Has arrived. This bloke is going to be one hell of footballer. He has shown enough over the past month and a half to prove this. He stands out as a player who will always have a crack and hates losing, he also has the necessary foot skills to take his game to the next level. In a side with no clear stand out leader, he may emerge to be one.

Last month has been very good.

Class act and was the only one running in the 2nd half trying to create some bloody movement and play.

Yeah I've been impressed with Charles Atlas over the last month, especially with his committment and willingness to go hard for the footy... though I still get nervous seeing him line up for goal... hopefully now he can cement his spot as a flanker/wingman

I haven't been a Mackie fan - but over the past 4 weeks he has been pretty good. I need to see him go on with it before I will be convinced. His disposal has been better but up till now it has been suspect. I hope he can keep it up given he was a number 7 pick.

If he gets a regular spot for the remainder of the season he'll prove his worth - I just hope that they'll leave him in the side so he has the chance.

I think he's found his niche.

At 192cm, for all of this time we've tried to build up his body so he could become either a key forward or a bigger-type flanker.

It's only in this time of adversity that he's been tried in his current role on the wing and it has really highlighted his strengths. It seems so obvious now, but someone who is lightly built but who moves well, is a good reader of the play and who uses the ball well should be used further up the ground.

Good on him. Let's hope he works on a couple of aspects of his game and turns himself into an elite midfielder in the next 2-3 years.

I was waiting for this. Mackie can play...and in my opinion can use the ball better than 70 percent of team. If he gets dropped... I will go for Collingwood next year.

Why would anyone think of dropping him? Clearly our best yesterday and has been great the last few weeks - has found his niche. Has always had a good footy brain. If he matures a bit he could be leadership material, or is he too much of a party boy?

Would help his career alot if he didn't look like my brother...who is nearly 11 years old :o

You can't be serious ????!!!!

On another note, good for him, I've bagged him out all season to now start to show why he was a first round pick. Sure it has only taken 4 years, but at least he is improving.

He does need some work though, especially on his hard ball disposal, but he is getting in the right spot to get it. Look forward to Mackie making another step next year.

Needs to eat some pies in the off season, put some weight on kid.

About which part? Maybe I won't go for Collingwood next year...that remark was the result of way too many 9% bourbon cans. However I've always been a fan of Mackie...and I've been really impressed with his recent form. Unlike some of the people on this board...I never doubted he could play...although it is obvious he needs to stack on a bit of meat.

As for his disposal...he is probably one of the very few who has been okay the last few weeks. Of course he's prone to shanking the odd one...but has anyone seen our forward line lately?

I have seen he has ability but he was never going to make it as a forward it seemed. This led to many criticising him. But good on the kid who seems to have found a position on the ground that suits him. The wing seems to be his home now and this has just saved his football career. I agree he needs to bulk up more. Do we see another Grant Tanner in the making here?

Let's not go over the top due to one months good football in an ordinary side, but yes it looks like he has finally found his role with the club (in the nick of time) and hopefully he can go on with it. He was one of our rare bright spots today. Good on him.

Isn't it harder to play well in a side that's struggling than it is in it is to play well in a team that's going well?

sometimes an average game by a player can look good surrounded by below average performances.

You can't call Corey, Ablett and Enright below average performers, and Mackie was better than them on the weekend, but I guess it was only one match.

If he put on more weight wouldn't he get slower?

It is a complete myth that players that put on muscle get slower. In the 60's a study was done on Olympians. It was found Olympic lifters were the fastest athletes over 40 yards (faster than 100 m sprinters).

In saying that i'm not sure Makie is capable of putting on much more weight. He put on 10 kg when he had the knee injury and then lost half when he started running. He will never be a 100 + kg power forward. I don't think he will even get to Reiwalt size.

He should be moulded in the form of Adelaides Burton. Very lean but probably one of their stronger players, good overhead with massive engine. He is perfectly built for this role. Still needs his body to harden and will naturally put on 2-3 kg over time.
