Disappointing trade, paid far too high a price especially as Freo had stepped away from negotiations.

Vozzo absolutely owned by Wells. Bring back Rawlings, and tell Vozzo to explore other opportunities.

So happy we have Kelly!!
To all if those melting - how well are those picks gonna play in the finals next year, versus Kelly in the finals?

We now have the best centre square combo in the league with Nicnat, Shuey, Yeo and Kelly.

Huge chance for our 5th flag in the next 2 years.

TK is worth what we paid but we paid overs considering that usually the club getting the player pays unders.

That said we had to make this trade happen. Geelong through Scott's personality and other dealings with clubs past few years don't have the same reputation we have to keep. West Coast highly values attempting to be seen as a highly professional club.

West Coast were willing to protect their reputation by showing we would pay overs to get the trade done AND get it done early.
Otherwise we would look bad for showing a high level of interest in TK over 3 seasons but not be willing to get it done.
Geelong were well aware of this dynamic too and they took full advantage.

Even if the trade dragged through to the end but we got TK it would've looked bad, like we were haggling needlessly.
Let's realise that Geelong are far more willing to use the media than us - and they would have if this turned sour.

Yeah we paid overs - but we are in a flag window and we have now gained another gun mid who can play inside/outside/hf so may as well stay positive about it.
We have to wear the mistakes of last trading season in not making it happen (it was overs last year but we were aiming to go back to back).

Angry people need to also be aware that next years draft is heavily compromised, this years is nothing special as well.

Compromised doesn't mean worthless. If there a whole bunch of highly rated NGA/academy/FS kids in the first round then that moves everyone up a few spots in the rest of the draft.

14, 24, 37 is worth pick 2 points after discount, pick 3 without. Meaningless if you aren't bidding, but if a team has pick 5 and are just going to burn it on a pick 2/3 bid.... well you swap 24, 37 and a future first for pick 5 and then use it yourself. Meanwhile 24 and 37 get combined with the first team's 23 and they get their man. Then 5 minutes later you trade your future 1st back for pick 14.

OUT: 14, 24, 37 (~pick 2 worth of points)
IN: actual pick 5

The other team would have burned pick 5 and then used pick 23 in the draft. Instead they trade pick 5, burn a bunch of picks 23+ and then enter the draft at 14.

(this is just an example, but there will be opportunities to do this next year - which is why not pushing for Geelong's 2020 2nd round pick was a dumb move)

WCE players aged 25 or younger as of R1, 2020.‬

‪Backs: Barrass, Duggan, Cole, Nelson, Rotham, Watson, Edwards‬

‪Mids: Kelly, Sheed, Venables, Ainsworth, O’Neill, Foley‬

‪Forwards: Allen, Ryan, Petruccelle, Waterman, Brander, Cameron, Williams‬

Absolutely fuming we can’t get pick 33 into that group.‬ Fold it now.
