Gavaskar was strictly an opener, don't think he ever batted at 3, he has the most runs of all time as an opener.

As you say, he's the best All-Rounder the game's seen, or very close to it (along with Sobers). I have batsmen at 3 and 4 that are very good bats and very good bowlers. Why would I give that up?
