Yeah I didnt enjoy this week:thumbsd:...There were a few good performances but the rest were mediocre. Just a few comments about tonight

  • :thumbsu: to Steven for telling Heejun to take the comp more seriously. He's whole act is starting to get irritating.
  • Hollie is Pia all over again. Geez...loosen up!!! Sing a song thats a bit more fun
  • Jessica's sort of whistle note at the end of her performance was epic.
  • Colton and Phillip were also pretty good
  • Loving Elise more and more each week. She could turn into a dark horse if she keeps it up
Bottom 3 - Deandre, Hollie, Heejun

Deandre to go home.

I thought Hee Jun's performance was fun, vocally he isn't as good as a lot of the others, but I did enjoy the perfomance.

Thought Hollie did Honesty very well.

Song choices could have been better.

Colton was the best tonight, Elyse very good too.

Deandre should have done more with Only The Good Die Young, he made it too reggae, ironically how Joel originally wrote it.

1. Phillip - Movin' Out

Changed it up massively and owned it. Was initially worried that he avoided the yak-yak-yak-yak quirky bits as it is the fun bit of the song but then realised he was doing something equally impressive. This guy is a true artist.

2. Elise - Vienna

Was worried about her picking a lesser known song after being in the bottom 3 the past two weeks, even though she didn't deserve to be last week, but it suited her sultry, smoky voice. She nailed it.

3. Jessica - Everybody has a Dream

Flawless vocals when it comes to ballads. This year's Pia for sure. She really projects her voice and has a sweet sound.

4. Erica - New York State of Mind

Really challenged herself and I loved her interpretation. Loved it. Interchangeable with Jessica for 3rd spot IMO. Big change to the look too. Now that's commitment.

5. Colton - Piano Man

Not sure I like what he did with it, but given I gave Phillip credit for changing up his song, I can hardly hang Colton for doing the same. It was a decent vocal performance but did not blow me away.

6. Deandre - Only The Good Die Young

I like the song so that's a start. He moved away from the falsetto which was a welcome change. He didn't really project the vocals and looked a bit stiff as he attempted to move but I thought vocally he did a pretty decent job.

7. Joshua - She's Got a Way

Agree with J-Lo that he was disconnected from the song. I have to wonder why he chose it when he didn't know it. Surely he must have heard some other BJ songs? Again, vocally it was fine, but I for the first time got a sense of de-ja-vu of the oversinging Jacob Lusk kind.

8. Hollie - Honesty

She sang pretty well but it wasn't convincing. You could tell she didn't know the song. Seemed a little forced for me ... dawg.

9. Skylar - Shameless

Very dull first half of the song but she opened it up a bit after that and you could hear those pipes at work. It really wasn't her style though.

10. Hee Jun - My Life

Thought he stuffed it up at the beginning and was about to say he is gone, then he faked us all out and tried to rock out. Wow I thought, this guy is entertaining. But the more he sang the more out of tune he was until it ended up a complete train wreck.

God knows who will be bottom 3. Hee Jun will be one, but the others will most likely be someone who doesn't deserve to be there.

Time for Hee Jun to take his act off our screens and into the clubs however.

My take on the Top 10 performances:

1. Jessica Sanchez - Everybody has a Dream - turned in a nuanced and powerful performance onstage tonight. She is a great ballad singer that is for sure.

2. Colton Dixon - Piano Man - clever use of a key change at the end turned it into a power ballad. Broke the song down to its basic components and somehow made it seem new.

3. Elise Testone - Vienna - She was in full control of her performance from start to finish and her vocals were to die for. To good for this program.

4. Phillip Phillips - Moving out (Anthony's song) - I really dug the R&B stylings he brought to it. It was hard to split the top 4 tonight and even though he sung this very well I think vocally he is a one trick pony and the others were just slightly ahead of him.

5. Joshua Ledet - She’s Got a Way - sung it by the numbers but managed to lift it once the choir came out and gospeled it up for him. Did enough to survive.

6. Erika Van Pelt - New York State of Mind - Nice vocal overall but I felt her pitch wavered on those really long notes. Well sung though should survive this week.

7. Skylar Laine - Shameless - started off shakily and pitchy but brought it home in Skylar style. Not her best night but should survive this week.

8. Hollie Cavanagh - Honesty - A dangerous song to sing because if it is only slightly off it becomes a chore to listen too. Bad song choice for the young kid this week.

9. DeAndre Brackensick - Only the Good Die Young - I didn't think the song showcased his voice that well and it was just a light bit of fluff really.

10. Heejun Han - My Life - terrible singer why the hell is he here again? Hopefully he will go but his personality will probably save him again.

Bottom 3 - Deandre, Heejun, Erika

I actually disagree with Scotty, i thought it was the best week so far.

1. Jessica Sanchez - Everybody has a dream. - Absolutely outstanding tonight, in my opinion, her best of the series. Becoming more and more of a fan every week.

2. Colton Dixon - Piano Man - Thought he was brilliant too, nearly had him top, made me a believer tonight. That was a brilliant song for him, he was awesome.

3. Elise Testone - Vienna - When she finished i thought, well this will be the best of the week. Didnt think Jessica and Colton would blow it out like they did. Nevertheless, brilliant again by Elise, is probably my 3rd fave behind Jessica and Joshua, but i doubt she will consistently get the votes. Hope she hangs around for a while.

4. Phil Phillips - Moving Out - Thought he was really great as well, would have liked him to take the advice, might lose votes because people might think he's cocky about it, but that being said, i really like the kid. He's got a very cool sound.

5. Joshua Ledet - She's got a way - Not outstanding, but very good. Once again like Jessica last week, think he was a victim of the judges trying to bring the field back together when i think Joshua and Jessica are two clear standouts. Will be safe.

6. Erika Van Pelt - New York State Of Mind. - Was impressed this week, thought she sang really well. Solid.

7. Skylar Laine - Shameless - Not really my cuppa tea but she was good, think she will go a long way in the comp, big chance top 3 i reckon.

8. Hollie Cavanough - Honesty - A little all over the place but still alright. Think she is better than that. i think she tries a little hard sometimes though.

9. DeAndre Brackensick - Only the good die young - i was a little disappointed when i heard he was doing this song cause i was kinda hoping Phil would do it. Thought it was ok at the time, but when i look back on it, it just lacked the killer blow.

10. Heejun Han - My Life - I actually really enjoyed the performance tonight, i like him, his singing definitely wasn't outstanding but he was entertaining. i would have had him higher but i couldn't justify it as he didn't sing it great. Wasn't (and have never been) a fan of Steve Tylers comments, give the guy a break. i seriously stop listening when he talks, am tempted to fast forward. Very rarely does he say anything insightful. Randy is the best judge by the length of the flemington straight.

As i said i really liked the show tonight, think DeAndre will go home.

(I just realised that my list is the exact same as CF, you my friend are an outstanding judge :))

Erica was cut.

Heejun survives because of his comedic value but this is a singing contest and on that basis he deserved to go tonight (and last week too). God help us if he pulls a Scotty and wins it.

Erica didn't deserve to go but her style is too mature so it wont resonate with the young teeny bopper voters. The Brunette look just underscored that.

Nice to see Haley Reinhardt tonight I liked her new song. She is sex on a stick that girl.

Bullshit. Erika is better than HeeJun, better than Deandre, better than Skylar, more diverse than Hollie, at the very least.

I felt the judges thought she was going to struggle to go far since she had to get a wild card to get in, in the first place so wasn't someone that got votes. I'm absolutely floored at the way Randy delivered it so quickly though, as though she was never a chance despite singing well last night and having "one of the best voices in the competition" according to him.

She deserved to go further, but they know how shit American voters are so needed to save it for Jessica or Colton or someone like that, just in case.

Really peeved about this. Now we have to watch amateur comedy hour for another week. A travesty.

I agree ODN. It was grossly unfair that a light weight like Heejun or Deandre survived for a really talented performer such as Erika.

This is American idol for you.

Cant stand Heejun.....Im hoping this week he actually improves and work on vocals a bit more. There is always someone like Heejun that makes it every year unfortunately.

Next Week's theme is Personal idols. Its songs from their favourite artists. Good theme, very broad:thumbsu:

In the after show vid, Erika said to the judges 'you guys need to save that save for when they make a really crazy decision which they are going to.' The basically said, don't sell yourself short, this was crazy too. Erika was very mature, and classy about the whole thing.

Check out the bits from after the show went off air. Very interesting.

You guys get so worked up. Shit decisions are always bound to happen.
It's not a case of getting worked up. It's a discussion thread. If you like a singer or a decision, you say so. If you don't, you say so. Hardly sitting here shedding a tear.

Heejun knows he is not as good, and is deliberately trying to use his being funny without appearing to be trying to be funny routine to get votes and stay in.

I'm fascinated by the market Centrebet has framed, it goes...

Jessica @ $3
Hollie @ $4
Phillip @ $4.5
Colton @ $5
Skylar @ $9
Joshua @ $13
Erika @ $34
Deandre @ $51
Heejun @ $61

2 things of note,

Joshua @ $13 You have got to be kidding me? I thought this bloke was value at $13 before the top 13 started, and since then J'Lo has called one of his performances the best performance ever on AI, and 4 people have been eliminated, and he hasn't changed in price? He is clearly (and i think the judges agree) in the top two singers in the comp, and he is an absolute lock for the judges to use their save if he somehow gets voted out, and if they haven't already used it. UNBELIEVABLE value.

Hollie @ $4, look i am a fan of Hollie, and i think she shows great potential, but she has to be the worst odds of any kind of bet i have ever seen. SHE CAN NOT WIN. She only has one weapon in her armory and it will bore the public very quickly, and i know it may seem small, but the fact that she is a pommy, I think could lose her a few votes. Just a theory.

My market.

Jessica @ $2.50
Phillip @ $4.50
Colton @ $5
Joshua @ $5
Skylar @ $7
Hollie @ 14
Erika @ $51
Heejun @ 51
Deandre @ $101

anyway, andybody that likes to bet a few clams here and there, i would suggest backing Joshua, and maybe have a saver on Jessica.

Top 9 show.

1. Elise Testone - (Whole lotta love - Led Zepplin) - I am beginning to think this girl has real star power. She is the complete package where others are close but not quite there. Great performance sang wonderfully. Sexy as well, although I Laughed when she sung about "feeding you my love in inches"

2. Jessica Sanchez - (sweet dreams) - I have to put her high because it was probably the best vocal of the night even if the song choice was not that great. This girl is a singers singer.

3. Phillip Phillips - Jonny Lang song “Still Rainin” - I thought it was very solid and it felt like I was at a concert. He leaves you wanting more.

4. Joshua Ledet - Without You (Nielson) - risky song choice. he sung it pretty good with a lot of feeling but he missed a few notes and was using his runs to cover up some sloppy bits vocally. The punters loved it though.

5. Colton Dixon - Everything (Lifehouse) - chose a religious song which I was not enjoying at the start and though he was being a bit self indulgent. But by the end I thought he had done an OK job to pull it off. Still a bit self indulgent tonight.

______________________________________________________ I think above is the top 5 currently. Below this line will get voted off over the next 4 weeks.

6. Hollie Cavanagh - Jesus, Take the Wheel - really another dumb religious song but she sung it with conviction and her tone was good overall. The problem for Hollie is that at this moment Jessica is about 10% better than her and I don't think Hollie can make it up in this competition.

7. Skylar Laine - Gunpowder and Lead - the key to her success is consistency. But it is starting to show she lacks some of the polish and ability of the other singers. Still a solid performance from her as per usual.

8. Heejun - A Song for You - Probably the best I have seen him since the early rounds. Still is not top 5 material.

9. Deandre - Sometimes I Cry - this guy sounds like a 70's throw back and not in a good way. I think he will go this week.

Agree with CF pretty much. Will post more tomorrow as I was watching the footy tonight so only glossed over the show. Agree completely that Elise was number one. I loved her before but now that I know she can rock out that much ... oh my god. That was crazy good and oh so risky. Obviously decided to show it all now as she wasn't getting the votes. Great move.

:thumbsu: Agree but I did think he performed well this week. Im hoping either Hollie and Deandre leave next week

Elise was amazing this week. She has now become my favourite.

Next week is 80s week:thumbsu:

I gotta say, even though i am a big fan of Joshua, Elise and Phillip, and i like Hollie and Colton, dont mind Deandre and Skylar, but i reckon not since season 1 of Australian Idol (Guy Sebastian), has there been such a clear winner of this type of competition.

I think Jessica Sanchez is clearly the best, and i cannot possibly see her losing. I might be wrong, cause i know the fave's dont always win, but i think she has the public vote unlike Pia last year.
