 2 arch rivals.

Lets not be too quick to write off the Blues. With the season being so even, i believe anyone can beat anyone on any given day. We are, remember, only half a game out of the 8.

I'm the first to admit I'm harsh on Fev,but only because he can be a superstar and his attitude at time really frustrates me!
All I ask of our team is 100% every week, and I don't care if we don't win!!
I just hate seeing Fev with his hands on hips and terrible body language!!
The season isn't lost,we just need some consistency of effort, that Collingwood game was ashocker.
The Hawks have come into form, and will be tough to beat!!!!

What I am refering to is the abundance of "new" Carlton posters that have jumped on board after a few losses - almost all of them stating that FEV & Whitnall have to go.
We have looked great this year when those two have been up & firing.
For reasons out of our control both or one have at times been forced to play outside of our prefered setup.
Due to our list having NO backup KPP players to cover Thornton & Livvo, & this has been the case since practically the start of round 1, we have been shuffling deck chairs on the titanic down back.
Kouta, & lance in particular.
Kouta with disasterous results, Lance breaking even at about 50/50.
When put forward Lance has been dangerous & won our only victory against Essendon almost off his own boot.
Had we pinched a 1 point win against Port, Lances commendable efforts against a rampaging Tredders (he destroyed Kouta) would have been a catalyst in the reasons why we won that game........... unfortunately it was not to be, but no fault of Lances there.

I look forward to see the return of Livvo (who as you put need's to pull his finger out ??? Is that based on his efforts this year ??? Because he was good in the Wiz & hasnt played a bloody game in the proper stuff yet, so I guess you go tme miffed there as well), as Livo's return will free up Lance and enable him & Fevola to work together in the forward line over a substancial period of time.

Fev, yes he does need to improve (& especially after his effort on Saturday), however you seem to imply he is back to his old ways.
This year he has added further dimensions to his game, his tackling & pressure put on other players when not in control of the ball has really come to the fore.
His performance against Freo was shameful (mostly the report), but that is one instance in what would be a frustrating year for his as he up to then hasnt stopped trying - ie. pulling his finger out.

You sir are a tool if this is your way of thinking.

*Yawn*, you took it totaly out of context.
But you put forward a good argument. :)

Anyway, looking forward to seeing Carlton have 2 wins against opposition we are expected to beat.
We will without Fev for some time, it gives us the opportunity to find other avenues to goal & almost ensures that Lance will be played in his preferred CHF or even out of the goal square.
Wouldnt be suprised to see Pagan use Lappin at FF in pinch hitting roles & the return of Eddie Betts.

Its the last throw of the dice if we are to be the 8th side this year, must win the next two & also snag some wins in the preceding rounds (Geelong, Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney) - must win 2 of those 4 at a minimum. :)

You make a lot more sense when you're not ranting ;)
I suppose I see Fev's poor body language occasionally,and I get flashbacks!!!
How do you see Kouta's performances so far this season?
Look,I just can't get to liking Livo's game sorry, for me he's just one of those players.
Looking forward to another joust!! :D

Joust ?

Kouta has been consistantly good to very good in patches this year - playing in the midfield he provides crucial grunt & ball winning ability, his subtle taps & shepards have been 1st class, his protection of others around the ball 1st class as well.
Its no suprise to see him leading clearances, he is top shelf as an inside midfielder.
He was exposed badly when put onto Pav, its strange because a few years back when he lost form, he regained it through some hard working efforts at CHB & also in tagging roles, before again moving successfully back onto the ball (after a pretty poor experiment at F.F.).

I have & was always a Livvo critic.
However his performances late last season on Nietz & Lloyd in particular were brilliant (relatively to his percieved ability - they were amazing).
He reportably did his first full pre-season this year & his performances in the Wiz not only reflected this, but carried on from his impressive late season form.
Lets not forget the sacrifice we made with this guy, taking also into account his past injuries, the committee took a massive gamble & great risk to show faith in Luke & retain him when in all honesty 99% of supporters probably couldnt stand the guy.
So to see him not only breaking even, but dominating his opponents & freeing up Thornton tp play CHB / HBF, gave optimism to many that this would be the year he broke through - and all signs were pointing to that being the case.
So I suppose when you say - he needs to pull his finger out ???
Mate he has, in a massive way, from absolute gimp / dud to proving himself as a servicable F.B.
Given that he played about 1/4 & bit, its strange you say "he needs to pull his finger out".

If Livvo does the full rehab, hopefully plays a game or 2 (if we can afford the luxury) in the Resi's & then come back to where he left off in the Wiz cup, Carlton will be an entirely different team & it changes our entire spine.

Sure we havent picked up many points just yet, but on the upside the 3 games we have lost we have been in the game and all results under 20 points.

To be honest we are performing how i thought we would.

Giving a reasonably honest account without starring.

We don't have a gun squad so i think some people are being a bit too critical of the team.

Have patience....

Performance Ratings:

Round 1 vs nth - Ran out of legs in third qtr but not too unhappy cos of nth's position now.

Round 2 vs ess - Should of lead from start to finish, but last quarter was sensational.

Round 3 vs coll - Very disappointing. no backline meant that if rocca and taz fired we would lose - that they did (2nd half)

Round 4 vs port - brave effort at our bogey ground. probably should have won in the end.

Round 5 vs freo - waisted opportunities. let pavlich and mcpharlin dominate in the air.

top 5 players:
1. Nick Stevens
2. Barnaby French
3. Jarrad Waite
4. Anthony Koutoufides
5. Andrew Carrazzo

5 disappointing players:
1. Justin Davies
2. Karl Norman
3. Lance Whitnall
4. Digby Morrell
5. Brendan Fevola
