I want to see an opposition player really get in his face and push him about.

I want to know whether he would push back or just take it.

This happened last year in the QB clash, Ben Sinclair was given a defensive forward tagging role on Watts and got right in his face even before the bounce. Ended up with 3 goals and a Rising Star nomination.

Just a question or two, do you guys have any other players on the list who can read the play and direct the defence or run it out? We don't really have any precision ball users in our back half aside from Reid but our loose man tactics usually work because Maxwell reads the play well and gets the ball moving quickly to our runners (if he doesn't randomly bomb it 50m forward).

I just think having Watts in the defence only works if he's being taught to defend first and play hard at the man. If not, it's really another case of Gibbs where his talents aren't being developed or utilised properly. IMO, he would look better on a wing or a high forward flank as an outside receiver where his defensive liabilities can be somewhat hidden and his strengths can be maximised. Blues have been doing this with Gibbs and although Bryce is still soft, he's probably harder than butter now and a much more damaging player.

I've heard that Jack's grandfather might have passed away on Friday but it was only on a supercoach forum. Has anyone else heard the same? Could go part way to explaining a lackluster performance on the weekend.

Not sure but was wearing two armbands apparently. If he was that taken aback I don't think he should have played. I don't think it's courageous when players go out and play when they are physically or emotionally unfit. I think it's foolish and short-sighted. They take a spot on the list when they know they aren't right.

Absolutely. Pity Mark Neeld can't see this.

“We need a few blokes to stand up, myself included, and get us going the right way.”

Good lad Jack, take some responsibility

Thx for the replies and the trolls staying out.

Really suprised how many are happy with him becoming a backman.

I would think a forward line of Dawes,Watts and Clark is all the talls needed with players like Howe,Sylvia etc playing more as smalls has potential to being a pretty potent forward line.
Would even have Clark only spending 70% playing time up forward and the other 30% as backup ruckman.

Jared Rivers reads the play excellently. Wait...

In all seriousness Watts struggles to negate an opponent, but his best features down back are his ball use and marking ability. Our defence on Sunday, that was missing McDonald who was a revelation last year and to a lesser extent Rivers, looked unorganised and shambolic. Gillies, Frawley and Garland all had shockers, neglected to help each other out and were all comfortably beaten by their respective opponents. We recruited ball users over the past few years but they can't seem to get on the park. Maybe we push Tapscott back as he looks lost up forward and give us a big of mongrol down back.

Not a good defender Jack and neither is Dunn.. When they are made accountable that cannot handle the one on one. We need guys who are smart in their body use.

Wattsy is best as a forward flaker come wingman. He reads the play well down back, but we need accountability all over the ground. Honeymoons over Jack, now stop chasing easy kicks.

Not sure about that mate. I was at the Punt Rd end and constantly saw/heard Watts yelling at Dunn to let him take the kick ins. Dunn just kept taking them himself and Watts was getting quite pissed off. He def gives a ****, and was letting it be known.
When Watts did take a kick in he hit a player on the 50m arc in the middle of the ground. I saw one of Dunns (15+?) kick ins marked by a Melbourne player, and that was because Jamar took an exceptional contested mark. Don't mind Watts taking the kick ins, especially on a quick one.

Lynden Dunn is a prick, not news. We were all shouting for Watts to take them, coach never once acted.

Soft on so many fronts -avoids body contact and also the desire to push his body to exhaustion. Just ambles along with little purpose, direction or spirit.

I have always stuck by him but watching him live tonight made me realise we badly stuffed up that pick, and it hurts especially as it was a superdraft

Seriously put him on the trade table at the end of the year, see what we get offered. If nothing it might make him work a little harder after he realises we are sick of his bullshit!

looks like a player to me who dominated on smaller/lesser players at junior level but now against players of similar/better caliber has been found out. has no work ethic and is lazy/soft. Needs a good kick up the backside and a month at casey. dont bring him back until he has played 4 good games.

Also need to decide if he is a key fwd or back and not a 3rd tall.

give it a little more time

The amount of times I have heard this line is bringing me to breaking point.

WATTS IS OUT OF TIME. MELBOURNE ARE OUT OF TIME. WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT IS. JUST SOMETHING FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

Right now Jack Watts isn't worth a cup full of cold water . Putting him on the trade table will only bring embarrassment to the MFC when its obvious that no other club in the league would be interested in a half arsed soft outrider , and that they wasted the NO.1 pick in a good draft on him . Sack the Bludger ,, then he might get the message.

There are plenty of coaches out there that would love the challenge of turning Jack into the star that he has promised to be....they are the ones we may get value from!

Don't want to troll. Was there tonight, and you tried that. Problem is he was getting hypothermia down there and when the ball did make it down he hadn't touched it in so long he was jittery and turned it over.
When did he turn it over though? Only that one time on the wing, and that was completely his team mates doing for not giving him an option. He's just short of 2m tall, is he meant to burn his man?

Belief in the whole club has eroded. I don't even know why he was subbed off, he was clearly not our worst.

I mean, he was ****ing shithouse, but there were 18 others who were too. The MFC is ****ed.
