Hats off to him. In my opinion it was his kicking (I think 2-3 goal scoring assists if I recall correctly) that gave Geelong the 4 points. Granted he shanked a couple tonight, but some off his penetrating kicks into 50 were phenomenal. Have never rated him amongst our best but i've liked him this season and tonight he completely won me over.

His kicking in the forward half was fantastic. We don't have many guys who can kick those long, flat & fast punts that forwards can mark easily just using body work. He has saved his career by becoming a back flanker but I want him free of a defensive role in the future.

His kick is like a laser.

Unfortunately lasers malfunction from time to time.

Was second best on for me tonight.

Yep. Anytime we are around the centre/hf line and get slowed down we should look for him as his delivery especially from a standing start is 2nd to none.

I think the most pleasing part of it was that it seemed the Swans were trying to put some work into Mackie and played a defensive forward on him, yet he was still able to make himself dangerous.

1 of my favourite players and he played extremely well. I really do like his kicks they are generally so well pin pointed that he can hit a target almost anywhere.

Not the first time that has been done.

Well when we get Hunt back next year we'll have to torps in the side. Along with Enright I reckon Mackie is one of the most underrated players in the game. Doesn't panic on most occasions and his kicks are just pearlers!

Always thought he's been underrated, so it's great that he's getting all this attention. He's been absolutely fantastic for us in crucial moments this year.

I never thought of him as underrated as i thought he got a bit of attention with good reason. He probably has 1 of the nicest kicks in the geelong side at the moment and very well may have the longest kick in the geelong side and wouldn't be far off the top when it comes to accuracy.

Love the boy.
Never ever ever said a bad word about him.
Always stands up in big games.

Just pure class for a backman.

Mackie going to Buddy was the difference against the Hawks.

I reckon he is a great player. Long athletic legs gives him good speed and like to use his height to go up for a grab on the run.

Super composed at the end there too, running down the clock. Had to laugh at Walls saying it was too early to milk the clock, with 29 minutes played! Hilarious.

His kicking last night was as good as anything I've seen in a while.

Is it always that consistent?

He has his off games but generally we can rely on him to be accurate and penetrating with his kicking. That is his best weapon aside from his ability to read the play.

He's oft been the subject of my ire, his kicking sometimes makes me want to tear my hair out and he takes fewer contested marks than Blake, but he was exceptional last night.

The kick to Moons in the third had that extra 5-10m carry that we just don't have without Hunt in the team.

I tend to agree his is a vital component of our backline, his run creates openings into the forward line where the opposition cannot flood back.

Though, I must admit that I don't think the coach agrees with any of the posts here. In my opinion he had one of the worst first halves he has played this year. Bomber gave him the riot act during one of the breaks. He had really poor accountability, his opponent went on to kick quite a few lazy goals because Mackie was too far behind the play.

His shanks are becoming serious. There was a few early on which cost us significantly. I would also add that his body work (I know he isn't all that big), in marking contests is also very shakey.

If he makes AA I would be highly surprised. His efficiency is not up to that standard. However, I do agree that we need him firing and running. Has a big engine and if he can kick long and straight he is damaging.

Just got to stop the shanks!

Why did Thommo get stuck in to him during one of the breaks? Was it because he missed that shot on goal when he was well clear and could kicked from 20-25 metres instead of 40+?

Tugga, believe it was also a couple of easy goals to his opponent too. He did miss the easy shot, but I believe the spray was for being unaccountable and butchering a few other kicks.

Seemed to come out after that and play a bit better. The long bomb to Moons in the square was the next qtr after his dressing down.
