LeBron, Durant, Kobe, Dwight, Paul Comprise All-NBA First Team
May 24, 2012 2:23 PM EDT

LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard have been named to the All-NBA First Team.

Tony Parker, Kevin Love, Blake Griffin, Russell Westbrook and Andrew Bynum comprise the All-NBA Second Team.

Rajon Rondo, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler and Dirk Nowitzki received All-NBA Third Team honors.

There are 10 teams with representatives on the three teams, with the Wolves (Love) being the only non-playoff team. The Hawks, 76ers, Pacers, Bulls, Grizzlies, Nuggets and Jazz each made the playoffs without a representative. Chicago was tied for the best record in the NBA and did not have an All-NBA representative.

James received 118 out of a possible 120 first team votes, while Durant received 117 first team votes.

Wade finished four points behind Westbrook for the second guard position on the second team.

Bolds are all questionable IMO for the team that they are in. They have put Westbrook as a shooting guard to fit him in the second team. I guess thats how they also then fit Rondo into the 3rd team. Love and Griff on the same team? Griff should drop down to 3rd team. Melo should replace him in 2nd team.

Parker/Westbrook/CP3 are all so hard to split.

How is Dwight questionable? He is the best C in the league.

Griff is definitely questionable.

And Melooooooo is fine on the 3rd team. Doesn't deserve any better.

You prob right on Dwight - The only one that could possibly replace him is Bynum and he is not up to it.

Griff is a problem

Forget Melo is a Knick for a sec - he was unstoppable after all star break.

They don't pick by specific position. They pick like the All-Star game, a centre, two forwards and two guards. It's why you used to get Duncan and Garnett on the first team in the 00s, and Kidd and Payton in the late 90s.

I hate how they do that.

I hate how they do that.

Why?

Avoids situations where the best players in the league play the same spot. Otherwise, you'd have Durant as a second teamer every year LeBron is around, and one of KG and Duncan second teamer in those few years when they were clearly the two best forwards in the league.

it also leads to rorting. ie OKC would declare KD a power forward so he can get in.

I hate how they don't pick by position. KD or Lebron (i think Lebron) because they play the same position. Love had to be in the team because he had a great season and because he's a true power forward.

Happy with the teams this year.

Only changes I'd make are:
- Westbrook or Parker ahead of Kobe in the 1st team
- Melo ahead of Griffin in the 2nd team
- Aldridge instead of Nowitzki in the 3rd team

Not sure about Love. Two years in a row where he's got mega stats and his team sucks.

Rubio seemed to be the reason they were winning more.

I think thats always going to be a factor. Does he actually make his team that much better.

Are these teams voted by the coaches? Cos it usually ends up with staffers filling in the ballots.

And why should KD be punished for being a small forward? He's the second best player in the league, he deserves to be on the first team. Two forwards and two guards is the best way of doing it.

I had a quick look at the basic stats.

Durrant:
Points Per Game: 28
Rebounds per game: 8
Assists: 3.5
Turnovers: 3.8
Field goal percentage: 50%
3 Point percentage: 38%
Free throw percentage: 86%
Minutes: 39

Love:
Points Per Game: 26
Rebounds per game: 13.3
Assists: 2
Turnovers: 2.3
Field goal percentage: 45%
3 Point percentage: 37%
Free throw percentage: 82%
Minutes: 39

As you can see they are pretty similar apart from the rebounds, which Love dominates.

As for people who say Love does not have as much of an impact and a bad team record that’s unfair. He carries his team, without Love they would be worse than the Bobcats (at least when Rubio is not playing). Durrant has Westbrook, Harden and two solid defenders in Perkins and Ibaka plus a solid bench.

But overall I believe Love should be in the team because it’s the NBA All TEAM. It’s not the all-star game where the favorite players are chosen. It should be picked to play an actual game and hence a true power forward should be chosen, not two SF.

But anyway we can just wait and see what happens in the Olympics where Love will start and Durrant can warm the bench.

Everyone agrees this year it was Lebrone>>KD>>>>>>>daylight>>>>the rest, on that premise alone KD has to be in. If we're picking it for a game I'd play Lebrone at PF and KG at SF which would satisfy your criteria.

You also mention how terrible Minnie would be without Love. When Rubio went down they went to shit, I'm not sure Minnie would be much worse without Love. He is a bit of a liability on defence and if he was that good he would be able to drag a terrible team to at least the playoffs like all Superstars can. I have no doubt fundamentally he is one of the soundest in the league, but he is a statwhore, not a superstar
