I can personally see the truth in the review. I really think the campaign's would be fairly crap. Going on Rebellion's previous next-gen games they have the exact same issues. Poor AI, crappy repetitive firefights and bland environments. Which is still highly disappointing.

The MP could go past that though, I can certainly see it being fairly fun regardless of the campaign (which is what the review is really solely based on). But will just that be worth $100? I personally doubt it.

In regards to the map, I'm not sure of the name, but you can see footage of it in some youtube vids.

Guess my fears could have very well been right.

Rebellion fail.

Rebellion's record since AVP1 has been deplorable. I wasn't too impressed with the demo, but that was such a small aspect of the game that I still held out hope. I was always going to wait until reviews started coming out because it is Rebellion, whereas I usually pre-order, so I'm not surprised, though still disappointed.

edit: After reading the review, I'm not completely convinced that it's going to be awful. That review was pretty ordinary, imo.

Not really. I've won a few FFAs as Marines. The Marine guns rape.

I admit the map and gametype got a bit boring, but I'd imagine in AvP the FFA gametype would be the most boring.

Yeah i remember that. And then there was the whole Tomb Raider thing too.

Then there are the ones we never hear about. If it's in the 100's it wouldn't surprise me.

Closing Comments
Aliens vs. Predator could have been a truly great game. It’s there, you can almost feel it, but it’s constantly ripped away from you because of some poor design decisions and a general lack of quality that keeps the game from having that triple-A feeling. It’s by no means a bad game and will almost certainly please fans more so than either movie effort, but when compared to other first-person shooter titles on the market, the difference is clear.

7.0 Presentation
Everything from the menu design to the look of the cutscenes isn’t up to par with the current crop of FPS games.

5.5 Graphics
Poor texture work, a bland color palette and a needlessly unstable framerate make this an unattractive package.

8.0 Sound
Despite some lacking voiceover work by all but Lance Henriksen, the rest of the universe comes through perfectly with just about every recognizable sound making an appearance.

7.5 Gameplay
There are certainly issues with the mechanics and the design is a bit ho-hum, but there’s fun to be had in every aspect of AVP if you can conquer the learning curve.

7.0 Lasting Appeal
The multiplayer could have boosted AVP quite a bit, but its lack of maps and expandability holds it back. Collectibles and three decent single-player campaigns help justify the sticker price.

Closing Comments
The three species set-up feels generous even at a time when people demand so much of their games, but it's a premise that dates back to Rebellion's first Aliens vs. Predator in 1994. While much has changed it still feels a little rusty – this isn't as slick as a Modern Warfare or Halo and its production values feel like they're from a different age, with poor textures and the occasional unimaginative set-piece belying the fact that underneath the HD dazzle is a core idea that's changed little in over 15 years. But that never truly detracts from how much fun is to be had throughout Aliens vs. Predator's myriad modes as Rebellion leans heavily on the source material, creating a game that's going to stoke the hearts of anyone who ever fell in love with the original films – which is likely anyone who's ever picked up a game pad.

8.5 Presentation
A slick front-end is befitting of an experience so indebted to cinema, and the whole show moves along smoothly.

7.5 Graphics
Easily AvP's weakest hand, what's on offer is little better than first generation offerings on console. It's ultimately saved by expert working of the assets, however.

9.0 Sound
Each iconic element of the films has been captured perfectly, from the burst of a Pulse Rifle to the click of the Predator, and it's backed by a soundtrack that pilfers the best from the movies.

8.0 Gameplay
It may feel dated but that doesn't stop it from being riotous fun as both the opportunity to play as these fabled beasts and the ensuing variety ensure it's never less than fun.

8.5 Lasting Appeal
It's a generous package whichever way you slice it, with three separate campaigns combining with multiplayer modes that are equally plentiful.

So far reviews have been extremely inconsistent with this game.

With scores ranging from 5.5 (GameSpot) to a high of 9.0 (OPM AU).

It sits at a 72 for PS3, 68 on XBOX 360 and a 78 on PC at Metacritic.

So where this game is quality wise seems to be up for contention.

Is looking very much to be a real love/hate sort of game.

The MP certainly seems decent enough and by playing the demo looks to be fun enough as well. But whether that and a possibly good/bad set of 3 campaigns is worth the price, who knows.

Will be interesting to hear opinions on here.

Yeah I played the demo a bit and whilst it's only multiplayer it's not that great. Playing as the alien is confusing and disorientating.

I've played a bit of this on a mates 360. Was pretty fun as the Predator if you're a fan of the movies. Haven't played enough to say what the story will be like though, pretty much just got through the tutorials and 1st mission of both the Predator and Alien.The Alien could take some getting used to when walking on walls/roof, and if you don't end up getting used to it, would become pretty frustrating I think.

From what I've seen I wouldn't buy it myself, especially with some of the other games just out or coming soon, but would be happy hiring it, or maybe get it later if it comes down to $30 or something. FWIW, I'm a pretty big fan of both the Predator and Aliens movies, but not so much AVP. The game though, I didn't really have any plans to buy it beforehand, unless it happened to great reviews, which I weren't expecting. Probably better than I expected, from the little I have seen.
