There are quite a few players bloody unlucky to miss that list. Rutten and Thompson are two. I thought despite how bad Richmond have been Joel Bowden would have been CHB, he failed to make the list. Tarkyn Lockyer has been clearly been Collingwoods best all season, but the team who finished 5th failed to get one payer in the squad. Yet they put a couple of players in like Brett Kirk and Nick Dal Santo who have not had that great a year. IMO shows a lot of the selections are based solely on reputations and players the panel like.

Replace NDS either Thompson, Goodwin or Lockyer and Hayden with Rutten and then the list looks more like it. Begs the question why bring out a list of 40... what a joke! Just do the AA team and that's all.

obviously they see Rutten, Glass, and Scarlet unable to play in any other possy than FB......:(

missing 3 games in the second half of the year wouldn't have helped his cause either

I think we may be able to vote for who we want in the AA team. Send a SMS with the name MACCA to ...etc:)

They changed to this system of nominating players in set positions to eliminate the habit of packing pockets and flanks with superfluous midfielders and key forwards and instead reward more players for their performance in their actual set positions.

As such we won't see a rehash of Matthew Pavlich picked at Fullback and a player like Brett Ebert might actually get rewarded for being the best forward pocket in the league in 2007 instead of being usurped by the sixth or seventh best midfielder, etc.

Maybe, but I have an inkling that Brett Harvey will get Brett Ebert's forward pocket, which is a joke. Harvey has played majority in the midfield this year.

The forwards that I think will be picked are:

Pavlich
Brown
Franklin
B. Johnson
Riewoldt
Harvey

No big surprise re Rutten (injury and too many others filling the same position having a better season than him), and Goodwin (inconsistant). Thommo is probably a surprise BUT he had a great first half of the season, but I think his second half has been ordinary with a couple of exceptions, and this would explain his exclusion. His clanger count would be up there and decision making has been not what we expect from someone with his experience.

statistically (goals against) i would have thought rutten would have been a certainty to be in the top 2 FB's picked

Statistically though, is not all there is to it. Often when Rutten's opponent is kept to a minimum, he (Rutten) has also received assistance (double teaming and another of our players cutting in front of him) or the supply to their forward line has been cut off. I am sure the umpires see all of that too.
