Now whilst I am not seriously suggesting this should occur now there is a possibility that we will need to consider this option in future. How would you blokes feel for instance if we were to amalgamate with the MFC and become the Melbourne Tigers with our mascot, colours and song. I for one would not be against it and imagine the side we would have. I fear that so many clubs in one market, standing against 1 town sides that are groomed by the AFL hierachy spells ultimate doom for us.

BTW I have always thought this option would be a good ploy for us even during more optimistic times.

It's hard to raise this issue when we are going well but from a practical perspective I think it will work for us. The Melbourne Tigers would ensure our Iconic status so long as Melbourne itself exists.

Why? Are we that broke are we?
Of course not....but the current generation of kids are not supporting the RFC in the numbers that they had in the past so that day may come sooner than you think.....and once again the club has needed to go begging in order to eradicate debt.

You are a moron......ridiculous thread.

Talk about overreaction.
Can't you read stupid, I'm looking at it from a business growth perspective in what will be a much more competitive marketplace....or is that too nuanced for you?

Can't you see you are an absolute idiot.

While there are business aspects to an AFL club these days more so than 20-30 years ago, it is still a footy club first and a business second and your idea is ridiculous.

An idiot, or more correctly the definition of insanity is undertaking the same action over and over and expecting a different (hopefully more positive) result. For 30 years this has been the RFC and it's brain dead supporters......false dawn after false dawn. The game is thoroughly rigged and the bias is aimed diametrically opposite to those delusional fantasies. So......we will still be having this conversation in 5 years time unless this paradigm is broken.

And for those thinking that 'free-agency' will be our saviour, well commit yourselves now. We will be pillaged when it comes into effect.

From Captain Blood 17 on another thread:

"JAK - i love this club as much as i love anything in life, and i still can't quite put into words the rage/numbness/disappointment etc i feel. I think of my two boys though who are 6 and 4 (still to have birthdays this year), at the moment they follow the Tigers because i do. At some stage, they will both make their own minds up on who to follow. I don't think i'm going to stop them regardless of the way it goes. If they stick fat, great, but if they say Pies or Hawks, how am i going to argue with them. No chance.
If any Tiger people read this, don't worry about me, worry about the two potentual supporters you will lose at some stage
"

This is exactly what I am talking about. My youngest sons play Footy and they as RFC supporters, are in the overwhelming minority.

Your quiet right there CB...'free agency' or its imminent arrival upon the footy world has put a sense of urgency in most struggling clubs...

I hope against hope we are not too late in our struggles to rebuild this once proud club so it can withstand any so called pillaging in any guise...

I'm a tad fearfull to be honest...
