I was not sure initially if Buckley would be the next best prospect as coach. Looking at how the lions didnt bother going "to market" and just signing Voss within 48 hours, i thought it was a bit naive.

I am now convinced, after reading "All i can Be" Buckley must be the next coach. The book highlights the man he is, his philosophies on life, how to work for what you want and more than anything he is best placed to teach other players whats required to stay and perform at the elite level.

More than ever i have realised just how much he is a "TEAM MAN", and how everything revolves around the team and keeping a vision, a vision for obtaining the ultimate success.

I believe behind the scenes Collingwood is preparing for a Buckley Administration!!!

He MUST be our next Coach!!!! GO BUCKS!!!!

As much as i would love Bucks to be our next coach i believe we would be derelict in our duty if we did what Brisbane did with Vossy. I would like to think Collingwood will do their due diligence and go through the process and then if Bucks is the Man then appoint him. For All we know there could be someone better out there.

What process are you referring to?? The process that the media write about and make the public believe is right? What the clubs do on the inside and what is in the papers are two completley different things most of the time. With the Brisbane situation, i should have elaborated on it further because Leigh went to the club over 12 months ago suggesting a sucession plan had to be put in place because he wasnt staying around long term anymore so the Lions did their homework. Their decision on Voss was made a year ago!

Irrespective of whether or not the process is only for the newspapers and the general publics benefit, the logic behind such a process is flawless.

Consider, the fact the there could be up to ten candiates ready for an AFL coaching position when Malthouse is ready to depart. Buckley may be the best, however it would be foolish and naive to believe that there can't be someone better (for example: Scott Burns), and to completely disregard all other options is ridiculous.

I hope that Bucks becomes coach one day. However if he isn't the best person for the job, I'd like to think that he'd be the first one to want the club to make the right decision, not the easy one, but the right one.

I began to believe he would make a great coach when I heard him talking on radio on a Thursday evening. He has the ability to explain everything so clearly that it's quite easy to understand. That's very rare, and not commonly found in someone who's a genius in his field; the truly gifted often fail to understand how and why the rest of us don't get it.

He's also excellent at dealing with fools and tossers who ring in. They respect him so much, and he's a great communicator. But when I read the and saw how his mind worked, I became convinced that we could never do better than Buckley as coach.

I thought the plan was for him to coach somewhere else then come back to Collingwood.

Whats he doing next year? More work with channel 7?

I'm half away through his book and I totally, totally agree with FadeAway. I was all for Bucks doing an assistant coaching role somewhere else first but if MM only lasts for 1 more year then I can't see why Bucks would pass up the opportunity after his media contract was up.

If you haven't had a chance to read his book then go and get it.

Robert Walls, Leigh Matthews, Tony Shaw, Mick Malthouse, Jack Cahilll... you really think a year next to John Worsfold would make him a better coach...

Spot on. If Buckley is so clearly the best person for the job, he'll destroy them in an interview process. Nothing to worry about. If he's not the best person for the job, why would you appoint him?

Anyway, if Bucks' book brought anything home to me, it was the lengths to which we were prepared to go to to improve our list. Clandestine meetings, bugged hotel rooms, phoney agents, it had the lot! I was very encouraged to hear that we'd left no stone unturned, it gave me a lot of faith, particularly in light of... say... the Ben Cousins decision where we copped a lot of flak for using a P.I. I thought it was a solid idea, and I still do, and I'm glad we placed such importance on it even back then.
