Interesting to see what happens with category B rookie spots this year. We haven't been able to nail one yet.

Watson’s the exception, but he had some exposed form at Claremont before we picked him.

I’m not sure we’ve been patient enough with some of the other guys. Adamson and Riach both showed enough to think they were worth persisting with longer, in my view.

Each new Freo coach gets closer to one of them being the first freo premiership coach.

Fingers crossed theres a few more rotations [emoji38]

Only if Freo ever win one. If they go for eternity without wining one then they are nether closer or further away from a premiership.

Can Rioli be placed on our Rookie List?

Would first require a delisting of some kind, then a re-rookie, and then of course if the suspension is longer than a year it's effectively a wasted spot (no more than Gorter or Burrows though amirite?). Pretty sure you cannot just simply move them straight to the rookie list from the main list.

I guess we will hear about our delistings tomorrow.

Not sure about that. We’ve reportedly put a contract offer to Achee but there’s no word as to whether he’s accepted it

It may be that a decision on delistings is pending his acceptance

Is Watson's contract only until the end of next season then?

It would have been nice to offer him a bit more security, especially after the year he's had on and off field. A happy Watson will be a good player for the club.

I am guessing it's because we will have more cap space for 2021, with a couple of planned retirements, and more room for better contract extensions.

Surely they take that sort of thing into consideration when writing up longer term contracts?
Its more likely they arent completely sold on Watson yet.

A little off topic I guess, but I watched some of the 2001 WAFL GF last night, and some of the names in that EP team rocked me right back to our earlier drafts. Jeremy Humm, Ryan Turnball, Kane Munro, Symmons, Dean Buszan etc. I don't remember what happened with Buszan - he had it all - an athletic beast.

Do think Adelaide and Port both offloaded their ruck division to have a fair crack at Grundy.
Would be great to see Grundy at the Crows but I can't see Eddie everywhere letting him go. I reckon he will bust a nut to try and keep him at the pies on long term deal.
Having both grundy and daniher lost as free agents for way unders to interstate teams would be so delicious .

The media meltdown would be as good as airfare prices going up during finals .

That's a joke. If that sort of thing become more common then they might as well do away with the draft altogether. The academy system is out of control, I would prefer that the whole thing was scrapped.
This NGA academys was just to appease the vic clubs having a big sook .

All they needed to do was just take the discount away from the academy picks . If green was bid on at pick 3 let the GWS pay full price . The fact they get access to him is the reward .

When players start costing 2 later 1st rounders then they start to seriously think about wanting to match or not .

I think Martin wants $ 700 K a year
Which we couldn’t afford..

I certainly hope we wouldn't want to pay that even if we could afford it. Way too much for him.

Hopefully Carlton pay him that much over a long term - might shake some of the good WA kids loose in the mid-term.

Riley O’Brien and Scott Lycett are the number 1 rucks at their respective clubs and have stayed. They got rid of Jacobs and Ryder respectively who are old and and expense they don’t need

Buszan used to dominate the WAFL around that period.

Ah Chee must be holding up the other delistings. If he walks we will probably keep Mallen.
I just don't see the point of holding him regardless, I think we know enough that Mallen isn't going to make it.
Even if our picks are rookie picks or late and speculative it's important to turn over the list.

That's a really good point. The NGA academies have just compounded the problem.

I hope Martin gets every penny and Carlton end up paying overs and tie up more of their salary cap.

Will help us to get Cripps in 2021.
With Kelly on board we don't have any spare cash for Cripps. Don't think we need him either, unless we trade out another good mid. Collingwood with Beams is a good example of the diminishing returns from having too many good mids. It also shows how you screw your list having so much salary cap tied up in the middle, they have to rely on Mason Cox as their key forward! :tearsofjoy:
