Ok, so now we have it (Hawks perspective):

Hawthorn did not over-achieve in 2008. This is not possible. 2009 was simply an aberation and not vise-versa.

We had the most injuries and this is all that matters. We don't care what anyone says. It doesn't matter the calibre of players injured or anything like that.

Burgoyne is a better player than Crawford. Better in terms of their most recent seasons and over their careers.

There is no way in the world Franklin may have peaked. He will definitely kick atleast 114+ goals again.

Gibson is a gun and will make our defence better than it was in 2008. Lets not worry about the fact that most of us said he was worth a 3rd or 4th rounder at the trade table. He more than makes up for the loss of Croad in 2010.

Burgoyne's knees are fine regardless of what Port fans will have you believe. Williams has dodgy knees, we should know this because we are Hawks supporters so of course we know about our (ex) players.

The reasons given by Hawks fans for the teams demise in 09 are not just whiny excuses - despite them being a bunch of excuses. There is no way in the world that we will entertain the idea that we actually sucked.

Hawks 2010 have the most talent, most match winners, they have the mid-field, their forward line is the best, we don't need a dominent ruckman because we won in 2008 with spuds for rucks, Clarksons game plan hasn't been 'worked out' by the opposition.

Major betting agencies say we are a top 4 team so this proves it!

Rhan Hoopers problems/issues were resolved as soon as he was drafted to the Hawks and he is an absolute lock for round 1. He will also bring valuable experience to the squad both on and off the field.

Max Bailey was a massive loss and we label him a best 22 player when discussing our injuries despite him playing a total of 6 career games in 4 years. At the same time we love to poke fun at Essendon supporters if they ever suggest that Gumbleton could be part of their forward line in 2010 because lets face it the guy has only played 5 games in 3 years lol ahaha haha ha Gumby.

The only reason we lost to Essendon the first time is because Franklin only kicked 5, Williams is lazy and our entire team carried injuries into the game.

As of round 19, 2009 we rated Williams as our most creative forward and a big loss to our team but when he left us a few weeks later we have decided that he is washed up and should have retired years ago.

We will still beat Essendon 2 times in 2010 no matter how bad we are.

Quantity > quality! Having Riewoldt, Goddard, Hayes, Dal Santo, Fisher and Montanga out is not as big a loss as the 7 average players (collectively) that we had out.

Matthew Lloyd is another reason (not excuse) that we didn't make finals this season.

Yep, that just about sums it up: Hawks will definitely be top 4 in 2010 and will push for the flag.
TBH you right thats a good way to look at it in a glass half empty.

now i dont stand for the willo point i think he is a gun and could be one again but he dose have issues with the nees

hawks wont walk in and win it no way it will be tuff but its not out of the realms of possibility yet

to say players have peaked is just rediculus as a footy supporter i will never blive that at 21 you will play your best connsitant footy

now to say injuries had no part is ridiculous but you may have a point in us useing it as an exusses to much we were shit in 09 we hit the bottem we will improve

alaster clarkson isent a shit coach he will find more strings to his bow the cluster isent hawks be all or end all

at there best playing there best there a top 4 side we just need to find the playing grop and form to acheve it again

this is only my opinion

Im glad you took your Essendon cap off in this emotional spiel regarding Hawthorn 2010.

WTF? Are you serious? You have to be taking the piss don't you?

personally i'm one of those who put hawthorn's year last year purely down to injuries. they never had their best team on the park last year and as such were never able to play with the discipline that was the cornerstone of 2008

there's still a query over the defence, but there always has been. same with the rucks, but i'm of the belief that as long as your ruckman isn't a complete liability then it's not so bad

hawthorn's list has turned over a lot since 2008, so is perhaps something of an unknown quantity, but i find it hard to split geelong, st kilda and hawthorn at the top of the tree and i'm sure another serious contender out of adelaide, collingwood and the bulldogs will emerge as well

08: Franklin 113 goals, 75 goals
09: Franklin 67 goals, Roughead 51 goals

Laugh all you want. Stats are there for all to see, doesn't appear to have been any improvement for either of them in '09, in fact, they went into decline by the look of things wouldn't you agree?

Suck it up, Hawks over-achieved in '08.
Because clearly there's no correlation between a poor performing team and a lack of scoring opportunity.

Are you guys seriously this stupid?

Franklin had a shocking yr through poor preparation and niggling injuries and still kicked nearly 70 goals with terrible delivery all yr. When he is actually fit and injury free and our disposal is better which it will be next yr he will kick 100, the guy is a freak.

Past it's use by date.
