fancy giving this kid the spot over a couple other of those really polished male singers ....

A J-Lo charity case that she was always going to abandon given a choice between him and a better singer that didn't get votes. The charity lasted a week.

Does anyone know the genre next week?

On the night or as a performer in general? Not my style at all. I guess I like what I like.

I see you like Phillip Phillips though. Has a bit of the Boss about him IMO, although I use the comparison very loosely with no hope he could ever get into that stratosphere.

Do you reckon the style subsconsciously drew you in?

On Phillip though, last week he seemed a little knobbish. This week I didn't think so at all.

Haven't seen any Bruce in him, but having said that, I haven't really looked. I will have a look out for it though. I like Phillip's voice and him as a musician also, definitely knows his stuff.

Jessica Sanchez sang the Dolly Parton penned weeper beautifully. Winner for me already.

Jermaine will have a recording career, a lot of people love that deep stuff.

Phil Philips is a refreshing standout.
Deandre's voice is crazy Terence Trent Darby-sh.

The whole 13 sang together really well. Enjoying this now more than last season.

The Asian fellow is a crackup and can sing.

Great stage props, best season by far.

Top 12 Performance night - song choice from the year of birth of the performer.

First of all Jermaine Jones (the bass singer) was let go because he had four outstanding warrants from the police and this disqualified him from AI. What a loser!

Tonight's Best to Worst (IMHO):

1. Joshua Ledet - When a man loves a woman - Outstanding performance. I felt he fudged the last bit "This is a man's world" but it was a small criticism as the overall performance was brilliant.

2. Hollie Cavanagh -The power of love (Celine Dion)- Much better performance from her tonight. The best power ballad of the night. Muffed the final note a bit was the only criticism.

3. Skylar Laine: - Love's Sneaking Up on You (Bonnie Raitt) - Probably could have gone bigger in her song choice but I thought she executed it beautifully. This girl can sing that is for sure and is probably the first decent country singer I have seen on the show in years. Even though the song wasn't the greatest the fact she sung it so well and made it so good means she deserves to be rated highly.

4. Phillip Phillips: - Hard to Handle (Otis Redding/Black Crowes) - rocked it out nicely and I thought he was playing it a bit safe tonight given he had surgery last week. I still enjoyed it.

5. Elise Testone: - Let's Stay Together (Al Green) - very sexy and earthy I really liked it. Might be too mature for the voting audience to really "get" though.

6. Colton Dixon: - Broken Heart (White Lion) - not a well known song but he did a very good version just the same.

7. Jessica Sanchez - Turn The beat around (Gloria Estefan) - I thought the judges criticism of her vibrato was wrong. I really liked this song at the time but when considering against the others for the night she wasn't the best tonight.

8. Deandre Brackensack: - Endless love (Lionel Ritchie) - He did an OK job but lacked conviction so it was very flat. But I am starting to see the kid can sing.

9. Erica Van Pelt: Heaven (Bryan Adams) - over sung it, did too much to the arrangement and the song suffered for it.

10. Shannan Magrane: - One Sweet Day (who cares) - There is something about this girl that just doesn't work for me. Maybe it was just again another bad song choice. Really awful song. Did I say that song sucked ass? I see her becoming the next big thing in Christian pop/rock and they can have her.

11. Heejun Hun: - Right here waiting (Richard marx) - another awful performance and I hope he gets cut if he makes it to the bottom two.

Bottom 2 could be Heejun and Shannan this week. If there is any justice Heejun will go but ratings drawer cards may get a few more weeks before they cannot justify keeping him anymore.

I wanted Jermaine to go, but that was a hell of a way to have it happen.

I'm still perplexed as to how he got added to the top 24 after not making it initially. Seemed like somebody pulled some strings to get him back in, and then he is removed like this.

The whole thing was very dodgy from woe to go I agree. Didn't deserve to be there IMHO so his exit is no big deal. But getting kicked out of AI like that is going to stick with him for a long time, so I feel sorry for him for that.

My Ratings

1. Joshua Ledet (when a man loves a woman) -
Outstanding, although i'd agree that he fluffed that last note, but it didn't matter, he'd already done the damage. Awesome.

2. Hollie Cavanough (Power of love) -
Very good also, tried a little too hard to belt the notes once or twice, but overall great.

3. Phillip Phillips (Hard to handle) -
I must say that last week as soon as i found out last week that the guys were doing Stevie, i thought Phillip will do Superstition, so i built it up in my head and i gotta say he disappointed me a little. But i thought he hit back real hard this week, especially after having surgery a couple of days before, he was real good.

4. Jessica Sanchez (Turn the beat around) -
I think the judges got stuck into her a bit because they know she's the best and are trying not to get carried away with her, i thought she was pretty brilliant again, maybe her timing was just a little off, but i thought she worked the stage and sang great. Hope she doesn't get Pia'd. Also too on Pia, remember last year when Pia sang ballad after ballad and the judges said you have to mix it up and do an uptempo song? Well of course that's the week she got eliminated. It's interesting that Jessica has made her mark with the ballad's, tries to change it up a bit, (i presume so the judges wouldn't say you can't keep doing ballads) only for the judges to turn around and say 'you should stick to what your good at, stick to ballads'. Very poor judging me thinks, the girl cant sing a ballad every week for 13 weeks or the will say what they said to Pia.

5. Elise Testone (Let's stay together) -
Hope she stays in, has a pretty cool voice and did well with this song. I'd like to see what else she does. Especially on say a Judges Choice episode. Very Solid.

6. Colton Dixon (Broken Heart) -
Is that well unknown that he could claim it as his own, and i thought he was very good, i think he will get the votes because they were very strong on the fact that it is unknow. throughout the series will get a lot of teen votes but cant see him making it right down to the end, because he is pretty one dimensional. But very good here.

7. Skylar Laine (Love's sneaking up on you) -
good but not great, at this stage, much prefer Lauren Alaina from last year as they are a similar act but i feel Lauren was more diverse, but she was very good last week with the Whitney number, so hopefully she will surprise.

8. Shannon Magrane (One Sweet Day) -
Think she has a way to go, but she was light years ahead of last week and i was stunned she would take on another huge song, after failing miserably last week, like most i was pleasantly surprised. Think she has a large scope for improvement, and i can see her sticking around for a bit, she's cute, has good personality and i think she will improve. Can see her being this years Stefano, everyone thought he was gone early, and ended up making top 7, about where i reckon she will go.

9. Erika Van Pelt (Heaven) -
Never been a huge fan and although she is winning me over i think she was very average this week, that thing they did with the timing backfired i reckon cause it was horribly out of time. Reckon she will get saved cause i dont reckon anyone will go this week.

10. Heejun Han (Right here waiting)
Had quite a lot of problems, but was ok in parts. Average over all though, which is a shame, cause i'm a fan.

11. Deandre Brackensick (Endless Love) -
So here's the thing, i have never been much of a wrap for Deandre, i thought his falsetto trick was pretty cool, but overall thought he was just average. Then last week i thought he was brilliant, had him in the top 3, really liked it and i thought, hey maybe he will surprise me. Well i thought this week it was disastrous. Destroyed that song. Shocking choice. might be lucky and here's why....

After the whole unexpected Jermaine thing, i dont think anyone will get eliminated, they plan for a 13 week season and i cant see them straying, they would know when the grand final is scheduled and if they eliminate another person this week, then they will have to save someone another week. So i think Erika or Deandre may get lucky.

And on the Jermaine thing, it does suck to go like that, but i am glad he is gone, shouldn't have been there in the first place.

I think the overall strandard was probably better than last week.

Haven't had time to sit down and dissect it all this year as I did last year.

Loved Elise last night. Love her voice and she did an awesome job. Probably the only one that captured my imagination both through song choice and interpretation. Not taking away from others that were note perfect most of the time.

Elise, Joshua and Hollie in no order, my top 3.
Heejun, Deandre and Shannan/Erika the ones at risk. I like Erika but Jimmy's tricks made the song off and she really didn't seem to feel it. Shannan should have gone with Jimmy's choice 'Don't Speak' as we would have heard more character, range and emotion in her voice.

Funny about your comment SoaG. I was going to post last night that Jessica had just been Pia'd. You are exactly right, awful judging with the mixed messages they sing, but aside from that she did a much better job than they gave her credit for.

results show - Shannan Magrane sent home.

She never really hit her straps from top 24 IMO. Needs a few more years of vocal coaching and a little life experience to round her out more and make her believable as a performer. Don't think she has the talent/x factor to be a superstar, but she could still be a good performer just the same.

Heejun dodged the bullet thanks to the popularity he has for his personality. Not the best singer in the comp by a long shot. By the way the cool Asian smart alec at Hollywood week has disappeared. Where is he or was it just a façade created by editing and coaching from the producers? The Heejun we see on stage now is the biggest dork ever.

Elise was bottom three which I suspected might happen because her performance was too "adult" for the voting audience to comprehend.

Erica bottom three which was deserved but she has up side to her that Shannan doesn't at this stage.

Joshua - league of his own this year

Hollie needs to loosen up a bit and sing something up beat. I dont know if she can

Heejun need to go.

Elise was really good last night. She's not that popular but I hope she goes far.

The rest were mediocre.

My favourite contestant of all time for so many reasons:D Her album is getting a lot of hype to. I think she's going to be the most successful out of last year's bunch(and rightfully so)

Actually, that's great. Plenty of well known songs, and a great deal of diversity in genre. Pop, rock, ballads, soul .... if they can't all find something to suit their voice in that catalogue, they shouldn't be there. Definitely an evening-upper.

After whitney houston week and last week's mediocre show(where most of them chose ballads), I was kinda hoping for something a bit more...today and modern but I hope you're right.

Of course there is enough slower songs for them all to choose but I'm hoping a few of them, Phillip, Colton, Erika, Elise for example, will go up tempo.

Say Goodbye to Hollywood
New York State of Mind
You May Be Right
Still Rock n Roll to Me
Tell Her About It
Just the way you are
Longest Time
Matter of Trust
Allen Town
Innocent Man
Anthony's Song
Big Shot
Honesty
My Life
Only The Good Die Young
Piano Man
She's Always a Woman
We Didn't Start the Fire
You're Only Human

If they cover songs mostly from that selection, I will be happy.

Someone with a good range should only tackle Say Goodbye To Hollywood. If you listen to him sing it back in the 70s, it's unbelievable how up and down he goes during the song.

Tell Her About It is a nice song that should get the crowd up and going, but again, huge range.

Big Shot would be kick ass, I run to that song, always pumps me up. Would love for someone to sing My Life too.

You've left out Miami 2017, that is a great song that builds, one of my favourites. Same with River of Dreams, that'd be good to see too if done properly.

She's Always a Woman is boring.

It's a shame they don't get longer, seeing someone tackle Goodnight Saigon would be ****ing epic. Same goes with Captain Jack.

One of the best songs I've ever heard.

And this is just all sorts of awesome fun.
