Thanks for your efforts during some poor years, but we cannot persevere with him anymore if serious about winning a 17th flag.

He:
- has terrible disposal
- makes the wrong decisions
- misses costly shots at goal
- slows the play down too often
- is slow himself

He was shocking in yesterdays practice match and don't give me any of the following:
- it was his first game back
- he gets plenty of the ball
- he finished top 6 in our B&F last year

We must now go with Mclean, Curnow, Ellard, Cachia and the obvious in Gibbs, Murph, Judd, Simmo in the middle.

He has balls and heart. That's why he get games. Every club has a sub-standard skilled player who gets games based on their attude.

Thought Lucas was worse than Carrots today.

I agree Carrazzo was shocking today but from the last two NAB cup practice games I have seen of Carlton, Curnow has had terrible foot disposal (very prone to kicking floaters). I guess if Carlton managed to keep him as an inside midfielder only it wouldn't be so bad but any time he is kicking it I wouldn't be feeling too safe.

I agree Lucas was very unimpressive and I am concerned he's not the player we were hoping he'd be

I have liked some signs of Curnow and is good back up as an inside mid if Mclean doesn't come good

Lost interest here.

Will this happen after every loss? Lucas not the player we thought he'd be? FMD..

Agree Z.

What a bunch of peanuts the lot of you.
ITS ONLY THE PRE-SEASON,
IT WAS ONLY A PRACTICE MATCH,
IT WAS CARROTS FIRST GAME BACK
LUCAS HAS MISSED HOW MUCH FOOTY THROUGH INJURY

You do your player assessments at seasons end, nobody wants to read this crap now.

It is the same assessment I had of Carrots at the end of last season, and the assessment is the same after another preseason.

But I keep forgetting about the magical switch that gets turned on just before Round 1 which is just 10 days away!

Still young, been injured and easeing his way back into it, apparently may not have been 100% yesterday.
Will deliver- keep the faith

As Carrots buddy for 2011 I feel it is my futy to address the points in the OP...
He:
- has terrible disposal
I'll admit he can be a bit iffy at times. Generally he's okay enough . Definitely not one of our better users of the ball though.
- makes the wrong decisions
As above.
- misses costly shots at goal
Yeah although ideally he wouldn't be taking too many shots at goal in the first place. Scored 4 goals 8 behinds last year following on from 12 goals 8 behinds the previous year.
- slows the play down too often
Meh...
- is slow himself
Not really. He's no Armfield but he's also no Mclean. He fast enough for the role he plays.
He was shocking in yesterdays practice match and don't give me any of the following:

I unfortuantely didn't watch the match yesterday but he didn't play any other competitive matches (besides Intra-Club) so he will obviously have been a bit rusty.

There's a spot for Carrazzo in there. A 500+ disposal a year tagger who shutsdown effectively is always useful in your team. He should no longer be one of our best players but there is a definite role for him.

I don't think you understand the purpose of Practice Matches. It isn't really about winning or playing your best football (although it is nice when it happens). It's about getting match fit and getting that extra run before the season.
h
You know exactly what you are going to get with Carrazzo (the poster before me just said it). His role is important, and one practice match isn't going to determine his spot in the team (this is no longer 2005-2006.)

Carrazzo (the player who i assume you are refering to) is one of the more versatile players on our list and gives greater flexibility to the side. He is able to rack up the touches, shut down opponents and win his own ball. The fact he can win his own ball is critical when some of our other midfielders struggle in this regards.
Take another look at 3rd quarter against the swans in the elimination final last year, while obviously Judd was the star, Carrazzo plays a pretty good quarter.
As for Lucas, yeah he's terrible, im sure if we delist him none o the other 17 clubs would show the remotest interest in picking him up. Lets all write him off after 8 games and in his second year, he only won our best first year player award last year.

I'm very critical of Andy Carrazzo myself sometimes but if you actually watched us play the last few seasons you would notice that he and Kade Simpson are our 2 most accountable midfielders. They will chase their man all over the ground whilst also providing a link with our defenders. Hopefully with Yarran, JR and Bower our half back line will carry the ball a bit further up the ground this season. Supremely fit player also (Carrots).

Wait for the real stuff before canning someone who is a Carlton Best & Fairest winner.

Ellard's kicking is 100 times worse and he is half the player Carazzo is funny suff.

Ellard's kicking is 100 times worse and he is half the player Carazzo is funny suff.

Your argument makes little sense. Neither is good enough to figure in a top 4 side and I am not sure most pundits would agree with your claim that Ellard is an inferior kick. Have you watched Ellard kick for goal? If Carlton wants to make up the numbers in the final 8, then lets retain them in our starting line, otherwise if we are serious about becoming a premiership threat, lets develop our youngsters like Lucas.

Carrots was very poor yesterday. He held on to the ball when in possession for way too long only to do the predictable and kick it long into contested play. By the time he decides to dispose of the ball, the opposition has already set up its zone. He cannot kick to advantage .

Lucas had a very poor game but his kicking is actually of a high standard.

Can we carry Curnow and Carrots to poor kicks in the one side? I doubt it.

Ellard's kicking is 100 times worse and he is half the player Carazzo is funny suff.
Ellard gets in and under packs and uses the pill by hand 100 times more than Carrots, he lays 100 times more tackles than Carrots, he smothers his man 100 more times......they have vastly different roles

Only 22 players from the list can get a game , they all cant play , some will have to miss out .
Collingwood last year came to the realization that medhurst , obree , lockyer , and fraser great servants that they had been couldnt take them to the next level .
The same will happen at Carlton starting this year , it must if we are to go to the next level .
Its nothing personel with the players that will be moved on , most have given thier best but it must happen .
Carrazzo is 28 this year , he will not improve as the team improves and so thier is no doubt that he must be one that makes way as we strive to go to another level .
There will be others too , there must be as we climb towards no. 17 !!!
