All Round Arseclown Tim Wilson

There's a lot of commentary on here that doesn't make much sense.

I would imagine a party room with Tim Wilson in it would be more likely to support SSM than one without him.

If you are going to implement small government, you first have to qualify for the second word in that description. Wilson is, of course, free not to give the Department of Parliamentary Services his bank details and be an MP for free, a la Clive Palmer. Of course Palmer turns up to Parliament when he feels like it.

Oh dear Brandis can't be serious can he?

On Monday, Senator Brandis praised Mr Wilson's "passion and commitment".

"In just two years, Tim Wilson has single-handedly reshaped the human rights debate in Australia. He has restored balance to a debate which had previously been dominated by the priorities and prejudices of the left," he said in a statement.

"In carrying out his role as 'Freedom Commissioner' he reminded all Australians that freedom is the most fundamental human right of all.

Brandis is up with Scott Morrison in the contemptible piece of shit category.

Didn't exactly earn his QC badge either I recall.

And these two are in the Liberal's 'moderate' faction :drunk:

If only they were honest about their beliefs. I have no issue with the role of "freedom commissioner", or Wilson running for government, as long as he actually worked at the former and was honest about his beliefs in accepting the latter.

He does not believe in small government.

He was a liberal plant and is being rewarded with pre-selection.

Imagine if they gave the job to Sophie Mirabella? Next in line for promotion?
Alternatively a good idea that they won't consider is appoint a Disability Commissioner and not fill Tim's vacancy.

They gifted her a job on a government entity board somewhere (something to do with shipyards?). She's trying to be elected this year too.

Faces some stiff opposition unless he is being gifted selection.

Running for office on behalf of a party that doesn't think his love is equal to that of others.

Christ you talk some nonsense on that. As if opposing gay marriage involves cognitive dissonance. Its hardly like supporting 18c which as Wilson points out is a particularly grubby piece of legislation. Unlike gay marriage which involves circa 2% of the population, its an issue that affects ALL Australians.

'It's a sad day for human rights and free speech because what you see is the government backing down on proposals to replace a law that has a significant restriction on free speech that does not exist for any other group within the community. We do not have the same provisions on the basis of sexuality, on gender, on disability or religion or any other group within the community

You're ridiculous!

Comparing 18c to gay marriage, and saying gay marriage only involves "circa 2% of the population", whereas "18c affects ALL Australians"

Go and look up every single court case involving 18c... Now multiply it by 100.
How close are you to the number of same sex couples, alone, in Australia. Let alone the number of homosexuals in Australia.

Clueless.

"Affects ALL Australians"... :$

Obviously Wilson always had in mind politics and his appointment was pretty shady for that reason, but alongside throwing in the towel so soon despite the apparent importance of his role, do you think Turnbull would've personally fast-tracked him?

Zimmerman and Wilson coming into the party gives him some cover when everyone points at the 30 or so people who still want Abbott in charge and are panicked about gay marriage/safe schools/etc.

The problem with people like this clown is that they support 'free speech' in the extreme. In a wilson led world, we would be allowed to follow black people around calling them dirty lazy black campaigners just because he believes the right to 'free speech' is more important than the right of people to feel safe and accepted in society.

I'm no Wilson fan but that is an extreme characterisation. And inaccurate in my view.

I just find it quite 'interesting' that the campaigners who call for freedom of speech, ostensibly to vilify people of a different culture, outlook or 'persuasion', are often also the same 'libertarians' who demand everyone adhere to their social norms & expectations. eg M.E.

Again, they are bigots.

Looks like I have a new local member.

Former human rights commissioner Tim Wilson has gambled his $400,000 a year job to punt on a career in Canberra, and won pre-selection in the safe Liberal seat of Goldstein.

Mr Wilson beat Georgina Downer, the daughter of former foreign minister Alexander Downer, and local favourite, Denis Dragovic, during pre-selection in Melbourne on Saturday afternoon.

I assume he would then support the right of people to follow him around calling him exactly what he is as well.

It's only fair....
